Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club

Turned out to be a lovely morning for a game of soccer over in Birdwood today. The rain stayed away and the Warriors continued to impress .

There was a fair bit of bunching around the ball from both teams but the small size of the pitch had a lot to do with that I think .

Goals today - Quinn Klein 1 , Bastian French 1 , Laughlin Smith 2 .

Oliver Jones and Daniel Farnam both came so close to scoring today which was exciting to watch .
Once again Under 8 Reds looked like a well oiled machine working together, sharing the ball and passing like professionals .

Sorry no pictures were taken this week .

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club

The forecast rain thankfully held off for Hahndorf under 8’s third match of the season against Stirling Districts. With only seven squad members available and no opportunity to rest players, the Hahndorf team fought hard all day against a hard running Stirling side.

Owen Hoyle was the first Hahndorf player to take the offensive, shortly followed by an unsuccessful shot at goal by Josh Pettitt in the opening minutes. Stirling then controlled much of the play with Indie Dunning kept busy as goalkeeper and doing a great job to save numerous scoring shots. Hoyle, Oliver Knight and Joshua Blain worked hard in the midfield, defending the opposition attacks and pushing the ball forward. Knight also had a great shot at goal, which was unlucky not to be rewarded. Soren Mickan ran tirelessly all over the field to help out his team mates and take up the attack. Despite the valiant effort of Hahndorf’s defence, including Carter Hartley, Stirling scored the first goal of the game just before half time.

The second half started with a penetrating kick from Blain to restart Hahndorf’s attack. Mickan took on the goalkeeper role and made a number of impressive goal saves, although the team missed his run through the midfield. Stirling scored in the first few minutes and then again shortly after. Knight continued to work hard to bring the ball forward and Pettitt had another two shots at goal, but could not convert. Stirling scored another two goals before the final siren.

It was a tough contest played with great spirit.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc

Hahndorf defeated Strathalbyn in an exciting game that saw Hahndorf strongly lead for both halves. Lucca Falvo Lopez was a strong forward player for Hahndorf scoring a winning four goals. Lachlan Gardner and Caleb Earley, also scored a goal each. Strathalbyn’s goal keeper worked hard stopping goal after goal and their team kept running up and down the wings leading and calling for the ball. However, Hahndorf’s defence was strong with Zack Perkins and Rowan Gilroy turning the ball around and moving it forward for more goals to be won. Jhett Frost was out of goals in the second half and back in the thick of the action. There were some great passes executed well by Hahndorf, with Hugo Curtis passing the ball to Earley who then successfully scored Hahndorf's sixth goal for the win.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White

Round 3 looked like it might be a wet day for the U9 Blue Team at Aldgate however we were lucky to miss all the rain.  The program saw us meet our opponents from last week Stirling Districts Football Club White who won convincingly, but our team figured they knew all their tricks now and were up for the challenge.

The Woodside team came out hard and scored their first goal of the season with all players helping out and Eli Ambrose putting in the final kick.  The boys continued to do well but the Stiling players managed to kick 3 goals in the first half.  Our goalie for the half, Tyler Herrmann did an awesome job of keeping the score that low along with his trusty defenders, special mention to Calum Magee who played outstandingly in defence.

The second half saw Lucas in goals and the Stirling team really stepped up the pace.  Our defenders worked hard, and with Lucas working his magic with lots of dives and catches to protect our goals but the end result saw Stirling walk away with a win.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Hahndorf Soccer Club White

Both teams were a player short this week which meant the teams had a bit more work to do on the pitch. From the start Hahndorf were strong and made us work for the ball. We tried hard to break through their defence but they were very strong and they had several attempts for goal. Samuel worked hard in goals in the first half and managed to stop each attempt. The second half Hahndorf managed to sneak a goal past us and that gave them to boost they needed. We kept up with our defence but the ball got away from us a couple of times. Well done team for your fighting spirit and not giving up.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red

The match was off to a quick start with Woodside making the first attempt, well saved by Benjamin Kowald.

This resulted in a quick response from Hahndorf, with Thomas Gould breaking out of the pack, to run through for an attempt at goal, but sadly a miss.

The corner shot from Hahndorf, saw some great passing by Hahndorf that lead to another shot on goals by Connor Ozolins, unfortunately he didn’t convert.

Hahndorf did a great job at defending and intercepting, the next big play came from Ozolins, Cohen Whinfield and Gould, with a run through the middle, some strong passing and Whinfield took this shot for goals and sadly with missed.  Intense pressure from Hahndorf!

The shots on goals continued, but were unfortunately not converted when Simran Singh made a strong pass to Gould who made the next attempt, the Woodside goalie did a great job stopping a strong shot.

Woodside were then able to make a run and shoot for goals, which was strongly defended by the Hahndorf goalie, not letting it through.

Our kick out then saw Ozolins, take strong possession of the ball, running through multiple Woodside players, take a shot on goals that was defended well by Woodside.

The sequence of play was hard fought, with much pressure from both sides, Gould and Josh Petitt combined well for some good passing and team play. Hahndorf taking a number of shots, that were quickly returned out into play by Woodside.   Woodside also managing to take the ball almost to their end, before some strong intercepting saw their run come to an end.

Our first successful goal was just after half time,  made by Whinfield, who was in the clear, took the shot and made the goal!

The half time break saw both teams come out strong, Woodside pushed hard, finding some strong form. Singh managed to get the ball clear, make a run and took a shot with his left foot on goal, unfortunately off target but a great shot with his non-preferred foot.

Another run on of goals followed, Ozolins, shot but missed. Archie Green made a fantastic intercept, passing to Ozolins again who shot but missed by the smallest of margins. Whinfield then took another shot, which was well defended by Woodside.

Teams then experienced some midfield congestion as both teams dug deep to win possession.

Green really shone through again, strong intercept from him, with a pass to Gould, who cleared, ran on, controlled the ball well, took the shot and scored.  A well placed goal.

As time was quickly running out, Hahndorf made their next move with Singh clearing the ball out, passed well to Gould, who again was in the clear, out the back of the pack, he ran on, lined up and kicked his second goal of the match.

Woodside put on a strong effort, the match was hard fought by all players.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Stirling United Soccer Club

The weather was forecast for rain and thunderstorms but the only storm today was the Hahndorf U10 White team taking control of the ball quickly out of centre with Joel Bateman's great ball skills and finding the net for the 1st goal.  Hahndorf once again quickly took the ball off Stirling United with Will Tully and Jensen Ingram in attack and found Bateman to kick his 2nd goal.  Stirling United went in attack and had their first attempt at goal but a nice save by Harry Woods, Hahndorf's Goalkeeper.  Hahndorf's defence was Lawson Shotton, Billy Cook and Thomas Stapleton were making it hard for Stirling United to go into attack.  Hahndorf had another attempt with Ingram showing his fancy feet with the ball and kicking the ball into the net for his 1st goal.  After half time we saw Hahndorf attackers Stapleton, Cook and Woods bring the ball forward and attempted to kick the ball into the net but Stirling United Goalkeeper deflected the ball away in a result of a corner for Hahndorf.  Woods took the corner but Stirling United defence took control of the ball and went towards their forward.  With an attempt at goals Hahndorf's Goalkeeper Shotton made a nice save and quickly got it out of defence with Tully.  Stirling United were strong in attack and tried again at goals but unfortunately Shotton saved it again.  Hahndorf again got it out of defence and Hahndorf forward Stapleton controlled the ball and attempted a kick at goals but again the Stirling United Goalkeeper blocked it.  It was a strong performance by both teams and the second half showed both teams having attempts at goals, defence making it hard for the attackers and showing good sportsmanship throughout the game.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club

The Woodside Warriors U10 Reds played a fantastic game on the 11th of July against Torrens Valley. It was a great display of teamwork and perseverance by the kids as we faced a strong Torrens Valley team with plenty of subs and we had to draft in Fletcher's little brother to make up 7!

The game started well with most of the play in our attacking half, with Maggie, Alice and Charlie working well in the front line to set up numerous opportunities on goal. Their hard work was rewarded 10 minutes in with an excellent goal from Charlie ably assisted by the rest of the team. Following the goal, Torrens Valley stepped up the intensity and pushed deep into our defensive half testing Ky at goals from which he made some excellent saves. Just before half time Torrens Valley scored an equalizer going into halftime with scores 1-1.

The second half saw a change of positions and another excellent display of teamwork, with most of the play in our attacking half. THe new forward combination of Eli, Alice, Ky and Charlie had several chances on goal but none getting past the Torrens Valley keeper. It was not until the 7th minute of the half that an excellent shot from the halfway line from Fletcher scored a goal to put us up by one goal. Torrens Valley really lifted in the last 5 minutes and managed to score a goal, ending the game as a draw 2-2.

Overall it was a brilliant match, all played well and displayed excellent sportsmanship. Well done everybody. Special thanks to Oliver for stepping up and playing for us and Fletcher's Dad for refereeing.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (0) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (3)

While many woke up to rain by the time the team met at Anembo Park the rain had stopped. The clouds were grey but the teams spirit certainly wasn’t.

The players from both teams got into action quickly after the first kick off. The ball was heading to Mt Barkers end when Pepe Zahra made a good save. Copper Liddle sprang into action and ran the ball down closer to Hahndorfs end however Mt Barker were able to reverse that.

In fast action Mt Barker had two quick attempts on goal with Hahndorfs goalie, Blane Balcom, managing the save both times. He was unlucky when shortly after Mt Barker snuck in a sneaky goal for the first of the game.

Liddle had control of the ball and passed to Toby Perkins for a shot on goal but he wasn’t able to convert to a score. The ball reached Mt Barkers end with a solid goal being slotted through.

Half time saw the team fuel up on Oranges and with some further direction and encouragement from the coach they were ready for the second half.

Zack Schwarz kicked the ball out from centre finding Liam Sickerdick and with some quick footwork and team effort they were looking for their first goal. Perkins had an attempt on goal but Mt Barkers goalie was able to make the save.

Joash Ng and Luca Cannavo put some good pressure on Mt Barker to keep the ball in play for Hahndorf.

Jett Zahra was kept busy in goals making some good saves. Mt Barker got one last ball through for the final result Hahndorf 0 – Mt Barker 3. Thank you to Zoe York and Oliver Dahmke for filling in for our team and doing a great job. Well done to all players and thank you to the umpire.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (6) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (2)

With the rainclouds parting and the sun shining, every player and parent breathed a sigh of relief, this was going to be a fast-paced, frenetic competition between Woodside Red and Woodside Blue.

From the referee’s first whistle the game was on and Woodside Reds showed why they are sitting in the top half of the table.  The pace was cracking, and the Reds midfielders and strikers were turning the Woodside Blues defence inside out.

M.Burroughes and J.Lunnon were wresting for the ball in the middle whilst newcomer J.Mewett was stepping into the fray wherever he could, O.Boerth in right defence was shutting down attack from the wing. Against the run of play, W.Limbert managed to sweep the ball up the wing to M.Olsson who fed S.Cotton, who expertly put it past the keeper at close range for Blues’ first. The celebrations did not last long with yet another great attack by the Reds midfield and a great pass finding the Reds dangerman J.Constable, who easily slotted home Red’s equaliser after outrunning two Blues defenders – it was game on.

The first half was a constant flurry of breaks and missed opportunities from the Reds, with the blues being run off their feet and having to defend. Blues had a scare when a Reds player ran free and scored only for it to be ruled offside. Near the end of the half the Blues managed to counter attack and M.Davis managed to squeeze the ball into the back of the net in a goal mouth scramble and off of the Reds keeper A.Vassos.

The second half got under way with position changes from both sides, this was turning out to be a great tussle between the two Woodside Warriors teams and it could quite easily go either way. It took only a few minutes before D.Silvestri managed to use his height to cause problems from a Blues corner fed in by R.Sutton. The Reds keeper A.Vassos made a fantastic athletic first save only for D. Silvestri to poke in the goal. Like the first half the Reds came back with pressure and with a jigging run by R.Nambier he used the outside of the foot to put it past M.Olsson in goal for the Blues.

All of a sudden, the Blues were waking up to the power and speed of the Reds and started to find another gear, E.Moylan was now in the midfield role and was running hard everywhere and feeding goals upfront. In the space of 10 minutes the Blues managed to counter attack and put away three more goals one to S.Cotton and two to R.Sutton with R.Sutton smashing a lob from outside of the box to go into the top left-hand corner. With the game now seemingly out of reach for the Reds, they still kept attacking with man of the match W.Limbert being instrumental in holding their strikers away and feeding the ball up the pitch to either B.Bevan who had a couple of shots on goal after great assists from teammates, and to P.Thomas who was running the left wing and popping in the middle. It was on one of these runs that P.Thomas came very close to scoring her first goal, with every Blues parent willing the ball to find the net. Reds and Blues were evenly matched for this competition and though Blues ended up victorious both teams learnt something from each other today - what a great game of football to watch. Warriors Blue are wearing white shirts in attached photos.

Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (3) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (0)

A cool and overcast day greated both teams at Anembo Park. Mount Barker were riding high after their first win of the season the previous week. Hahndorf Black were hungry to get their first win for the season and get some points on the ladder. A crowd of around 60 parents and supporters were in attendance to see both teams compete.

The game started with both teams settling in, passing the ball well. Hahndorf chose to deploy a deep, straight defensive line which allowed room for the Mount Barker forwards and midfielders to press forward. Mount Barker were dominating possession and field position. Mount Barker centre midfielders Rupert Curran and Remarni Puiatti were controlling the ball well and providing good service to their strikers. With weight of possession and field position, it wasn't long before Mount Barker opened their account. A good ball was fed to Mount Barker striker, Archer Hawkins. With a good turn of pace and a damaging run,  Archer eluded his defender and accurately shot on target past the Hahndorf keeper.

At the 10min mark, Mount Baker were up 1-0

The game now swayed, however, Mount Barker held better shape and dominated possession of the ball. Wide midfielders Sopia Canova and Jonty Burzacott consistently found space and delivered the ball forwarded. They were ably supported by their defensive team-mates, Jamison Henke, Colin Paterson, Henry Main and Kael Sander who were allowed to press deep into the Hahndorf half and add numbers to the midfield

With weight of possession and field position, Mount Barker striker Archer Hawkins again found himself in space, left of the goals. A good strike was well directed and at the 26min mark, Mount Barker were up 2-0.

The second half started similar to the first with both teams pressing in attack. Possession often changed hands however, Mount Barker were the quicker team to settle into their structure. Mount Barkers twin striker combination of Liam Dunn and Archer Hawkins consistently threatened the goals but the Hahndorf backline held firm. A dashing run by centre mid-fielder Remarni Puiatti was rewarded with a goal, however was ruled off-side by the Assistant Referee. This seemed to fire up the Mount Barker team who were hungry to close out the game. Mount Barkers other centre mid-fielder, Rupert Curran was running freely. His pace was too good for the Hahndorf defence and he found space down the middle and calmly claimed his first goal of the season at the 50mins mark

With only 10mins remaining Mount Barker threatened to pile on the goals however Hahndorf's defensive line held strong. Archer Hawkins was keen to score a hat-trick however was denied by the Hahndorf goalkeeper who had a great game

At full time, the final score remained 3-0 to Mount Barker. This is now consecutive wins for Mount Barker which will boost their confidence heading into their Round 4 match against Stirling United. Hahndorf Black were gallant in defeat and can hold their heads high. Both coaches agreed the game was played in good spirits and was entertaining to watch.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold (1) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (3)

Woodside Warriors U12 Gold hosted ladder leaders Stirling Districts White for the early match on Saturday Morning. The visitors had racked up 20 goals in their previous two encounters and the hosts knew they would have to play their best to stay in touch with their older opponents. But if they were daunted, they didn’t show it!

Right from the outset this was a tight contest. Stirling attacked for long periods, but were repelled time and again by the hard-working, well-disciplined defensive line – who maintained their structure under constant pressure. Eventually Districts did manage to find the net with a hard-fought goal through heavy traffic. But The young Warriors responded quickly – driving the ball forward into space and finishing with a neat-as-a-pin shot past the keeper. When the ref blew his whistle for half time, the scorecard read 1 – 1 and the match was anyone’s for the taking.

When the sides returned from the break, the game rolled on at a frenetic pace. And with no bench players for either side, the 42 little legs on the pitch seemed to become gradually heavier… and slower. For the Woodside players, this was the first time that any one of them had played a full 60 minutes. But not one of them allowed fatigue to be an excuse. They stood up and worked! Every time Stirling pushed forward for the goals, they were met by a wall of Red and Blue. And instead of rushing the ball, the Warriors defended with discipline and patience. They stalked their prey like a tiger, pounced when their prey made an error and cleared the ball to safety. But Stirling White are a tenacious bunch. They kept hacking forward, stealing their way into the six yard box on multiple occasions. On two of these entries, they managed to steer a ricocheting ball into the net to seal a well-earned 3 – 1 victory.

Both teams are to be commended on an outstanding match played in the true spirit of football.

MATCH REPORT

It was a cool and overcast morning when Hahndorf Under 12 White hosted Rangers Under 12. In typical form, Hahndorf commenced with a strong attack. Hayden Lien, Emlyn Gilroy and Levi Beesley were suitably aggressive strikers. Harrison Gould, Jacob Gardner and Oliver Dahmke pushed forward to support the attack. Captain Jasper Jones, Zoe York, Dante Man and Patrick Hinze spread across defence with Reilly Bowden in goals. Within the opening minutes good teamwork saw Hahndorf’s first attempt on goal. Rangers retaliated rapidly and the first goal was conceded. Hahndorf responded with considerable pressure on Rangers goal. Ryder Hill was then brought on to substitute for Gilroy and Harry Mumford for Dahmke.

Good pressure by Hahndorf with some beautiful passing from York to Hinze to Hill resulting in a corner and subsequent pressure on the Rangers’ goal. Another goal was conceded quickly followed by a great attempt at scoring by Hill.

Rangers retaliated, resulting in a good save by Bowden and some impressive ball control by Jones. Although usually found in defence, Mumford moving to midfield provided a great payoff for the team with some great passing and an elegant goal. Pressure on the Rangers goal continued, including excellent defensive work by Hinze to keep the ball in the attacking half.

Hahndorf defence demonstrated good understanding of the offside rule with great strategies shown by Man and Jones. Hahndorf responded fiercely and an unfortunate handball just outside box in attack was quickly overcome. Another goal was skilfully gained by Hahndorf.

York worked hard and consistently cleared the ball well. Bowden successfully caught those that passed her. Hahndorf responded strongly with two attempts, one by Dahmke. At half time, two goals apiece!

Coming back after half-time saw Gould, Hill and Man take to the pitch as strikers. Bowden, Gilroy and Beesley followed as midfielders. Jones, York, Mumford and Dahmke filled out the defence with Lien in goals. Once again, Hahndorf started with a strong attack with Gould scoring a goal. Rangers were keen to return fire and were thwarted in their attempts with a great clearing kick from York. As the half progressed, Rangers were awarded a free kick which was skilfully saved by Lien. Rangers came back from this with renewed fire and four goals were conceded by Hahndorf. Dahmke and York were substituted off and replaced by Hinze and Gardner.

Good work by Bowden in midfield and a well-executed throw-in from Beesley. Hinze and Jones demonstrated some good skills in defence with increased confidence. From a coaching perspective, exceptional team work with Man passing to Gilroy passing to Hill scoring a goal was a highlight of the match.

Relishing his time in midfield Gardner played defensively as needed which included a great clearing kick. Man continued to demonstrate excellent tenacity and communication, earning him best player.

Unfortunately an own-goal was conceded, however, it was quickly followed by an impressive, leaping save from Lien. More great communication followed which lead to Gould scoring another goal.

Final game score was Rangers 7 to Hahndorf 4. There has been a goal discrepancy and we are working to resolve the issue with AHJSA, we will always defer to our referee. Some useful learnings and improvements to communication were demonstrated in this match suggesting an exciting season ahead. Hahndorf Under 12 White wish to thank Rangers Under 12 for the game played Saturday 11 June 2020.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (5) vs Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (3)

This is the first time that the Woodside Warriors Blue had an opportunity to compete against Blackwood as they joined the association this year.

Blackwood started off the stronger team playing a brand of soccer that had the Woodside team on the defence from the start. With a tall speedy forward line the much smaller Woodside defenders were working hard to block Blackwood's forwards. Both teams however settled into their style of play and after a Woodside shot on goal was saved, a long ball from their keeper had Blackwood breaking through the Woodside defensive line and slotting the ball home to start their account for the day. For the third week in a row Woodside was behind and this added motivation again and inspired them to lift their game. Woodside started to make opportunities but were denied by good keeping, scrambling defence and once or twice by the woodwork. Blackwood also had their opportunities and as the first half was nearing its finish they again broke through the Woodside defence and slotted a second goal home. For the first time this season the Warriors went into half time behind on the score board, Woodside 0 Blackwood 2.

A much more motivated Woodside team took to the field in the second half, while the score line had them down, their brand of football was starting to show. As the whistle blew to start the second half, the Warriors' parents and coach waited for them to unleash the style of football that they have enjoyed watching over the past two games. The Warrior crowd did not have to wait long and after some good passages of play a Woodside player found themselves with some time in front of the goal and connected with the back of the net. This was the spark that the Warriors needed and their midfield slowly took control of the game. Passes were finding team mates and players were running in support and all of this contributed to more scoring opportunities for Woodside. The Woodside wingers were being supplied balls that split the Blackwood defence, allowing them to get behind their opponents and put balls into the box. Time and again this happened but near misses and good defence resulted in no addition to the score. Finally a cross made it into the box where a waiting team mate hammered one home. Blackwood however continued to defend well but the ball seemed to be stuck in Woodside's attacking third after a number of corners one finally managed to find a waiting Warrior who slotted the ball into the back of the net. Blackwood were not going to let this game slip and tightened their defence and started to apply pressure to the Woodside defence, long balls were starting to again put the Woodside defence under pressure and a number of well timed runs off his line by the keeper stopped Blackwood's attack. But something had to give and Blackwood again found the net making this a three all game with only 15 minutes left of the half. Woodside found another gear and with good ball movement across the field, found Blackwoods defence scrambling as a Warrior found himself with time and space to score Woodside's fourth. The home team continued to apply pressure with runs at their opponents, but good defending by Blackwood made finding a fifth difficult for the Warriors. Then in the middle of an attack a Warrior found himself at the top of the 18 yard box with a little bit of room, after taking on a couple of opponents he found himself one on one with the keeper and keeping his composure slotted Woodside's fifth and final goal for the day home. Full credit to Blackwood, now two goals down, they continued to press and put pressure on Woodside, but the home team had found its rhythm and composure and repelled their opponent's advances cleverly clearing the ball and moving it down the other end to put pressure on the Blackwood defence. The game finished 5:3 in Woodside's favour but their Blackwood opponents should be commended for their sportsmanship and commitment. They made Woodside dig deep to get a result, something no other club has managed yet to do to them this season.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (6*)

Well done to the Woodside Reds today who played a very experienced, older and organized Stirling districts. Our inexperience showed through and it is easy to feel that we did not play well. These types of games though are a great way to think about why we lost, and how we can improve our games into the future. We have to remember we have only played 3 games together! Our lack of confidence saw us making silly mistakes with slow passes that were easily intercepted, and our long balls were often straight to the Stirling players. These are areas we will work on and improve as we find our positions and abilities. On thinking about it, my coaching error was to play too many people in defence which constantly brings the ball back to where the players are. We will work on different formations over the next weeks.

Several people shone through in the difficulty. Cooper played an outstanding game in centre defence despite it not being an ideal first game to try the position. Cohen marked out their number 9 (who was able to score from a corner!) and slowed their attack dramatically. Bob worked hard in defence and coupled with Riley kept their attack working hard. Sam got into some tough tackles and fed some nice passes through to the attacking midfield. George also provided some strength in centre defence in the beginning before trying his hand at left midfield. Lysiane did some hard pushing and had a few perfectly placed forward passes. Manny was creative in attack during the first half, before experiencing right defence for the first time! His reading of the play and courage against some big opponents, coupled with his greatly place passes earnt him player of the match. Ryan didn’t get chances on goal as he was marked out by 3 players! Flynn played some beautiful balls up the left wing.

Special mentions again go to Riley T and Banjo who both did some outstanding keeping, and experiences like today only see them improving with the practice under pressure! It was great to see that there were several times we did talk, space and pass that threw them a little ... if we keep learning to do this we will only get stronger!  I was really happy that everybody kept their heads up and did not give up.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (2) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (8)

Two highly skilled and enthusiastic Hills teams met at the Hahndorf home ground for a midday match today. Hahndorf started the game strong with James Austin scoring the first goal for the day. Julian Hack and Austin worked well together to keep the ball at the Hahndorf end of the pitch and made further attempts for goal.

Mt Barker fired back and caused William Whiting, Orland Rettig and Gabe Aylen to run hard and fast to defend the ball. Matthew Knight provided great defensive skills and big kicks against the Mt Barker Reds. All these boys must have clocked up many kilometres during this game.

Thomas Boekel was a star in goalie, with his fast actions, dives and jumps, stopping many balls hitting the back of the net. Ruby Tully and Grace Hughes were new to the team this week but provided great defensive skills and settled into the game and the team perfectly.

Harry Williams then scored a great 2nd goal for Hahndorf just before the rain started hammering down.

After halftime Zoe York, Emilyn Gilroy and Hayden Lien produced great footwork and ball skills to keep the game fast and action packed.

Stefan Panich, Angus McCrone and Hamish Robinson played well throughout the game, holding their positions and competitors in place. It was really great to watch and cheer on. The final score doesn't really reflect how competitive the game was.

Well done to both teams and all the players. Big thanks to all our fill in players! We look forward to our next game against you Mt Barker.

U16

Stirling United Soccer Club (2) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (1)

The round 3 U16 match between Rangers and Stirling United kicked off in chilly and slightly damp conditions at Ashton Oval. Stirling United, still recovering from a bruising encounter with Hahndorf last weekend, could only manage to field 10 players for the match. The first quarter of an hour saw the ball go back and forth between the midfields, before the first real chance came from a nice cross from Toby Leigh, followed by a shot from Henry Monaghan that went just wide. Shortly after, a nicely controlled header from Tom Harris allowed Monaghan to cut inside and strike a lovely shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner to give Stirling the lead.

Rangers quickly countered with their best chance of the match so far, but the Stirling defence managed to close it down. Stirling central defender Emily Bouchereau, playing against her old side for the first time, made a spirited run through the centre of the field, getting past multiple defenders before a final challenge from Rangers prevented her scoring with the ball going behind. Jye Shore placed the resulting corner perfectly, allowing Harris to tickle the ball into the goal with his left foot, leaving Stirling with a two goal lead going in to half time.

Rangers returned to the field with renewed purpose, driving forward from the kick off and drawing an immediate save from Lachlan Stein in goal for Stirling. After some end to end play, a brilliant through ball from midfield allowed Riley Smith to take the ball and find the back of the net with a lovely finish. Rangers continued to press, with Joseph Bellamy having another big chance but his shot went over the top. Stirling United managed to get some control of the game back in the latter stages, and despite obviously tiring, held on in a tight match to win 2-1.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (0) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (3)

It's amazing how much of an impact one player can have on a game. This doesn't overlook the efforts from everyone else, but simply suggests that the outcome of a game would have been completely different if that person wasn't there. This was clearly evident in Saturday morning's U16 match-up between Woodside and Murray Bridge.

Given the wet weekend forecast the weather was surprisingly pleasant. Murray Bridge's grounds don't seem to vary in condition, particularly with the amount of games played there. Excess rain doesn't pool and excess wear doesn't seem to phase the grass.

With that said it had been a few years since this particular Woodside team had played there. Last year's Woodside team had seen a Murray Bridge team in a grading round game, but it was played on their turf. Memories of that match were a bit vague, but Murray Bridge seemed to have retained a few players from then.

The match kicked off at 10am with no preconceived expectation of outcome. Woodside were expecting Murray Bridge to be strong. Murray Bridge were unsure about what Woodside would bring. Both teams peppered strikes at the opposing keeper, often metres off target. For the first 20 minutes of the first half it was very much in Murray Bridge's control, whilst the second 20 minutes saw much more of a balance between the two of them. A 0-0 scoreline at half time wasn't surprising.

The second half saw Woodside utilise the pitch's slope to their advantage and held control of play for the first 20 minutes. Despite Woodside's attempts Murray Bridge's keeper was too good. The confident and animated AHJSA U15 Rep Keeper JAYDEN VOKES made the world of difference for his home side. Whilst he's unlikely to get too many opportunities to score he should be proud of his efforts in preventing goals.

Woodside's centre-back, MASON DUNOW, played a very important part in the game too. This wasn't realised until he brought himself off with concussion after a solid impact with the ball. It was unfortunate as Woodside had no substitutes to replace him with. Mason's importance was highlighted once he was off the pitch, with Murray Bridge slotting in three goals in the last 20 minutes of play, ending the game 3-0 in their favour.

"Despite the outcome both team's efforts were outstanding, leaving everything on the pitch and nothing in the tank", suggested Woodside Coach BRUCE TONKIN. "The on-pitch relationship between the players was impressive as well, with both teams avoiding the physicality seen too often in this division."

The next round will see Woodside meet Hahndorf at Woodside, whilst Murray Bridge will travel to Ashton Oval to meet Rangers.

Stirling Districts Soccer Club (6) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (2)

There was a buzz of excitement for the Stirling District team when they realised for once they would be able to play with a full team! Both teams agreed on playing 10 a side as Mount Barker had many team members away for the holidays. With two players eagerly waiting to get onto the field the Stirling District team took charge early on in the game and scored their first goal (for the season) at 3 minutes into the game. This was such an exciting moment for Charlotte Langley as she was able to get a clear path to the goal and took it with confidence. The pace of the game kept moving from there - with much more oportunity for Stirling District to celebrate as another goal was scored in the first half by Polly Harrison in the 26th minute.

The team met at half time celebrating their achievments on the field. Bill talked the girls through their positions and they supported each other through all of their strengths and fears for what the second half of the game would bring. They set out strong with Emma Heinrich taking her first goal in the first minute back in. Mount Barker wasn't going to let the game keep going in Stirling District's strength and scored a powerful goal not long after. The Stirling District team fought back hard and scored three more goals with Hannah Noonan taking her first ever goal!

Great work Stirling Districts for your first win as a team this season!

Hahndorf Soccer Club (0) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6*)

Hahndorf hosted Torrens Valley, U13G at Pine Avenue with an impressive and strong win for the Torrens Valley girls. Torrens Valley played as a united and confident side showing their skill and experience led by Claire Levi playing strong in attack. They had an impenetrable defence with Aimee Hogan and Abbey Tutthill showing off their control of that ball! They won 7/0 but their score would have been greater if it weren’t for the committed defence from Charlotte Fairley as Hahndorf’s goal keeper. Hahndorf never gave up and they fought on with confident defence from Bella Czukli and Grace Haynes and relentless plays from Jade Czukli, Esther Van De Gaer, Lola McKay-Puzo and Gracie Curtis who kept moving that ball away Torrens Valley. There was a great spirit and energy from both teams today - well done!

Stirling Districts (6) vs. Woodside Warriors (0)

Third game of the season hosted by Stirling Districts and another glorious Winter’s day. Kick-off proceeded on time which was perfect timing as the rain stopped before kick off and held off the entire game.

Stirling held possession in their half for the majority of the game, keeping the Warrior’s defence on their toes.

First goal of the game was scored by Stirling in the first six minutes of the game after pushing through Warrior’s strong defence and shooting just inside the box. Only a couple of minutes after kick-off, Stirling turned possession into their half and took another opportunity on goal though Warrior’s goalkeeper was ready and deflected the shot. First corner kick of the game saw a magnificent kick by Stirling’s #6 Ashlyn where the ball sore through the air straight into the top of the goals. Another few goals in saw Warrior’s defence starting to play strong and smart, making it more difficult for Stirling to shoot from inside the box. This strong defence also caught Stirling offside a number of times throughout the game, challenging Stirling.

Half time saw a couple of changes, including Warrior’s goalkeeper Karina whom not only is her first season of soccer but also the first game ever playing goalkeeper.  She did a marvellous job in goals, deflecting a number of shots on goal and applying pressure on Stirling’s forward players. Stirling played a splendid game, working well as a team, coherent and playing a strong forward line. They were humble with their win and congratulated the Warriors on their efforts.  The score didn’t match the amount of effort and spirit that was shown on the pitch today, well done to both teams.

Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (0)

The start of game was again another lovely winters day with the sunshine beaming through with no wind or rain. Making it great for playing and watching this game.

At the start of the game Torrens Valley took control of the ball and passing it down towards the Murray Bridge goal, challenging the Murray Bridge defence. The first goal was scored by Adelaide Williams of Torrens Valley into the back corner of the goal making it hard for the Murray Bridge goalie to prevent it going through. The second goal was a cross pass from Adelaide Williams to Jamie Fahner and kicked into the goals. During the game there were four more goals scored but these two were great crosses. Zara Witter was lightning fast and agile throughout the game passing to all Torrens Valley players.

The Murray Bridge players were not making it easy for the Torrens Valley players throughout the game. It was a fast paced game and very few throw ins most of the game was to and froing from end to end. Everyone showing their fitness and skills.

The Murray Bridge player Angel Cooper (goalie) was showing great skills in defending her area with saving goal tries from Torrens Valley. Some other players that were playing well were Destiny Wall, Caitlin Uttridge-Johanson, Lena Yakas, the other players were also doing well in the Murray Bridge team but the above were under pressure at different times in the game.
