Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (3) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Gold (3)

A scrappy game today with two fairly matched teams.  The strikers worked hard but lacked support from the midfield.  Both teams had times when they looked strong but unfortunately weren’t able to capitalise.

U12 Div 1

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (5) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (4)

The Warriors Under 12s matched up against Stirling (blue) at home for their penultimate game of the season. It was never going to easy, having lost to Stirling in earlier rounds, but they showed they were all up for the challenge.

The action started early with a flying shot from Stirling grabbed by goalie Barnaby. Sid Cotton and Max Davis were both key upfront, moving the ball with speed towards our goal, and were supplied continuously with solid passes from Mack Ollsen, who never disappoints in defence. Israel Maxwell, Oliver Boerth and Jett Warren ran in fearlessly to tackle every time, moving the ball away from danger and towards our strikers, and James Lunnon did some great running along the wing after poaching the ball. Will Limbert did several fantastic long passes to move the ball towards our half.

We got our first goal against Stirling (from Eddie), but unfortunately it was offside. Stirling soon had their first goal for the match, and Eddie Moylan nearly equalised before it was grabbed by the goalie. Stirling was unlucky by getting an own goal through pressure from Max Davis, but it was skills not luck that netted our second goal, which was supplied by Sid to Eddie and flew high to solidly land in the back of the net.

Barnaby had another cracking save, but Stirling managed to get one past to secure their third. Dom Silvestri later made a thrilling run to secure our third for the first half.

Both sides give it their all in the second half and both sides' defence were even more determined to minimise any chances at goal. Barnaby saved a few more shots, and we soon took the lead. Left footer Max was thrilled to pop one in on his right foot earning the much coveted prize of the golden snag, but Stirling later upped the ante with another goal.

With everyone on the sidelines now biting their nails, defender Morgan Burroughes nearly scored and Dom and Eddie came close again. Sid was denied two goals by the determined Stirling goalie, and one eventually made it in but was unfortunately offside. Troy Murray ran his legs off, tackling hard and offloaded to his team mates allowing us to move the ball well up the pitch time and time again. After a corner shot, midfielder James Lunnon secured our fifth goal, giving us the lead which we maintained to the end.

Woodside had many more opportunities to score, and the play was a fast paced and skillful from both sides making for an entertaining match for spectators. After a challenging stretch, the Warriors have continued to claw back the rest of the season. Their latest efforts against Stirling Blue did not disappoint. Great job everyone.

Torrens Valley Soccer Club (3) vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club (4)

A great day for soccer with a dry pitch and warm sunshine.

Torrens Valley have been improving slowly as the season progressed and the last time they met the Nairne Knights it was a narrow loss. The first half saw a quick break from the field and run into a goal, a set corner kick from Nairne and a penalty goal shot which went wide, but the Rams got a sneaky goal and converted their penalty goal to be 2-2 at the end of the first half.

The second half was a lot harder for both teams with a few lapses in defence from the Rams giving Nairne a chance to get two more goals. the Rams got another chance with a penalty goal and the converted efficiently. but even with the last period played in their goals the Nairne Knights held on for 4-3 win.

Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (7*) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (1)

7 seconds into the first half and Strathalbyn Strikers U14 Red scored their first goal of the match...this was to be the beginning of Strathalbyn's domination of Torrens Valley.

Outmatched in every way, Torrens Valley fought valiantly and credit to them for keeping their heads high throughout the game against the clearly stronger opponent.

7 seconds into the second half saw Strathalbyn scoring again from an explosive start.

Throughout the scoring Strathalbyn maintained a professional approach to their game with well timed passes and excellent positioning. The teamwork and combined passing was fantastic and a fine example of their development this season.

Final score:

Strathalbyn 17 - Torrens Valley 1

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (1) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (0)

It was a glorious morning for the last home game of the season, the sun was shining and both teams were ready for the tough challenge ahead. The game started off with both teams having good passages of play passing and moving the ball into each others attacking third, but each teams' defence held strong. The Woodside boys soon started to put more passes together and started to make the Stirling Districts players work for possession. With a number of clever passes and their speed the Woodside attackers were challenging their opponents, getting behind the defence and making opportunities in their opponents 18 yard box, but Districts held strong.

Then half way through the first half the Woodside Centre Forward split the defence and was one on one with the keeper, his first shot was pushed away by the keeper, at his second attempt the keeper managed to get his body in the way but the Centre Forward kept up the pressure finally running the ball over the line to take the lead. After this both teams lifted their intensity again, but the Woodside team, who have spent much of the season working on its passing and defensive game, were out to impress today. They were all committing themselves to be the first to the ball and, if their opponents had the ball, they would close them down quickly making it harder for Districts to make their passes. When they had the ball Woodside was combining well, looking to switch the ball and pass to a team mate in a better position, often beating players with a pass rather than trying to run it passed them.

The second half started off much like the first, with both teams trying to get the upper hand, and with Districts only down by a goal they knew it would not take much to get back into the game.
Districts were able to put pressure on the Woodside defence, especially from some well taken corners that had the Woodside keeper coming off his line to punch the ball away. At these times Districts looked dangerous as they had the taller players but Woodside held strong and cleared the ball out of the danger zone on numerous occasions.

With 10 minutes to go the Stirling winger was able to get behind the defence with a wonderful run, putting him one on one with the keeper, but his well placed shot to the near post was wonderfully saved by the Woodside keeper, saving what looked like a sure goal. Woodside also had one last chance to increase their lead when a well placed ball split the defence and the centre forward ran onto the ball for a one on one with the keeper, but a whistle was heard as the offside flag was raised and the opportunity lost.

The final whistle sounded and a jubilant Warriors team were the victors with their third win of the season.

Played at Hahndorf Soccer Club Pine Ave Hahndorf 17/8/19

Final Score – Stirling United 15 – Hahndorf Soccer Club 2

A bright, sunny and warm day greeted Stirling United to Hahndorf Soccer Clubs home ground at Pine Ave. Hahndorf started off well with Captain Alex Olsson winning the toss and selecting to run upfield to start and sending Stirling United into the first kick off for the match.

Within the first 2 minutes Stirling United showed they were here to play by scoring the first goal only to be pulled up short by the offside flag being raised by the linesman.

Hahndorf’s defensive team of Konrad Michael, Hayden Abrahams, Oakley Lockyer and Ryan Sickerdick were forced to work hard right from the get go and were backed up by the midfield team of Will Dimech, Cameron Norris, Damon Potts and Olsson.

Stirling United had several shots on goals and goalie Tom Boekel was under fire all day long producing many fantastic saves but Stirling United sometimes just proving too strong with their footwork and placement seeing the ball through to the back of the net.

Forward players Harry Coles and Shafiq Herriman managed to run the ball up the field after clearing kicks from Michael and Abrahams, but were unable to score as Stirling United’s defence closed in.

Stirling United kept pushing forward and finding players running into open ground passing the ball well to score more goals.

Toby Boekel came on to help the Hahndorf defence and along with Norris, Sickerdick and Lockyer they kept the pressure on the Stirling attack while both Abrahams and Michael were able to clear the ball back into Hahndorf’s half with clearing kicks on multiple occasions or passing to the forward players Harry Williams and Herriman who would continue to run the ball up the ground.

Kit Erhart-Bruce came on the field with fresh legs straight into the thick of the play defending and running the ball forward. Erhart-Bruce, Dimech, Olsson, Coles, Williams and Herriman never gave up in the mid field pushing back and forward helping the defence where needed and driving the ball forward into Hahndorf’s half but not able to score in the first half.

Norris managed to find himself in a position to have a shot on goal but it was stopped by the Stirling United keeper.

Tom Boekel was still under fire in the goals and quick reflexes saw him still manage to stop more than went through.

Toby Boekel was desperately trying to stop the forward push from Stirling working hard but giving away a penalty shot free kick in his efforts.

Herriman finally managed to score for Hahndorf after a breakaway push after some great defensive work by Hahndorf.

A second break away from Herriman saw him 3 on 1 in front of goals and with a great cross from Herriman to Williams saw Williams score Hahndorf’s second goal.

Hahndorf played well and never appeared o give up, but Stirling United were too strong in the end and ended up winning the match 15 – 2.

It was a great game by all players involved and kept the crowd cheering right to the end.

U16

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (7*) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (1)

It was perfect weather as the season comes one game closer to ending. The Woodside U16 boys played at home against Torrens Valley. Again Woodside had to start with 10 players but still managed to press forward and even scored an early goal. However, Torrens Valley fought back straight away and with a long ball over the top managed to control it and play it past the keeper into the net. Woodside started to play a bit better and string some passes together. Scoring from tight angles and having a few lucky balls fall their way. The Torrens Valley keeper was able to block a few shots but Woodside were quick on the crumbs to make sure of the goals. The second half was good for Woodside to put a few combinations together and were able to score a few more spectacular goals. The game finished with a win for Woodside, both teams put in a good effort. Hopefully Woodside can carry this winning momentum into next week's last game of the season clash with Stirling United.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (2) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (6)

Hahndorf celebrated its 40th year in style at Pine Avenue on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There were many supporters at the club, including the Hahndorf senior men’s team who helped cheer on the Under 16s as they clashed with Stirling United. The first half was a cracker with both sides getting plenty of ball and having a number of shots at goal. Hahndorf’s keeper James Bagley was kept busy with the advances of the Stirling United forwards and saved a number of attempts. Hahndorf’s forwards Jack Anderson, Will Bailye, Eddie Hardingham and Xavier Kell kept attacking until Anderson slotted a goal mid-way through the first half. Stirling equalised with an own goal from an unlucky header from Bailye and followed up with a 2nd late in the half. Hahndorf’s Jackson Doley, Angus Mason and Jamie Hamilton had plenty of the ball and Alex Montagu, together with Jack Eakins and David Nielsen stopped the advances of Stirling United. Eakins’ powerful kick kept Stirling’s keeper on his toes and at half time, the game was poised at 2-1 in Stirling’s favour. Hahndorf kicked down hill in the 2nd half and had their chances with Tully Probert strong in the midfield setting up Hahndorf’s attacking play. Hahndorf’s Josh Rayner and Jamie Hamilton were solid in defence and Jye Martin found the back of the net from an Eakins free kick. Stirling then dominated the rest of the half, kicking 4 goals including one from a penalty kick and walked away with a 6-2 win in what was an entertaining game played with good sportsmanship & great skills from both teams.
