U12 Div 2

Hahndorf Soccer Club White (0) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (6)

Today was the under 12 derby for Hahndorf.  The sun was out and both teams were excited to play. Reilly Bowden took on gaolkeeper in the first half and pulled off some spectacular saves.  Will Whiting, Oliver Dahmke, Charlie Harvey and Matthew Knight set up in the defence and worked well together to shut down the Hahndorf Black forwards. Julian Hack, Lucas Leske, Griffin Turnbull and Logan Maxwell pushed hard in the midfield and worked the ball to the foward combination of Joshua Verryt and Max Oliver. Unfortunately Hahndorf under 12 white came off in the first half five goals down, but that didnt dampen their spirits and the team came out with renewed energy.  Matthew Knight took on the goalkeeper role and fearlessly shut down many attempts on goals. The rest of the team kept their position with the expection of Bowden who positioned in the midflied and Zoe York who took over from Maxwell.

Despite our loss, the team continues to work together and extend themsleves. We look forweard to next weeks game.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (6*) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club White (0)

Today saw the hahdorf derby between it's two under 12 teams played in perfect winter conditions at pine avenue. Both teams played hard and ran all day. Hahndorf Black played with energy and had a strong game, and came out on top this time.

All players from the Hahndorf Black team contributed well, with each player having close to their best game of the season. Esther and Ivy tackled strongly, and competed fearlessly for the ball in defense, as did Ryan and Angus, with Angus playing his best game of the season, and Gracie also had a great game with lots of clearances. Courageous help from Chris during the first half was a pleasure to watch. Ryan was a good team player today, moving up and back from defence to attack, when asked, and scoring a goal.

Tom had a strong game together with Jacob in goals, each player saving some very difficult shots, and Tom also had a run in centre mid, which he did with energy, and contributed with a goal.

Callum kicked his first goal of the season, and will no doubt enjoy many more in the games ahead.

Best players today, with coach's summaries:

3 Manny - Worked hard in midfield to defend and then create plays moving forward with clever through balls and line work crossing in to the centre. At least four goal set up and one goal himself. Looked up a lot to find players.

2 Orland - Scored five goals and earned himself a new soccer ball (a reward from his mum)! Played a good mix of self reliance and team work in front of goals.

1 Grace - A brick wall on defence! Took her time with the ball and always found players even when under pressure. Also had debut in forward and made great runs and space going up.

Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (2) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Gold (1)

A very close game today with a nil all draw at half time.  Both teams played well and pushed forward but the keepers were on their game.  The second half was a more attacking game with both teams pushing for the winning goal.  On the end Mt Barker got the points up by 1 goal.

U12 Div 1

Torrens Valley Soccer Club (3) vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club (3)

with a fantastic winter day and both teams ready to get stuck into what would be a very tight game it was the perfect atmosphere for some great Hills junior soccer.

the Nairne Knights got away early with a quick goal, but by the 14th minute the Rams got one back to be even 1-1. The smaller size of the pitch favoured the knights with their bigger players shutting down the rams fast running game, and with no space to run their familiar tactics were not breaking through. the Rams Defence held though and fast recovery for the long knights kicking game kept the Rams in it.

the second half saw a change of ends and a change of tactics when the Rams adopted the Knights tactic of kicking long through and over the traffic. Knights scored two unanswered goals and the Rams were against the wall 1-3. dominant play from the gutsy Rams midfield running player Cooper Mugford and Ben Kramer containing the strong attack left the defence to kick it long and high to capitalise on the small field creating options for the wings and attack with two quick goals in two minutes drawing the scores even 3-3. the smaller Rams were struggling to break though and an injury in a tackle to the hattrick scoring Aiden Williams saw him carried off. with a few minutes to go neither team was able to break the tie.

it was an exciting game and very closely contested.

Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (8) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (2)

A bitterly cold start to the morning didn't hamper Strathalbyn Strikers U14 Red team as they took on Torrens Valley this weekend.

From the starting whistle it was clear that Strathalbyn meant business and with great pace from their forwards the goals came quickly. Torrens Valley made attempts to equal Strathalbyn's pace with deft footwork by their own forwards but Strathalbyn's defense and midfield put paid to their plans and as a result Torrens Valley, whilst scoring twice, weren't able to equal Strathalbyn's tally.

Final score:

Stathalbyn 8 - Torrens Valley 2

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (4) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (2)

Most of this group of Warriors have had many visits to Bradwod Park over the past two years always ending in disappointment, but with the sun shining and a new season they went into the game with a sense of purpose after last week's first win for the season.

Woodside started the better team with good passages of play and many strong runs into the Stirling Districts defensive third, but their opponents stood strong and worked hard to clear the ball out of their defensive line. Woodside maintained its pressure winning a number of corners and when a ball was finally played across the goal away from the keeper it fell to the feet of a Woodside player, who struck the ball first time and placed it into the bottom right corner. Woodside had been here many times before scoring early and then giving their opponents an opportunity to get back into the game. The same could have occurred today but Stirling Districts were unlucky to not put away their chances as they pressured the Woodside goal, either just missing, deflection from the keeper, hitting the post or even the crossbar in continuous attacks. To Woodside's credit they tightened their defence taking greater responsibility for their opportunities and stopped their opponent's run.  With the ball travelling from end to end it could have been anyone's game, but when a free kick was awarded in the last few minutes of the first half Woodside took its opportunity, with a direct shot on goal that was not cleared by Stirling Districts the ball found the feet of a Woodside player who turned with the ball and slotted it into the back of the net.

The start of the second half started as competitive as the first, with both teams making challenging runs into each others halves. The Woodside defence stayed strong running and closing down Stirling Districts attacks. Woodside continued to play is brand of good passages of soccer and were rewarded when a player finally broke through the Stirling Districts defence and beat the keeper. Stirling didn’t give up and continued to play the ball around providing themselves a number of opportunities that were stopped by the Woodside keeper and defence. As the game continued to flow with Stirling pushing players forward they finally had a shot that ricocheted off a Woodside player, there was nothing the Woodside keeper could do as the ball flew over his head and into the back of the net. Stirling continued to push forward again and the Woodside keeper and defence held strong. When Woodside had the ball they looked the better team, finding team mates in better positions. When the right winger and central midfielder combined to beat the Stirling District defence it left the winger with a one on one with the keeper, taking it in his stride he slotted the ball home.

Stirling Districts lifted again and applied pressure to the Woodside defence but after multiple attempts by the Woodside team to clear their lines Stirling Districts scored again. Both teams should be commended for their sportsmanship as the game was played in good spirit, in a free flowing game Woodside finished up the winners but the story could have been different if Stirling Districts found its mark in the first half.

U14 Div 1

Stirling United Soccer Club (4) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (1)

After a frosty night, the teams were greeted with brilliant sunshine for this round 9 game. It was back to the future for Stirling United with the re-introduction of Heathfield High School as a home venue after a couple of years break. Rangers started well, providing plenty of defensive resistance and have a couple of fast break opportunities themselves. As the game settled, Ky Henry was displaying his usual dash from right back, and provided the first real opportunity for Stirling when he passed to Araby Phelan after lovely run down the sideline, with Phelan setting up Charlie Rollings whose shot went just wide. Shortly after, left back Nik Smith made a run of his own, only to see his shot go over the crossbar. The first goal of the game came courtesy of a quick release from Calan McCormick in the Stirling goal, with some brilliant passing from Akash Ghimire and Henry Monaghan ending with Phelan slotting it past the Rangers keeper.

Rangers continued to defend stoutly, but most of the attacking was being done by Stirling, with another Phelan shot drawing a fabulous save from the keeper, and Rollings shot deflecting off the post to allow the defence to clear. With just the one goal in the first half, the game promised to be tight, and for the first 20 minutes of the second Rangers continued to hold Stirling at bay.

With less than 15 minutes remaining, Toby Leigh, switched from defence to attack received a great through ball and extended the lead for Stirling. A minute later, Stirling received a free kick alongside the centre circle, and McCormick, released from goal for the second half, sensed the Rangers keeper off his line and looped the ball over the top and just under the crossbar to score a brilliant long range goal.

Rangers continued to play with determination, and their continued pressure forced a handball in the Stirling penalty area, which was taken comfortably by Marcus Neill. A final goal from Phelan after a lovely touch on from Teale Gates rounded out the scoring.

U16

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (7*) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (1)

The U16's travelled out to Birdwood to play Torrens Valley. With no bench it was setting up to be an interesting game and a good opportunity to test out the boys fitness. Woodside started the better of the two teams and capitalised on their early opportunities. With Toby upfront there was no doubt he was keen to kick a bag. Woodside put the pressure on for most of the first half and resulted in lots of shots and corners to set up some goals. Torrens Valley's goalkeeper played really well to keep a few out but Woodside had a good lead at the half time break. In the second half, Woodside mixed it up and gave a few opportunities for defenders to play up front. It was unusual and you could tell they weren't quite naturals but it was good to see them get on the ball and take a few shots, even if some of them were offside. There were a few hat-tricks for Woodside to come away with from Ben Tyas and Asher Hammat and speedster Toby Christiansen scored 8. The positive for Torrens Valley was that they scored and had a few incredible saves but it wasn't enough and Woodside came away with the win.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (1) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (7)

The sun was shining for the Under 16s battle between Stirling United and Hahndorf at Heathfield High School. Stirling United started strongly and slotted an early goal and despite the efforts of Hahndorf’s defence, they scored again within the first 10 minutes. Hahndorf’s forwards, Jack Anderson and Micah Edgecombe fought hard but could not find the back of the net. Stirling United scored a further 3 goals in a half of football that they dominated, despite the great efforts of Hahndorf’s defence, Alex Montagu, Xavier Kell and Tully Probert. Jack Eakins was strong in the midfield for Hahndorf as well as Will Bailye and Angus Mason who had plenty of ball. Hahndorf failed to give up at 5-Nil and came out fighting in the second half. They had plenty of ball and finally, Eddie Hardingham found the back of the net from a long free kick by Eakins, which was their only score for the day. Hahndorf’s keeper James Bagley was tested a few times by Stirling United’s forwards and he made a number of great saves. Hahndorf’s Josh Rayner, Jackson Doley and Montagu held back Stirling United’s forwards and Eakins assisted Bagley in the last line of defence. Stirling kicked two late goals and walked away with a strong 7-1 win and Hahndorf would like to thank Stirling United for a hard-fought game played in good spirit and sportsmanship.

U13G

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (6*) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (0)

Today our U13Gs headed out to Anembo park to face Mt Barker. A combination of good weather and confidence had everyone in good spirits. Unfortunately Mt Barker only had 9 players available, leaving 5 of the Woodside girls on the bench. A big thankyou to all the girls who were good sports about this! We took an early lead from a stunning hat trick performed by striker, Sophie Urwin. This was followed up by a strong run made by our centre midfielder Maya Nambiar who snuck a goal past the keeper, putting us 4-0 up at half time. With so many girls on the bench and a comfortable lead there were many changes to our lineup, changing keepers, and giving defenders the opportunity to have a run up front and s ire some goals! Well we did just that, Rebecca Wall smacked two goals into the back of the net, followed by a well celebrated goal by Bree Mensforth and sneaky score by our previous keeper, Rachel colla. We finished up the match with an 8-0 win, 4 goals scored in each half proving all of our Woodside girls are hungry for goals and loving having fun while scoring them! Thankyou to all the supportive parents who come out every week with such a positive attitude! Great game from the girls, I am very proud of them all! ⚽️

U17G

Hahndorf Soccer Club (6) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club (1)

On a chilly but sunny afternoon Hahndorf played Stirling at Pine Avenue, for their second match of the season.

Hahndorf were undermanned due to illness and injuries, with nil subs available. Stirling took advantage of this, surging forward early on and within 8 minutes Karlijn Voorhoeve for Stirling scored a goal. They kept persisting but Sterre dePree, goal keeper for Hahndorf, saved the next shot at goal.

Hahndorf then started to attack, with Monique Bessen eventually scoring at the 20-minute mark. Stirling counterattacked but Charlotta Nielsen, who was Hahndorf’s captain for the day, defended brilliantly. Charlotte Muffett, new to the game this year for Stirling showed greatly improved skills in the field and Maddie Adams continued to strive towards goal for the Stirling side.

With the scores level at one each at half time, all was set for an exciting 2nd half. Hahndorf attacked immediately, with Kiora Hemmings providing good support to Roberts, who scored quickly. Although tired, the 10 Hahndorf players kept persevering across the field, resulting in another goal by both Roberts and Bessen.

Stirling’s goalie for the second half, Laura Bellido was constantly under attack as the home team used the downhill advantage, but made some great saves, including a brilliant stop against all 3 forwards. This set Stirling into attack but Hahndorf’s defensive line, as well as great goal keeping, made it too difficult for them to score again.

The goal of the game was in the closing 10 minutes, when Hemmings shot a long-range air shot over the Stirling keepers head. Roberts then hit the sealer for Hahndorf, with the final score 6 to 1.
