OVERVIEW OF THE ADELAIDE HILLS REFEREES BRANCH

The Adelaide Hills Referees Branch is affiliated with the FFSA whose primary object is to provide refereeing services to the Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association. However AHRB referees may also be asked to officiate at other FFSA endorsed events including the boys and girls Junior Premier Leagues and the South Australian State and Country and Zone Championships.

Referees are paid for their services but must have completed the Level 4 and Level 5 Referees Course (see below for details). Referees must be at least 13 years of age and are allocated matches according to their level of experience and skills.

The training is conducted by the FFSA Referees' Development personnel and qualifications are recognised by Football Federation Australia. Once referees join the AHRB they attend training during the season to keep their skills up to date and are provided with at least one training assessment in the field.

BECOMING AN AHRB REFEREE

Where do I start?
It's not beyond you. Referees and Assistant Referees just like the players must undergo intensive training to reach the top in their profession. It has to start somewhere! And here is your starting point. South Australia Football Referees have the support of coaches, a recruitment & development officer and experienced referees to assist them to reach their goals.

Take the next step!
The career path for a referee starts with a level 5 introductory course, consisting of three 2 hour theory sessions followed by a short examination at a fourth session.

After that you then join the AHRB and complete the Level 4 course that focuses on the pracitical side of refereeing. The Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Assocition offers a 50% subsidy towards the cost of the Level 5 course provided that the applicant is nominated through an AHJSA member club and joins the AHRB on completion of the training.

Who can attend the courses?

Football is a game for EVERYONE. Men, women, boys and girls are all welcome to register and attend the introductory courses. The only restriction is that you must be at least 14 to become a member of one of the Branches.

Special arrangements can be made for groups wishing to undergo training, including Schools, Clubs or other organisations.
