Match Report Semi Final Cup 28/8/19 6.30pm

Stirling United Vs Strathalbyn Red

A cold a frosty evening started with pace as both teams showed a desire for a place in the Final.

Strath had Stirling on the go from the start and made many promising runs to their star #9, who showed pace and promise from the get go. Stirling got the message loud and clear that this wasn’t going to be a Wednesday night training session and started to show their pressure on the ball.

The goal tally opened up to Araby Phelan in the 10th minute with a chip in from Leigh, a 2nd soon followed at 15 minutes gone and then another for Leigh in the 16th after a blinding run and cross over combo from Leigh to K.Henry and back to Leigh for a stunning shot to the back of the net.

The game settled and to a good show of challenges from both teams and end to end battles, a handball from Strath in the 33rd minute gave Nik Smith the opportunity he has been looking for all night, slotted neatly in the back of the net to finish the half 4:0 up.

The 2nd half began fast and furious and Stirling peppered the Strath goal with multiple shots, save and hits of the crossbar before a 5th goal to United was slammed in with his left again, racking up his 50th for the season. Monaghan got in on the action and had a sublime run down the right to volley in from 20m out into the top corner.

Strath rallied a decent attack and had a few chances running direct at goal, and a slip from defence and the keeper lead to an open goal for their number #9 – cheers all round for an opportunity well taken.

Stirling went on the attack again and had goals from Phelan, Monaghan, Leigh and a stunning volley from Smith all finishing off the game for a place in the Final.

A great display from both teams, Strath held strong to the end but were not able to match the unbeaten United for this year. Final Score Stirling United 10: 1 Strath.
