Bridgewater Soccer Club vs Hahndorf Soccer Club

Traditional rivals converged in Bridgewater for a blockbuster under 8s encounter in perfect conditions.

It was the first game in the enclave for a number of years and both teams had a steely look about the clash ahead.

The younger Bridgewater side were immediately under pressure from a well organised Hahndorf outfit.

Goals flowed and Hahndorf were in no mood for slowing down. But, like most weeks, Bridgewater despite being younger and slighter, showed some resilience of their own with James in goal leading the counter.

Locklyn had a bustling run and a ripper shot to no avail while Hudson continued to improve and Patrick fought like a terrier with a lost ball.

The second half was a much more even contest as Ned took up goals for Bridgewater.

Hahndorf continued to flex their muscle and scored a few more as the bigger Magpies look to take Bridgewater to school on a Saturday.

Finley was having none of it as he stormed into the Hahndorf defence but was unlucky with his shot.

In the end Hahndorf came away with a satisfied appetite while for the young Bridgewater outfit the journey and improvement continues as they look forward to some growth spurts and taking on their cross-freeway rival next season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Bridgewater Soccer Club

The under 8 round 5 clash between Hahndorf and Bridgewater saw both teams play with great teamwork and energy on a crisp sunny morning. Hahndorf won the toss with Joshua Blain kicking off the game. The Bridgewater Primary School soccer pitch was a perfect backdrop for teams to show their progressing skills. Oliver Knight, Goal Keeper for the first half, and Violet Mitchell defended the many attempts at goal, keeping Bridgewater scoreless.

The play was controlled by good team work with Carter Hartley passing the ball with accuracy which led to Josh Pettitt scoring the first goal.Blain and Soren Mickan ran hard to push the ball forward with Blain kicking the next goal. Mitchell and Levi Neumann showed great courage stopping the Bridgewater advance and cleared the ball to Owen Hoyle who kicked a great goal. Mickan drove the ball down the centre of the pitch, passing the ball through a tight window kicking another quick goal for Hahndorf.

Great teamwork, encouragement from all players saw more goals from Pettitt and Knight. At full time both teams gave their all, and the spectators were provided with an enjoyable game played with enthusiasm.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club

A sunny home ground pitch provided the perfect venue for this rounds under 9 clash between Hahndorf Black and Murray Bridge United. After agreeing to play 8 a side play was got under way. An early goal scored by Lucca Falvo Lopez saw the Hahndorf boys with an early lead. Many more shots were made on goal but went wide, with an active forward line of Jhett Frost, Hugo Curtis, Zack Perkins all working to get the ball to the ready for the shot. The half time whistle just caught the Hahndorf boys short of another goal but refuelled with lollies and oranges they headed out again. The second half saw some excellent defence work by Caleb Earley and Rowan Gilroy returning the ball back to Hahndorf’s end if it dared to cross the midline. Falvo Lopez took a slide and snuck the ball towards the goals where it was very nearly saved but unfortunately for Murray Bridge went over the line. After saving another attempt on goal with his face, the Murray Bridge goalie had one sneak through his legs kicked by Lachlan Gardner. In the last few minutes of the game, play made its way down the Murray Bridge end with good work in goals by Connor Castle keeping the opposition without a goal.

Bridgewater Soccer Club vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc

Under 9 Strathalbyn impressed early with an intimidating warmup in the unusual sunshine of Bridgewater.

Strath looked a slick outfit but it was Bridgewater who had the early possession.

The red defence was Iron Curtain like with the blue and whites unable to penetrate with a goal.

Hugo for Bridgewater looked hungry and began peppering the goals reminiscent of a sandwich artist keen for a spicy roll.

The game was paused for a moment as the ref checked the goalkeeper wasn't Mat Ryan. It wasn't, he was just having a blinder between the sticks.

Bridgewater kept pushing and finally wore the goalkeeper out with Nathan slotting one home just before half time.

The second half saw Strath resolute and ready to respond to the goal.

They pushed forward but met a mighty defence with Henry, Ethan and Paige standing tall and denying entry to dangerous areas.

Bridgewater continued to counter and were rewarded as Nathan slotted home another goal.

A ripper game as the round ball game returned to Bridgewater for the first time in years.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Blue

Nice sunny day at Anembo Park, Littlehampton for friendly game between Hahndorf under 9 white and Mount Barker United Blue.

Toss conducted by Rock / Paper / Scissor game and MBU won the toss. Great start to second half as Petitt kicks a goal within two minutes of its start. MBU showed some good defence work but weren't strong enough for Hahndorf with, Benjamin Kowald and Jamie Timmins keeping the back half safe. Connor Ozolins was fantastic in midfield with long clearing passes into offence.  Some great kicks observed between Spencer and Charlette from MBU to keep the game competitive.

After further unsuccessful goal attempts by Hahndorf, Singh kicks the thrid goal for Hahndorf.

Great passes and team work by Hahndorf to bring home the win.

The teams appeared well matched and put on a competitive display. Hahndorf’s defence team of

Hahndorf Soccer Club White (3) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (4)

It was a bright and clear morning with kick-off 6 minutes ahead of schedule when Hahndorf Under 12 White met with Mount Barker Under 12 Red. It was the first opportunity Hahndorf have had a full team so far this season. Facing into the sun did not appear to hinder the Reds, moving forcefully past strikers Captain Hayden Lien, Ryder Hill and Emlyn Gilroy. Hill showed some strong skills pushing against the Reds’ advance. Oliver Aylen was quick to demonstrate his defensive skills in midfield, flanked by Jacob Gardner and Oliver Dahmke. Defenders Patrick Hinze, Harry Mumford, Dante Man and Jasper Jones saw a lot of action early in the piece. Some excellent teamwork demonstrated by Man and Mumford. Hill and Gardner shared their first serious push towards the Reds goal before a free kick was conceded. Aylen took a thrown in with Mumford passing to Jones. The play moved quickly to the other end of the pitch and back again. A great save by Bowden prior to one being conceded. At least eight more saves followed over the half with only one sneaking passed. Bowden has all the makings of an exceptional keeper.

Hill and Lien worked well together, as did Aylen, Gilroy and Jones. Some great defending by Mumford and admirable perseverance by Hinze. Dahmke took a throw in which was met with an unexpected header by Hill. A little later and there was a good cross by Gilroy, evidence of his reading the play. Substitution saw Dahmke, Gilroy & Gardner replaced by fresh legs Levi Beesley, Harrison Gould and Zoe York. These three quickly got to work with some flashy footwork by Gould and Beesley backed with great positioning by York. York took an impressive kick down the wing and the ensuing scuffle saw a Reds throw in. Beesley made a good cross to Lien before Gould took a throw in. Great defending by Mumford. Lien was able to pick up the pass, breakaway and score Hahndorf’s first goal of the match. At halftime the score was Reds 3 v Whites 1.

The second half began with renewed determination from Hahndorf with goal attempts by Lien and Gould. Beesley had a great run up the far wing with good positioning by both him and York mirroring him across the pitch. This enabled Gould to score a goal. Hahndorf continued their pressure on Reds goal, ensuring their keeper and defenders were kept busy.

Hill, Jones and Mumford took to the pitch substituting for Aylen, Dahmke, Hinze. Great run by York up the wing backed up with a free from the top of the box not converted to a goal. Gardner and Beesley rushed at the keeper’s kick and rewarded with a corner and a great save by Reds. Hahndorf’s attack stayed strong and Hill scored a goal. Reds retaliated with renewed vigour and Hahndorf held them off. This included an impressive body block by Jones. A free kick by Gilroy helped to push Hahndorf back into the attack before a Reds throw in. Gould made a run at goal and a timely pass would have resulted in a goal, however, in this instance it was not to be. Beesley made yet another attempt on goal and was rewarded with a corner.

The last 7 or so minutes of the game were a nail biter with the desperation levels of both teams high. Jones found himself as the only defender in a Reds triangle and made the best decision available and stuck with the ball. This was as Reds mounted significant pressure on goal and despite some good clearing by Bowden and the defenders, a goal was conceded after grazing the crossbar. Man, Hinze Jones had worked tirelessly. Beesley fired up and went for another goal attempt before the ball returned to Hahndorf’s defensive goal. Had it not been for Bowden’s exceptional work in goals for the full game, it is highly likely the end result would have been less favourable. Again, excellent leadership was demonstrated by Whites’ more experienced players supporting those new to the game and full pitch. Some of our players who have recently come up from U10s are learning to appreciate the difference in game play from a half to full-size pitch and it will be exciting to watch as they develop over the season.

Final game score was Reds 4 to Whites 3. Hahndorf Under 12 White wish to thank Mount Barker Under 12 Reds for the game played Saturday 25 July 2020.

Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (4) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (3)

A chilly, but beautifully sunny winters morning greeted players and spectators at Anembo Oval to witness Mount Barker Blue take on Hahnford White. Mount Barker were coming of a loss the previous week and were keen to get back into the winners circle. Hahndorf White were also coming of a loss to their sister team, Hahndorf Black. Both teams were itching for a victory!

The game started with Mount Barker kicking off and immediately penetrating deep into the Hahndorf half. A good move by Mount Barker mid-fielder Rupert Curran threatened but the Hahndorf defence were up to the task. Mount Barkers midfield of Remarni Puiatti, Sophia Canova, Jonty Burzacott and Rupert Curran were controlling the game and field position. This allowed Mount Barker strikers of Archer Hawkins and Liam Dunn a couple of good opportunities to open the scoring, however Hahndorfs defensive line held firm

With weight of possession and field position, it wasn't too long before some points were scored. Remarni Puiatti,  who had been pressing forward, found the back of the next with an excellent shot on goal to put Mount Barker into an early lead after only 10mins. Mount Barker now had their heads up and were continually pressing forward. Hahndorf managed a couple of piercing runs into the Mount Barker defensive line but were denied any real genuine scoring opportunities.

Mount Barker quickly gained the ascendency and moved the ball well to their outside runner Jack Pallant. Jack did well to maintain control and feed the ball into the goal square. After some scrambling by both teams, Jonty Burzacott calmed slotted the ball to a diving keeper who got his hand to the ball - only for the referee to award the goal as it had passed over the line. This was Jonty's first goal in soccer and this is always a special moment for a young player. His team mates rallied around him and made the occasion very special. His Mum was rather chuffed too!

At the 16th minute Mount Barker were 2 - 0 to the good

Mount Barker now had a confident strut in their step. From the ensuing kick-off, they quickly assumed possession and moved the ball well. Centre back Colin Patterson moved forward to give Mount Barker an extra attacker and made it very difficult for Hahndorf to find any space. After a succession of passes Remarni Puiatti claimed his second goal of the match to move the score to 3 - 0 after 19 minutes. The game was now slipping away from Hahndorf

From the kickoff Hahndorf, found some pep in their step and were determined to fight. The Mount Barker backline of Jamison Henke, Colin Patterson, Henry Main and Kael Sander were now being put under some positive pressure from the Hahndorf team. After a number of corners, which were well defended, Mount Barker composed themselves and earned a goal kick. Unfortunately the goal kick found the foot of Hahndorf #9 Hayden Lien, who confidently put the ball past a diving Billie Goedecke to claim Hahndorfs first goal of the game.

Going into the half-time break Mount Barker led 3 -1 against a surging Hahndorf.

The second half started with Hahndorf determined to get early points and that, they did. 4 minutes into the half Hahndorf’s Harrison Gould claimed his teams second goal to move the score to 3 -2. Hahndorf were surging back!

Mount Barkers goal keeper, Billie Goedecke, was put under enormous pressure as Hahndorf tested his skills with numerous shots on goal. Hahndorf now had weight of possession and field position, a dangerous combination! The next 16 minutes belonged to Hahndorf as they constantly pressed forward with threatening runs. Mount Barkers wide midfielder, Sophia Canova never stopped running and often delivered promising runs down the right side of the Hahndorf defensive line. Not to be outdone, Hahndorf were nothing but persistent and at the 50th minute delivered a well-earned equalizer to #6 Jacob Gardner to level the scores at 3 -3. We now had a game on our hands!

This goal stung Mount Barker into action with the clock ticking down. They composed themselves and started to push the ball wide to their midfielders who maintained control. A good striker is one who follows the ball and is constantly hungry. This was superbly demonstrated when Mount Barker fullback, Colin Patterson, struck a thunderous shot on target, only to hit the cross-bar. Ever the hungry striker, Archer Hawkins followed the shot and deservedly claimed his first goal of the match to deliver Mount Barker a thrilling 4 -3 victory on the stroke of full time.

The Mount Barker supporters erupted! Hahndorf were despondent but gallant in defeat. Both teams had delivered a thrilling spectacle that was a real joy to watch

Next weeks game for Mount Baker is against the dangerous Woodside Red team and for Hahndorf, they will face off against Nairne

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold (1) vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club (1)

Home and visiting fans were again greeted by clear, sunny skies and premium conditions for fast football when Woodside Warriors U12 Gold hosted Nairne Football Club for their Round 5 encounter.

Nairne were looking to get the monkey off their back this week after drawing their last two matches. And right from the outset they looked every chance of doing just that! The Nairne side is a well balanced unit that includes a scurry of speedy little nippers who can turn their opponent inside out, as well as a few bigguns who can kick the leather off it – all play with passion and integrity. It was the man-mountains who caught the eye of the home crowd and put the home players on high alert. To compete, the smaller home side would have to find every ounce of strength that they had and channel their energy into well-disciplined intensity. And that is exactly what they did. Nairne dominated field position for much of the first half, enabling them to create a number of half-chances. But the Warriors were continually in the right spot and their constant defensive press made sure that all shots were either hurried, or from out in the bleachers. But every time that they cleared the ball, the powerful Nairne defenders would send it back with interest, giving their forwards another chance at the net. This pattern dominated the entire first half and although Woodside created what was, perhaps, the best chance of the half from a well struck corner and a bobbling ball on the goal-line, the final shot was deflected by a Nairne defender and we went to the break at nil all.

The second half was extremely reminiscent of the first, but with the teams running in opposite directions. Eventually, legs began to tire and small gaps started to pop up in the Warriors defensive unit. This, coupled with a few clearances that went up the middle, created a few better scoring opportunities for the visitors. Eventually, they capitalised on one and put themselves in the box seat at 1 – 0 with about a quarter to go. But a one – nil lead is a precarious thing in football. And when you are trailing by a single goal, you know you are still in the hunt. Over the first four rounds, Woodside Warriors U12 Gold have shown a complete unwillingness to give-in, and to be down by a single kick, with a vocal home crowd urging them forward, they were not about to surrender this week either. After 59 minutes of the 60 minute encounter, Woodside made their final assault, driving the ball up the right wing. There, they were met by the Great Wall of Nairne, which was carefully designed to repel just such an attack. But the unselfish Woodside forwards, who knew they could not penetrate on their own, created a beautiful right-foot-cross-to-left-foot-shot combination to draw the game level. And though they sprinted back to get the game going and create another chance, the ref blew his whistle to draw the curtains on a tight and enthralling encounter.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (1) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (3)

It was a crisp, sunny morning as Hahndorf Black prepared to play against Woodside Warriors Red. Woodside were quick to take possession of the ball, however Hahndorf were remaining strong and working as a team to put pressure on their opponents. Hahndorf were eventually able to move the play after Jacob Neumann produced an impressive kick towards the centre of the field. Woodside fought back strong, being the first team to make an attempt at goals, albeit unsuccessful. Henri Bjordal and Neumann J. worked well together to once again move the play to Hahndorf’s end allowing Bjordal to take a shot at goals, however roles were soon reversed and the Woodside team remained strong in their defence. As play continued both teams were performing strong in attack and defence as the ball ping-ponged from one end to the other. Hahndorf was once again faced with a tense moment while trying to clear the ball from their opponent’s goal and after much persistence they finally broke free. Pepe Zahra and Joash Ng continued to apply pressure allowing Angus Mifsud and Zack Schwarz to get on top of the ball immediately after being subbed on to play. As the half time whistle blew both teams were yet to score. Play once again began and both teams continued to put up a fight making several attempts at goal. Woodside eventually broke away from the Hahndorf defence and took another shot at goals and despite all of Schwarz’s efforts to hit the ball out of the goals, it was on the rebound that the Woodside player would be successful at scoring the first goal of the game. As play continued Woodside were able to score again despite the pressure being applied by the Hahndorf team. As the end of the match was approaching Neumann J. and Ryley Neumann pushed on hard together working together giving Neumann J. the opportunity to score Hahndorf’s first goal. Both teams played extremely well in an even levelled match. Well done!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (3) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (1)

The Woodside Warriors Red Under 12's hosted Hahndorf Black on a beautiful winter's morning. Both sides were sharp out of the blocks and what ensued was a tense arm wrestle between the Warriors attack and a very disciplined Hanhdorf defence. The Warriors midfield through Rojo Nambiar, Finn Cradock and Jamie Spooner provided solid supply to forwards Nikos Aslanidis and Josh Constable. Unforutnately, their scoring opportunities were skilfully negated by Handorf's ability to get numbers back in their defence and force the numerous Warriors shots on goal wide. At around the 15 mninute mark of the first half, momentum swung towards Hanhdorf and it was their attackers who were wreaking havoc through the Warriors defenders. Nate Dealtry, occupied the Central Defence role and alongside him Thomas Honner and Jordan Viargara assisted with leading the resistance against the now very dangerous Hahndorf forward attacking press. Axel Vassos, who lined up between the posts again, was called into duty a number of times and made some good saves and despite a number of shots rattling the posts, the Warriors were fortunate to go into half time with a clean sheet. The half time debrief was a tale of what could have been. The Warriors chargers were challenged by their coach to capatilise and be rewarded for their efforts in attack. The second half saw the introduction of Gracie Llyod and Deagan Arnold who rotated the tiring Woosdie defenders who were still feeling the effects of a very good Hanhdorf offense's first half.

The first 10 minutes of the second half were almost a mirror of the first however, the Warrior's forward thrusts were becoming more dangerous. At the 15-minute mark Aslanidis broke down the left wing and dazzled through numerous Hanhdorf defenders with his slick ball movements and bagged an awesome goal to open his account for the morning. Beaming with confidence, the Warriors cranked into a higher gear which saw Elliot Klein and Nambia continue their outstanding high work rates in pushing dangerous forward presses which resulted in Hahndorf’s defenders pinned down on very much on their back feet. Aslanidis was clean in front of goal again and picked up his second goal within 3 minutes of his first. Constable, unlucky to score numerous times in both halves continued to trouble the Hanhdorf goal keeper with his perilous endeavours to hit the back of the net. The Warriors team were elated when Constable chalked up their 3rd and final goal for the Warriors with 5 minutes left to play. However, the impressive Hanndorf refused the throw in the towel and a long ball split the Warriors defence which resulted in them registering their first goal for the day. Finn Randell played another outstanding game at Right Back and ensured that any further attempts were thwarted before a nervy Vassos needed to be called into action again. With the Warriors backline under siege, Klein sensed that reinforcements were required to steady the stem of the relentless attacks from the Hanhdorf strikers. Klein’s sweeping role that he had played throughout the morning underpinned the Warrior’s defence an ensured that no more late goals were leaked.  A thrilling match concluded with the final score Woodside 3, Hahndorf 1.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (4) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (1)

On a spring like day Woodside Warriors Blue travelled to Bradbury to tackle the top of the ladder Stirling Districts White. With many spectators from both sides lapping up the sunshine this clash was always going to be entertaining. The game started with tight tussles in the middle with M.Olssen shutting down any gaps between Woodside defense and midfield. From this position little got past him, however when it did M.Davis on the left and the combo of M.Burroughes, J.Lunnon and O.Boerth swept it up. It was from one of these clean ups that M.Olssen played a deft thru-ball to E.Moylan who ran like the wind and converted his first goal of the season against the run of play.

It wasn't long before Stirling who were submitting excellent pressure on Woodside's defense and a Stirling goal would soon come. After only 8 minutes from the first goal of the match, Stirling’s J.Hollington levelled the score after some fine attacking play from his team. For the rest of the half the game swung to and fro with Woodside capitalising on two counter attacks with R.Sutton firing 2 shots into the back of the net within 10 minutes thanks to great interacting play with W.Limbert and S.Cotton, so at half time the score sat at  3-1 in Woodsides favor.

With a great chat at halftime and a few positional changes, Woodside did not want to let this one slip. This time the center of the field came more in use with J.Mewett running down the wing like "the Flash" and P.Thomas running rings around her marker in the box. D.Silvestri was being fed great through balls from S.Cotton and R.Sutton and it looked like it was time for the Blues top scorer to again get on the scoresheet.

With persistence comes reward and after a few blocked attempts D.Silvestri found the back of the Stirling net, 4-1.

For the next 10 minutes Stirling threw everything at the Woodside's team with attack after attack and many shots being thwarted thanks to Woodside's  B.Bevan in goal and the great work of M.Davis, J.Lunnon, W.Limbert and O.Boerth in defense made it very hard for Stirling to gain an edge

All players worked hard today from both teams, as the season progresses the improving skillsets of the U12's is evident and it’s great to see team camaraderie towards each other and their opponents. Another fine match on a fine winter’s day, end score Woodside Blues 4 Stirling Districts White 1

Hahndorf Soccer Club (1) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (5)

A glorious sunny day at Bradwood park had Stirling Districts Blue playing the Hahndorf Magpies. The first half of the game was fast and fiercely competitive. The teams were evenly matched and players were sticking to their opponents like glue.

Hahndorf's Stefan Panich and James Austin started off in attack and combined well for a few early shots at goal. The strong midfield of Julian Hack, Orland Rettig and Damon Martin fought hard to keep the ball moving to Stefan and James. Stirling scored the first goal and then James Austin scored a magnificent goal for the Magpies to even the score.

William Whiting, Matthew Knight, Konrad Micheal, Elwin Aylen and Gabe Aylen alternated throughout the game in defence. There was an outstanding header from Knight and Michael demonstrated some sensational long kicks. Aylen and Aylen were always in the right spot at the right time providing strong play. Whiting continued to chase down the fast Stirling players.

Angus McCrone, Oliver Aylen and Hamish Robinson provided great skills to the game and all players worked well together. Harry Williams played for the first time in goals and was impressive and stopped many Stirling goals.

The half time score was one all.

Stirling came out strongly in the second half of the game and put Hahndorf on the back foot. Hahndorf held them off for the first 12 minutes but then Stirling scored 3 goals withing about 10 minutes to take a strong lead. Hahndorf players showed fatigue in the hot midday sun and Stirling went on win the game 5 goals to Hahndorf 1.

Thank you to our linesman Micheal and coaches Jeremy and Ben and team manager Brett.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (5) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (3)

The Woodside Warriors U14 Blue team travelled for the first time this season to neighbours Torrens Valley, on what can only be described as a glorious spring like day. With Torrens Valley's defensive record as good as the Warriors this was going to be a great game to watch and both teams spectators were in fine voice as they watched an evenly fought game from beginning to end.

For once the Woodside team started strong but Torrens Valley's defence stood up to the pressure and after an evenly matched 10 minutes both teams knew they were in for a tough day. Woodside continued to make runs into attack and when a cross found the feet of the Warrior centre forward in front of goals he slotted it home for the first goal of the match. This sparked the Rams who now started to apply their own pressure down the left hand side of the park, with good passages of play they created opportunities which finally resulted in their winger finding the back of the net. Woodside were not to be denied though and their speedy centre forward was making Torrens Valley's defence scramble. After busting through the Ram's defence, he found himself one on one with the keeper and scored Warriors second for the match. Five minutes later Woodside were again in attack and through good passing in tight conditions they scored their third. Torrens Valley dug deep for the remainder of the half and again applied pressure to the Woodside defence, with a long switching ball they managed to get behind the defence and finding a team mate alone they closed the gap with their second. As the first half was coming to an end Woodside was again under pressure in its defensive third, and as a warrior defender was running the ball out of the penalty box a clash of players occurred and the referee awarded a penalty to the opposition. Torrens Valley’s penalty taker remained calm and slotted the ball home to make the half time scoreline Woodside 3 Torrens Valley 3.

The half time break saw a determined Warrior team, spurred on by the incident in the dying minutes of the first half. They reviewed their first half efforts and made a commitment that this game was not going to be a victory for their opponents. When they walked out to start the second half all players were determined that this game was not going to get away from them, they restructured the defensive line themselves and all started to close down their opponents across the field making it difficult for the Rams to get a shot on goal. In the middle of the park the Warriors midfield started to find space and with good ball movement were applying pressure to Torrens Valley’s defence that continued to work hard. Something had to give and after a well executed corner that found the head of an unmarked Woodside teammate, the ball was nodded home to give the visiting team the lead. For the next ten minutes both teams stepped up their ferosity for the ball trying to find that one opportunity to give their team that edge but for neither team it came. Then from nowhere Woodside broke through the Rams defensive lines and the centre forward was again one on one with the keeper. This time it was a different story as a poor shot on goal was easily saved by the keeper who put the ball back into play with a big kick down the park and now the Warriors defence was scrambling. They managed to remain calm and using the keeper cleared the ball out of the danger zone. Again both teams midfield fought to gain the upper hand to provide opportunities for their respective attackers. Finally it came with Woodside finding some space and the net for the fifth time, but with still 10 minutes to play the Warriors knew this game was not over. Torrens Valley continued to pressure but Woodside were not going to let this result slip from their grasp and continued to close down their opponents and stop their run. When given the opportunity Woodside managed to play the ball out of trouble through good passing and movement, but Torrens Valley contested to the end. As the final whistle sounded the Warriors had won a hard fought match, but their opponents should be commended and with the last game of the season seeing these two teams meet again Woodside will need to be on their guard if they want to take away the win next time.

Stirling United Soccer Club (6) vs Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (3)

On a morning where it felt like spring was on its way, Stirling United took on newcomers BHS Forest in the early game at Anembo Park. Stirling United started strongly, but against the run of play, John Doyle for BHS Forest opened the scoring with a nice solo effort. It took till the 18 minute mark for Stirling United to equalise with a strike from Toby Leigh following up after an initial save from the keeper. Just two minutes later, Henry Monaghan received from a throw in, cut inside and doubled the score for Stirling. As the half continued, Stirling took further control of the match, and a superb assist from Araby Phelan saw Monaghan with a brace before halftime.

Early in the second half, Yuto Okada went on a solo run down the left hand side, and smoothly rolled the ball into the net. At that point it appeared Stirling had the game in their keeping. BHS Forest had other ideas and continued to launch long balls over a Stirling defence that had lost their shape, and Sam Hill capitalised for a brace of his own, bringing Forest right back into the match.

In the final 10 minutes, with the game on the line, Stirling got their mojo back and put together a classy team goal that ended with Phelan finding the back of the net and giving Stirling some breathing space. A late goal from long range to Nik Smith, returning after an extended break through injury completed the scoring, leaving Stirling the victors over a very competitive BHS Forest.

Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (3) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (6)

A close fought match with Stirling being triumphant on the day. John D from BHSFSC scored the first goal of the match, with Stirling scoring three times afterwards to lead 3-1 at half time.
Despite having 3 subs, there seemed to be a lot of tired bodies on the pitch for BHSFSC in the second. Stirling scored first in the half, bringing their lead to 4-1, before BHSFSC found some energy with Sam H scoring twice to bring the margin within 1 goal at 4-3.  Stirling were able to further elevate, scoring another 2 before the end of the second half, resulting in a 6-3 win to Stirling.

The match was played fairly and with great sportsmanship

(Unfortunately both John D and Sam H are still not showing in SportsTG, so we have not been able to truly reflect these player's scores for the season)

Hahndorf Soccer Club (8*) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (2)

Match Report 25th July 2020

Under 16s Hahndorf vs Rangers

On a clear, blue sky day Hahndorf welcomed Rangers to Pine Avenue.

From the very first whistle, Hahndorf dominated their opposition.

The mid-field combination of Xavier Kell and Kane Gibbs provided Hahndorf with a strong engine. The duo set up many chances for Hahndorf forwards to capitalise on, making the most of every opportunity.

Edward Hardingham pounced on a misplay by Rangers to begin the deluge. Kyle Fenlon quickly scored a brace, bringing the score to 3:0 after only 10 minutes play.

Kane Gibbs produced a deadly pass to split the Rangers defence wide open, providing the opportunity for Jackson Doley to slot the ball home.

The next was a spectacular goal from outside the box, kicked with force by Kane Gibbs – there was very little the Rangers goalkeeper could do.

In a rare attack, Rangers bravely scored just before half time from a corner kick.

The second half mirrored the first with Hahndorf scoring freely.

However, Rangers never gave up and their heads never dropped – their fortitude was rewarded with a spectacular goal by Joseph Bellamy towards the end of the match.

Hahndorf comfortably won the game 12 goals to 2.

Stirling Districts Soccer Club (6) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (1)

Standing on the bright and sunny Strathalbyn Polo Grounds, Coach Bill was enticing the team to play as strong as last week. He was encouraging the girls to not only give their all, but start the game at the same amazing place that they had finished last week. The two teams had never played against each other and the game was there for the Stirling District girls to take as their own.

Hannah Noonan took the the pitch as a first time goal keeper. Although she was hesitant she did a wonderful job of blocking just a few goals. Except for one goal that just snuck past her right hand side giving Strathablyn the first and leading goal of the game. This goal fired up the Stirling District side and they decided that this was not how they were going to let the day go! Polly Harrison took it on herself to even the score card and kicked a superb goal in the 11th minute to even the playing field. But, this wasn't enough for Polly! Keeping the ball to their half the Stirling team dominated their half of the field to with Polly score once again before the first half finished.

Bill kept his half time talk to the point, but ensured that all the team knew how to handle their positions. The two new team members Nora and Madeline displaying incredible ball handling skills and helped to move the ball across the half of the field for Stirling Districts. After weeks of moving the ball skillfully around the pitch Layla Preece decided that today was her day and she scored her first ever goal in the 37th minute of the game. Josie Fitch kept strong in her time as goal keeper but Polly Harrison took her moments to shine for the last three goals of the game - a new U13G record, for this team, of 5 goals in one game.

Well done to both of the teams for a wonderful display of talents and skills.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (4) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (2)

Saturday 25th July 2020.  U13 girls Mt Barker United vs Hahndorf.  Anembo Park.  Hahndorf 4 d Mt Barker 2.

Sun was shining, pitch was dry. Hahndorf came out strong with Gracie Curtis kicking the first goal in the opening minutes.

Hahndorf moved the ball well up the wing creating opportunities for shots at goal. An evenly matched game with lots of to-ing and fro-ing from both sides.  Both sides fighting hard in defence until Jade Czukli of Hahndorf broke through the defence line scoring Hahndorf’s second goal.  Followed closely after with Eloise Cutting scoring the 3rd for Hahndorf.  Lucy McAvaney from Mt Barker United managed to break through Hahndorf’s defence with a goal attempt, thwarted by Hahndorf’s Charlotte Fairley.  Another Hahndorf shot at goal by Gracie Curtis from quite a distance, narrowly missing scoring and sailing over the top of the goal.

After half time oranges, Mt Barker took an aggressive stance on the field.  Their next attempt at goal by Lucy McAvaney, once again stopped by Keeper Charlotte Fairley with a massive stretch. Lots of back and forth left neither side with any score, United’s Maeve McAvaney protecting the goal with fierce determination.  Eventually Hahndorf’s Jade Czukli finding the back of the net past Maeve’s solid defence.

Fast legs and determination by Lucy McAvaney pushed the ball to United’s forward line with Lucy scoring United’s first goal of the match. Sienna Dengler’s concerted effort once again breaking through Hahndorf’s defence scoring United’s second goal. Hahndorf’s Eloise Cutting had another attempt at goal before the final whistle, but to no avail, finalising the game score at 4-2. Hahndorf’s Grace Haynes backed up a good game in defence and Maeve McAvaney deserves a mention at taking on a role no one seemed to want and stopping many attempts.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6*)

Round 5 at the Warrior’s home ground called for a glorious sunny Winter’s day. Since playing each other previously, Woodside knew they were in for a hard game but were keen to get things started. The game commenced with Woodside’s kick off moving the ball forward into their half, though it didn’t take long for Valley’s Midfield to win possession of the ball and turn the game around into their half and having a shot at goal. Woodside’s defence and goal keeper Rachel Colla were at the ready and reflected the shot, giving Valley the first corner kick of the game. Woodside’s keeper and defence were not only ready to get the ball out of the box  but to apply pressure on Valley’s forward players. Play continued in Valley’s half, as they tried to remain play back in their half however Woodside’s defence were fierce and applied the pressure. This pressure persisted throughout the game, which in turn saw Valley players having shots on goal from outside the box. Though this didn’t faze them, with their powerful shots on goal their first goal was awarded in the 19th minute by chipping over the top of the keeper from well outside the box. Woodside’s keeper, Rachel Colla was in perfect position and tried to reach for it but even with platform shoes there was no chance in touching the ball.

Torren’s Valley were hungry for another goal and continued to get into the box however Woodside’s defence were not only persistent they were smart, seeing Valley offside a number of times throughout the game. With this added pressure on Valley, Valley knew they had to play hard. And hard they did.

Half time saw Valley up three nil and straight away the pressure was on. But maybe a bit too much pressure by Woodside’s defended Sophie Urwin which in turn awarded Valley a penalty shot. Though Woodside’s keeper was raring to go and saved the ball from goal, she sure proved her keeping skills. The game continued with Woodside holding the defence and Valley powering through with their dazzling dexterous shots on goal from afar.

A huge thank you to all the supporters who came out to support the girls from the side lines as well as the referees and line men.

Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0)

The game commenced in lovely sunshine  and no wind.

The Woodside team played a well formed game and their goalie was amazing throughout the game keeping Torrens Valley on their toes and having to really push to get goals through.

First half

Woodside were pressuring towards Torrens Valley defence and goalie Matilda Feast to try to score and they were pushed wide away from the goal square.

Woodside keeping Torrens Valley unable to score until the 19 minute mark by Ruby Homer.  Torrens Valley were placing the ball down both sides of the pitch getting players involved and Woodside were intercepting and trying to get through the Torrens Valley defence on several occasions, however with the Torrens Valley experience this was trying at times, but have to give them credit for never giving up and continuing with their perseverance.   2nd goal was scored by Kiana Rogers placing into back corner of the goal.  Not long after Adelaide Williams scored the 3rd goal for the game.  A penalty on goal was taken by Grace Quane which was collected by the Woodside Goalie.

Second half

Woodside continued to push and pressure the Torrens Valley team,  once again the Woodside goalie protected her goals well while Torrens Valley tried to score during this half.  The Woodside defenders were all getting in there and helping out, Torrens Valley had to pass back and forth to try different ways of scoring.  There was an amazing goal by Zara Witter which went over the goalies head and into the goal.  2 more goals were scored by Elaine Miller and Amelia Williams.  The Woodside forwards caused some angst for Jamie Fahner in goals when there were a couple of attempts on goals.
