Elliot, Jonah, Kaiden, Arlo, Samuel and Sadie took the midfield with their fast running and fancy footwork. They didnt give up!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

The clouds cleared to make for a beautiful morning for the u8s Round 8 clash between Hahndorf and Nairne. The first half was a tough battle where neither team was able to score. Nairne were successful in stopping any of Hahndorf's play from reaching goal.  Indie Dunning from Hahndorf was strong in goal and stopped any attempt to score that Nairne made. Superb footwork from Levi Neumann and Soren Mickan saw the ball taken from Nairne and passed to Owen Hoyle who came so close to scoring a few times in the first half along with great attempts from Mickan. Joshua Blain was solid in defence for the match and kept the ball from reaching Nairne's goal. The second half saw Hahndorf come out and work brilliantly as a team to score some quick goals in succession.  Oliver Knight was in fine form and weaved the ball around Nairne to score Hahndorf's first goal. Mickan quickly followed suit with two more superb goals. Neumann was strongly determined all game in attack and finished the match with great play that led to him scoring two goals. Rosie Semple in goals held off any attempts Nairne made to score while Ali Semple and Carter Hartley played well in midfield sending the ball towards Hahndorf goal. It was an excellent game by both teams and many fine skills were displayed by all players.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Under 9 Black vs Stirling Districts Football Club Under 9 White
14 August 2020

Stirling Districts kicked off as it began to drizzle. The first half was an evenly matched affair with good passing and use of the pitch from both teams. In the 10th minute Hahndorf had good shots from Jackson Bidgood and Zack Perkins. In the 14th minute a good shot from Lucca Falvo Lopez was blocked by the Stirling keeper into the path of Caleb Earley whose follow up shot missed. In the 16th minute Hahndorf put through a good long ball with the chance of a goal - but the Stirling keeper saved well by coming out of his box and clearing the ball. Rowan Gilroy came to the rescue a number of times in defence for Hahndorf, blocking shots and dispossessing Stirling players of the ball.

In the second half, Stirling began to put more pressure on Hahndorf and kept the ball in their attacking half for prolonged periods. Early on Stirling had a quick break and looked certain to score, but the ball just beat the Stirling attacker into the Goal Box. Soon after, one of the Stirling players had a powerful shot from almost halfway that was just wide of the Hahndorf goal. In the 31st minute, Stirling reacted quickly to a Hahndorf goal kick and scored the first goal of the match. In the 34th minute, Hahndorf lost the ball and quick movement forward by Stirling led to a second goal. Hahndorf was struggling to get into their attacking half, but in the 38th minute Falvo Lopez was able to get clear and get a shot off. Unfortunately it was well saved by the Stirling keeper.

Both teams played hard and well. Stirling’s greater pressure in the second half won the game 2-0 for them.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Bridgewater Soccer Club

Well what a great game we had today with rain and sunshine throughout. Right from the start we had to work hard to get the ball from Bridgewater but we were able to work as a team and score a goal. They are a very fast little team and had a few attempts at goal but William worked hard as goaly and stopped all attempts bar one in the first half.

The second half Bridgewater put the pressure on and and were able to score a few more goals. We kept pushing on and stepped up our defense and were able to push the ball forward to score. A very tired team of seven left the pitch exhausted but should be very proud of the effort they put in.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (2) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Blue (1)

Saturday the 15/8 saw Hahndorf black take on Mount Barker United Blue at Anembo Park

Hahndorf started well with Ryley Neumann’s shot in the first 30 seconds just going over the top of goal. Henri Bjordal scored the opening goal after a good pass from Neumann. Plenty of offensive pressure from Cooper Liddle, Angus Mifsud and Blane Balcom saw numerous shots on goal. Jet Zahra got into the action after a good pass from Bjordal. Outstanding defensive work from Liam Sickerdick,Luca Cannavo and Joash Ng saw the score remain 1-0 at half time.

The second half saw some position changes with Pepe Zahra relishing the move from goalkeeper to forward, scoring the teams second goal after good passing again from Bjordal and Liddle. Zack Schwarz, along with P.Zahra  and Ng continued peppering the Barker goals but with no success. Despite some solid defending from Sickerdick and Toby Perkins, Mt Barker managed to peg a goal back. Final score 2-1 to Hahndorf

Hahndorf Soccer Club White (4) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (3)

As Hahndorf warmed up, the clouds came in bringing patches of rain and bleak skies to an already soggy pitch.  There was a strong start by Hahndorf against Torrens Valley. Harrison Gould took the first throw in before Oliver Aylen took the first tumble for the match. Torrens Valley amped up the pressure but where met with a great clear by experienced keeper Reilly Bowden. Unfortunately the first goal of the match was conceded to Torrens Valley shortly thereafter. This was despite some strong defensive work by Patrick Hinze and Jasper Jones, both exhibiting some solid long-range kicking skills. Hahndorf worked to keep play to the wings but Torrens Valley were keen to keep play to the boggier centre pitch and exerted considerable pressure. Bowden made another great save before the second goal for the match was conceded by sailing high above his head and just below the bar. The game continued almost as if in slow motion, slow and muddy. Good positioning by striker Levi Beesley on the left. Ryder Hill was skittled by the opposition, the first of several in what proved to be a very physical game for him. Harry Mumford brought his leadership skills to the game and was consistent in defence, clearing the ball forward to Hahndorf’s strikers. Another great save Bowden! Dante Man followed with an impressive kick up the soggy midfield enabling Emlyn Gilroy a good attempt on goal. Substitutions saw Zoe York take to the pitch and instantly team up with Hill for a series of exceptional plays before he was skittled again. Her leadership in defence was backed up with an impressive kick up the pitch to Beesley. Torrens Valley leapt back into gear and a third goal was conceded for the half. Hayden Lien made some good passes with his team mates, utilising the triangle formations being worked on in weekly training. In the dying minutes of the half, Beesley made another great attempt on goal but was not rewarded.

When play resumed for the second half, it was as though a whole new Hahndorf team was taking to the pitch! Half-time huddle had confirmed it would be good to focus play on the far left side of pitch and all players quickly demonstrated their keen listening. Man, Hill, York and Gould worked well together applying pressure to Torrens Valley. Aylen cleared the ball wide and Jacob Gardner backed up the team with good work in goals. Hahndorf really fired up at this point with team work supporting Beesley to score the first Hahndorf goal of the match. Substitutions again saw a change across each part of the line-up. Striker York displayed great work up the right wing. Torrens Valley applied pressure and were met with a great save by Gardner. As the ball was sent back up through the centre pitch, the goal kick was met with a header by Torrens Valley which was picked up by Hill with a push on goal. Beautiful work with Hinze passing to Hill to York which set up seasoned player Oliver Dahmke for his first club goal for Hahndorf – team work and a personal milestone all in one! The impressive team work continued with Hill, Dahmke and York up the left wing. Then finally the sun came out, as if to reward Hahndorf’s efforts! Lien and Hinze worked well together, even when Lien lost a boot. Hinze and Dahmke made some good plays together, as did Jones and Mumford. Gilroy spectacularly booted the ball up the pitch during a vocally quite moment. Torrens Valley made another push on goal which again was met with a great save by Gardner. Hahndorf retaliated hard, Gilroy and Dahmke both losing their footing and still Lien was able to push on and score a goal! Followed by another great save by Gardner, who is a great fit in goals as it’s very important to have a keeper with a voice and who controls their defence players. Hahndorf quickly converted the play and Beesley was able to score another goal in the dying minutes of the game. The improvement from all players each week is great to watch – team work makes the dream work!

At the final whistle, the scores were Torrens Valley 3 to Hahndorf 4. Hahndorf Under 12 White wish to thank Torrens Valley Under 12 for the game played Saturday 15 August 2020.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold (3) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (1)

After a wet week, the weather gods decided to crack a wry smile for round 8 of Hills Junior Soccer. At Woodside Fortress, they teased us with sunny skies early before covering the sun and chuckling as they sent cold scuddy showers to drench players and fans alike. But the standing water that covered the pitch only days earlier had receded to provide adequate conditions for open, entertaining soccer. And when Stirling Districts Blue turned up for their 11 o’clock showdown with Woodside Warriors U12 Gold, that is just what was delivered.

Even before a ball had been kicked in anger, this one looked like a being a classic contest between two U12 sides playing their first year on the big pitch. And when the ref signaled for play to begin, both groups leapt out of the blocks to run, kick, tackle and compete with their mates. Ah Football! The Beautiful Game! Played for the simple joy of it! The 22 young guns on the park, their mates on the bench, their family and friends all smiled and cheered as they enjoyed just being part of the game.

It was Woodside who dominated early, mounting several high quality attacking raids that demonstrated their willingness to share the ball to anyone in Red and Blue who was in a better position. This uncompromising team mentality allowed them to create space up front and get behind their opponents. And by the ten minute mark they had driven two into the onion bag to establish a commanding lead. But the young Stirling Districts players are a resilient bunch. Their defensive line regrouped and demonstrated a level of organization beyond their years. And by remaining calm, defending with intent and flooding back to help one another, they repelled a stack of Warrior raids. Their defensive efforts also delivered clean ball to the front-men, who were more than half-handy with ball-at-foot. Several times they made the Warriors goalie earn his coin, firing off a number of shots in their efforts to claw back into the match. The majority of these were released under extreme pressure, which denied them easy access to the net. But if you make your way into the box often enough, rewards will come. As the first half drew on a mis-skewed clearance by the Warriors defender was pounced on by the keeper, only to be called for a back pass. The home fans may have been dubious, but if they were they didn’t show it. They respected the refs decision and applauded as the indirect free was passed off and expertly finished by a powerful strike past the goalie. This took us into the break with Woodside up 2 – 1.

The second half was even tighter than the first. Although Woodside appeared to have a slight edge, Stirling Districts continued to defend their net with will. And when they went forward, they looked every chance of scoring. But Woodside continued to show why they are rated one of the best defensive units in the comp. – shepherding, tackling and clearing like a well-oiled machine. This competitive spirit and keenness to keep their house in order delivered them a clean sheet in the second half. Adding to their defensive presence, the Woodside back 4 brought another skill to the table this week – when they cleared, they were hitting team mates up the ground. This created a transition from defense to attack that created repeat chances. Eventually one of these snuck through, taking their lead to 3 – 1 and delivering them a hard-fought victory. Big congrats to all and sundry for playing and watching the game with enthusiasm and fairness and in an atmosphere deserving of the Beautiful Game.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (1) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (1)

Woodside Under 12 Red hosted top of the table and undefeated Stirling United. Although there was some initial nerves, Woodside started the match relatively positively and the game’s first 10 minutes allowed each site to create a handful of scoring opportunities.

Fletcher Jones, Josh Constable and Finn Cradock linked up well in the forward line and provided some great forward presses which put pressure on the Stirling defenses. Axel Vassos had made some good saves early and was in total control of any Stirling attack on goal. Unfortunately, a long range deadly strike from well outside the box caught the Warrior’s defense off guard and, Axel, with his vision obscured with the wall of players in front of him didn’t see the ball until it was well into the back of the net. To the Warrior’s credit, they didn’t go into their shells and demanded to be rewarded for the hard work that the team’s attacking chances that were being forged by Elliot Klein and Rojo Nambia’s tireless behind the ball efforts of left and right wing ball movement well into the Stirling’s defensive zones. Shortly after Stirling’s first goal Elliot struck a powerful strike which rattled off one of the Stirling defenders and nailed that back of the net. A deserving goal for a great balance between offensive and defensive focuses throughout the first half and it was fitting for both teams to go in 1 all at the half time break. Stirling had the luxury of rotating numbers through their bench and with the Warriors only having one substitute, the high tempo of the game took its toll on a number of the now tiring players. The second half became a real arm wrestle with Stirling pressing hard for the winning goal. Nate Dealtry led the Warrior’s defense and had good support from Finn Randall, Thomas Horner and Gracie Llyod. Jamie Spooner again lifted in the second half and started closing down balls that were in dispute which allowed Joran Viagara to press from right back deep into attack causing Stirling a few heart in mouth moments where we broke their defense but, could unfortunately couldn’t get a shot on target thanks to the good defensive intercept of a very hard working Stirling defense. Rojo Nambia sacrificed his own game for the greater good of the team and opted to play as a loose man in defense and was instrumental in negating the run against the play attacks that are created from a goal keepers bouncing ball at the half zone which can wreak havoc for defenders. Finn Craddock also mindful of the Stirling push for another goal also spent more time in defensive midfield and assisted Elliot with controlling the ball before it became a problem for Axel. The last 5 minutes was very tense and with Stirling throwing the kitchen sink at our defense, Gracie Llyod stepped up intercepted a number of dangerous loose balls which were pivotal to nullifying the constant waves of attacks from Stirling. In the dying seconds, Axel who had been sensational all day, choose the perfect time to run at the Stirling attacker with a certain goal already registered in the Stirling strikers mind and jumped onto the ball – almost like a combat solider was diving on a hand grenade to save his fellow squad members from the impending doom of an explosion. The Stirling Striker, still intend on scoring the winning goal continued his follow through but, couldn’t prize the ball from the Warriors keepers hands and, although he copped a kick to the ribs which smarted a little, it didn’t matter, it was well worth it. The Warriors refused to concede a last gasp goall. It was a fitting end to a marvelous display of defensive team work which summed up what a number of players had sacrificed for a very respectable draw against a very good Stirling United.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (6*) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Gold (0)

Woodside Warriors Blue came up against Murray Bridge United Gold today on home ground. The pitch was wet and muddy in patches and Warriors knew it would slow them down a little. When the whistle went to start the match, Warriors went at it fast determined to score the first goal. Determination and teamwork saw Warriors score the first goal 2 minutes into the match. That was the start of Warriors run, with a goal being scored every couple minutes seeing 8 Warrior goals scored in the first 15 minutes of the game. Warriors defense was tight and quick on their feet returning the ball to their forward after every center kick off. United Gold never gave up though with their forwards moving up the pitch to apply pressure and slow down Warriors run of goals. United Gold’s Goalie had to work hard but again never gave up and attempted to block all shots at goal, being successful on a few occasions. Warriors scored only 3 goals in the last 15 minutes of first half. Half time saw Warriors do a complete change around to their positions and United Gold came out determined to slow Warriors down. First 10 minutes of the second half saw the ball go back and forth between the two teams until Warriors first goal was scored 10 minutes into second half. Warriors continued to keep the ball in their forward and put United Gold’s goalie to the test firing shots for goal consistently. Goalie working hard to deflect as many as possible. Warriors Managed to score 7 in the second half. United Gold players never gave up and fought till the end whistle. Goal scorers for Warriors, Domenico Silvestri (5), Mack Olsson (2), Will Limbert (3), Max Davis (1), Ryan Sutton (3), Barney Bevan (1) and James Lunnon (1).

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (1) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (2)

Well done to Woodside Red who surprised Mt Barker that obviously were expecting an easy match. We proved quite the opposite. Everyone played to the best of their abilities, and it was great to see the improvement just keeps coming. We could see from the line that all players gave it their all, and the pressure we put on the ball meant they really struggled to find space to play, and thus the game looked much more like a game that could have gone either way.

The midfield provided by Sam, Lysiane and Flynn was outstanding. Sam was on the ball, and the space left when he was not in the middle was obvious. Lysiane put in some very strong tackles that had the opposition cowering in fear, looking for her when they got the ball just to be sure they weren’t next! Flynn showed his skill at ball control and positioning, doing a great job in covering defence when there was no one in the middle, crossing over with Ruby at times and clearing the ball on multiple occasions. Ryan played an inside forward position, helping out the midfield at times, but scoring an amazing goal at a difficult angle with a keeper in front of him.

Our defence played amazingly. Cooper was strong in centre defence and tackled hard and cleared, keeping his position well covered at all times. Bob played his usual no nonsense game shutting down Mt Barkers wingers easily. Ruby was fast and pressured the ball, stopping any chance of the wingers getting any room to play. Finally, Cohenn did an amazing job somehow managing to cover two positions – sweeper and centre defensive midfield – both at once. I’m not sure how he knew just where to be, not only to clear the ball from defence but also to move forward and push the ball past our midfield.

It was great to see Riley V, Banjo, Riley T and George all pressuring the ball in attack and pushing the ball past their defence. George played some great tackles, Riley V played some nice passes and Banjo just ran and ran. Riley T and Banjo both had some great saves in keeper, both stopping multiple goals!

Overall, it is satisfying to see that everyone enjoyed the game, and all are having fun whilst they are improving. If we keep working on our individual weaknesses whilst playing to our strengths, our last games will surprise some of the opposing teams. Well done Reds!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (7*) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club (1)

Woodside Blue travelled again this week and with its fingers crossed, hoped it was not another washout after the rain over the past few days. The team was ready to play but Hahndorf had other plans and within the first two minutes Hahndorf, with the downhill advantage, had put the ball in the back of Woodside’s net with some great running by their centre forward. The Warriors quickly recovered from the shell shock and found their groove. Two minutes later Woodside opened their account for the day and even though they were playing uphill nothing was going to stop the run of the Warriors forwards. Hahndorf, then continuously under pressure. scrambled to keep the Warriors out but in the space of 10 minutes the Red and Blues put away six more goals through good passing, speed and accurate finishing. Hahndorf, still applying pressure, managed to get into the centre third, but Woodside’s strength for a number of years has been its defence and it again held strong. The defensive unit was getting first to the ball, applying pressure to their opponents and calmly playing the ball out of defence that was quickly turned into attacking pressure at the other end. Hahndorf’s keeper was working hard and should be commended for his efforts as he closed down the Warriors attack, put hand to ball and saved many Warrior shots. With not much time left in the first half, Woodside’s centre forward scored his fourth for the half and Woodside went into the half time break with a strong lead.

Now with the downhill advantage, the Warriors set up in their opponent's half and this is where they stayed. Under the pressure, Hahndorf stepped up their marking and again their Keeper made some great saves. With Woodside allowing their opponents the opportunity to play out from defense they worked extra hard to close down the player with the ball when it came into play and provided themselves with opportunities. More goals came in the second half for the Warriors as they used the ball well creating good passages of play or individual brilliance. Woodside ran out victors for the day but Hahndorf should be commended for their efforts, they did not drop their heads and continued to run and contest until the final whistle sounded. Special mention should go to the Hahndorf keeper who had a tough day today but under the pressure he stood tall and did a remarkable job stopping many Woodside opportunities.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (1) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (7*)

Hahndorf opened the game with a bang, scoring the first goal in the first minute, after an explosive run straight to goal by James.

This served as a wake up call and Woodside Warrors Blue responded by stepping up a gear and beginning a relentless campaign in attack.

Tom Boekel and the Hahndorf defence line of Elwin, Orland, Gabe and Matt worked together well to prevent multiple attempts.

Woodside showed a high level of skill and fitness to make  the most of gaps and progressively wore down the Hahndorf defenders.

Later in the second half, defenders Gabe Orland & Stefan worked together but were not able to stem the goal scoring.

In his 15 minutes on the field, Hamish Robinson showed determination to win the ball and was unlucky to succumb after a skillful turnover against the Woodside attack.

The Hahndorf defence never gave up, but Woodside's fitness and the strong performances by their midfield and attack meant they won the day comprehensively.

U16

Stirling United Soccer Club (1) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (0)

Stirling United travelled to Woodside anticipating a tight clash given the competitiveness of these two teams over the last few seasons. Stirling took the honours in the previous clash this season, but the 3-0 victory that time flattered them as the match was a very even affair. Through the first 20 minutes, both sides had opportunities, but it was Woodside who had the better, with a shot from Jett Tonkin striking the left hand upright but bouncing back into the field of play. Woodside continued to attack, but somewhat against the run of play, a clearance found Toby Leigh clear on the wing. Leigh ran forward and took a shot across the keeper which found the back of the net to see Stirling take an unexpected lead.

In the latter stages of the first half, both sides had further chances, the best of which was another shot from Leigh that also found the woodwork leaving Stirling with the slenderest of margins at half time.

After the break, Woodside continued to pressure the Stirling back line. On a number of occasions Lachlan Stein in goal for Stirling raced out to make a definitive final challenge to snuff out attacking chances for Woodside. With a back line of Ky Henry, Kye McDonald, Emily Bouchereau and Matt Silcock repelling attacks stoutly, Stirling fought bravely to hold on for the win, but Woodside can consider themselves unlucky to not have at least taken a point from the game. Given their overall field dominance on the day, it would not have surprised if the score had been reversed.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (0) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (1)

You don’t have to win the game to feel like winners, and Saturday morning’s U16 game between Woodside Warriors and Stirling United certainly reflects this.

Both Woodside Warriors and Stirling United have not changed a great deal over the last three years. The relationship between the two has traditionally been strong. This is partly because both coaches share the pitch in a couple of senior competitions and partly because a high numbers of current rep players appear in both teams. There’s nothing sour between the two groups and this will no doubt continue beyond this season.

With that said Stirling United have always been dominant over Woodside. This started with Woodside being minor premiers in 2017, followed by the ever-unusual finals series where Stirling United pipped them at the post with a victory in the Grand Final. From then all games have fallen in Stirling United’s favour. Recent examples? 3-0 over Woodside, Round 1 this season. 6-0 over Woodside, Grading Round last season. There have been many others, 100% in Stirling United’s favour.

Woodside took to the pitch to at least put up a fight against Stirling United, once again, and for the last time this season. The game was held on a moderately wet Woodside Recreation Ground pitch. Thankfully the rain held off, however we are possibly a couple of weeks off of the pitch being saturated and unplayable (or at least very muddy).

From kick-off the play was in Woodside’s favour. Unfortunately a dedicated stats person is outside of either team’s budget, but it would have been interesting to know how much time was spent on the attacking end of the pitch or at least in control of the ball. Twenty-five of the forty minutes perhaps? Higher even?

Either way a slight lapse of judgement and a strong series of passes saw TOBY LEIGH of Stirling United shoot across the keeper to score. It was neither surprising nor unexpected that Stirling United would score first. What was surprising was that they took 25 minutes to do so; unusually slow, given how matches have previously played out.

The goal didn’t dampen the home team’s spirits and the last 15 minutes of the first half saw Woodside continue their control over the game, however it ended with 0-1 in Stirling United’s favour, despite the higher amount of strikes at Stirling United’s goal, albeit wayward and often grossly off-target.

Most second halves see a complete change of control. Stirling United usually enter the second half with a comfortable lead. This subsequently results in calmer play and ultimately an easy victory. A lead of a single goal at half time had them rattled.

The second half saw the game continue as it was from the first. Stirling United struggled to fully experience Woodside’s strong defensive line (MASON DUNOW, AIDEN SUTTON, CHRIS COLLINS and JOSH VASSOS with JAMES RENSHAW and TOMMAS BALACCO also playing parts) as they had to get through Woodside’s mid-fielders first. Meanwhile Woodside held control of the play, probably in as equal portion as the first half.

A couple of injuries saw Stirling United’s NIK SMITH leave the game early, but a dubious call from the referee saw a striking EDDIE HERMAN come off second best to defender KYE MCDONALD. Both players were simply doing their job, but the referee saw something else and paid it in favour to Stirling United.

The game ended 0-1 in favour of the away team, Stirling United.

“I don’t think either team, nor spectators on either side, felt the result was reflective of the game”, said Coach BRUCE TONKIN after the game. “It was a draw at best. Either way, given the history, it felt like a win and the boys were happy only losing to them by a single goal. Now Stirling United are now a single win away from challenging the top rung of the ladder, so good luck to them!”

TOBY VINCENT played outstandingly and was very deserving of best and fairest. JETT TONKIN and BENJAMIN BAILES also delivered strong efforts.

Stirling United will now travel to Pine Avenue to take on ladder leaders Hahndorf Soccer Club, whilst Woodside will travel to Springbank Secondary College to play BHS Forest after their recent defeat over Rangers.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (3) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (0)

It was a drizzly kickoff for the Hahndorf U16 Vs Murray Bridge United game on Saturday.  It was set to be a tough match between the first and second teams on the ladder.

Hahndorf’s Xavier Kell had the first shot at a goal, followed up with a second unsuccessful attempt by Hayden Abrahams.  The Murray Bridge goal keeper kept Hahndorf waiting for their first goal, saving great attempts by Jackson Doley, Kell and Kyle Fenlon.

Strong defence by Kit Erhart-Bruce, David Nielsen, Joshua Rayner and Oakley Lockyer kept the pressure on Murray Bridge, turning the play around on several occasions. Goal keeper, James Bagley made many excellent saves and Murray Bridge was unable to score.

Fenlon scored the first goal for Hahndorf with the help of Doley.  As the midfield remained strong, Hahndorf continued to dominate and Fenlon was able to score the second goal.

Murray Bridge kicked off following the half time break. Their goal keeper's skilled hands continued to challenge the Hahndorf forwards, staving off several attempts at goal by players including Kane Gibbs, Edward Hardingham and Angus Mason.

Hahndorf maintained it's strong defence line and a great kick from the corner saw Toby Boekel almost score.  Alex Montagu along with Mason showed some great skills moving the ball past Murray Bridge players.

Hahndorf scored their 3rd goal with some great ball control by Kell , who made his way down the line all the way from midfield.  Murray Bridge’s goal keeper was kept busy with several attempts by Hardingham but his keeping skills left the score unchanged. Bagley, ever reliable, kept the opposition from scoring.

Thanks to Murray Bridge for a challenging match that was great to watch.

Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc White (7*) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (1)

The Strathalbyn showdown was an action packed game. The first goal was scored by the Whites in the first minute, thanks to Brooklyn Rigney. Strathalbyn Red couldn't seem to get past the whites' defense, but the same was not true the other way around. Just a little after the first goal, Layla Frahn tried to score but missed. However, when the Whites took a corner, she made it up by scoring easily. The Reds tried multiple times to break past the opposition but were stopped by the steady defense or Matilda Mundy, the goalkeeper. Layla scored yet another goal by stealing the ball and taking it confidently up the middle. She tried for three in a row, but was blocked by Gemma, the Reds' goalkeeper. Bonnie makes up for it by attacking fiercley and shoots a goal. Sahara from the Reds accidently does a handball infront of the goals, but Gemma proves to be a challenge when Evie tries to score.

Just like in the first half, a goal is scored right away, but by the Reds this time! Tiana Storey-Possingham took it straight down the middle and past Matilda. Unfortunatley for them, Brooklyn and her super kick make up for it almost immediatley. With a powerful kick, she took the ball from just above the halfway line right into the goals! This is just one of the reasons she earned the 'Best Player' award. Grace from the Reds breaches the opposition defence line and almost scores for her team. It was around this point when everyone was starting to look tired, but that didn't stop them. Layla scored two goals in quick succession, followed by Bonnie shortly after. Layla scores her final goal and secures the win for Strath White. A great game to watch!

Stirling Districts Soccer Club (0) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (2)

The sun and the smiles came out as these two teams faced each other for the second time this season. The Stirling District team were down three players, so Mount Barker helped out and allowed for the game to be played as 10 on 10.

Stirling District started strong, making many shots for goals, but to no avail as they just never quite met the mark. In her first time in the goals En was able to hold off the shots at goals that were coming in thick and fast from Mount Barker - taking extraordinary measures to ensure that the ball never made it pass the goal line.

As the second half started the tired Stirling team found their defensive play more challenging and two goals made it through in quite close succession. The girls did not let this dampen their spirits as they kept the ball moving through their half of the pitch - making so many shots at goals that the parents were holding their breath so often it was surprising they didn't turn blue.

As always, the grateful Stirling side left the ptich to the sounds of clapping and were proud of their best team effort this season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (0) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (3)

Match Report 15 August, 2020

On Saturday, 15 August, 2020 at 1.30pm the Hahndorf Magpies U13 Girls competed against the Torrens Valley Rams.  The match was played at Birdwood Park where recent rain had soaked the pitch, leaving the surface extremely wet and muddy.  After Hahndorf won the toss, the first half of the match was filled with many attempts at goal by both teams.  Hahndorf’s, Gracie Curtis and Grace Haynes began the campaign to score a goal, but unfortunately their attempts were not converted, leaving the scoreboard with a 0-0 result at half time.

Torrens Valley Rams kicked off the second half of the match with a strong, attack game plan, however they were initially left scoreless due to Hahndorf’s Charlotte Fairley’s superior goal keeping skills, fending off one attempt that was kicked long and high.  Hahndorf’s defence line worked tirelessly to keep Torrens Valley Rams scoreless but, eventually they broke through and scored three goals in quick succession.  While there was a couple of late attack attempts from Hahndorf, the final score was 3-0 to Torrens Valley Rams.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (1) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (6)

The match started on a high, where all girls were keen to play and ready to go. Woodside kicked the game off start a smashing start, moving forward ready to take on the defence but Murray Bridge’s defence were at the ready with a quick turn around and taking on Woodside’s keeper in a few shift movements. Woodside’s keeper was on the ball and ensured her defence line were there to play smart also and regained possession after Murray Bridge were caught offside. With this turn over, Woodside weren’t taking any chances and took the opportunity with everything they had. It certainly paid off, as Woodside’s forward player Abigayle Murphy scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute. Murray Bridge didn’t let Woodside take in the win for too long as they then scored their first goal of the game only a minute after. The pressure was certainly on.

Half time saw Murray Bridge raring to go and proceeded to continue with the momentum and soon scored a couple of more goals, leaving Woodside’s defence on guard. Play continued to lean in Murray Bridge’s favour and played an excellent game in the forward line.

Well done to all the girls, they certainly played with all they had.  Thank you to the supporters, ref, lines men and ground stewards for all their work.
