Match report

This week’s fixture was bought forward to a 9am start seeing Woodside Red host Murray Bridge Blue.

With a number of gun midfielders and strikers unavailable for selection the coach had to shuffle the starting line up to accommodate.

Much to Axel’s delight he was allow to start up front and handed the goalkeeping honours to Scott who bravely donned the gloves for a day between the sticks.

The first 15 minutes of the game was very tight with both sides closing down the advancing attacks on both ends of the pitch.

Eventually Axel found the back of the net and chalked up 2 quick goals to open Woodside’s account for the morning. Murray Bridge railed and cut through the Warrior’s defense resulting in them pulling a goal back.

Fortunately the Warrior’s solid defense through Deagan and Nate held strong along with Finn who played central midfield soaked up the pressure as Murray Bridge tried to score the equalizer before half time.

The Warrior’s went into the half time break with the game very evenly poised at 2-1.

In the second half Jordan and Rojo continued to cause Murray Bridge’s midfield some major headaches with beautiful runs out of defense into our attacking half. Their ball movement and intercepts were pure class. Eventually the relentless pressure resulted in a perfectly timed cross from Jordan hit the waiting volleyed strike from Finn – arguably the team goal of the year to date. Samuel and Charlie moved the ball well throughout the game allowing Jordan to skate down the wing and score his first goal for the morning from a very wide angle. Murray Bridge were rattled and before long Axel repeated the same damage from the right wing closing his day with a hattrick.

Final score was 5-1.
