U8

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White

The Hahndorf Under 8’s soccer team put on a brave display on Saturday morning against Stirling. The team was fired up and ready to hit the pitch after a few weeks covid hiatus.

From the outset Hahndorf showed potential with all players working together as a team and defending the persistent Stirling attack. Michael Griggs, Fernando Palma and Brooklyn Rohde forever persistent at keeping on the Stirling attackers, and making them have to work hard.

Hugo Dahmke defended many strikes at goal, but unfortunately one sharp kick making it pass to leave Stirling 1 up at the half time whistle.

The Back line was kept busy for the entire game, with Carter Hartley, Jack Coffey, Jasper Christou and Hamish Glynn provided great defence and consistently worked the ball back to the forward line.

Angus Clifton, Samuel Gardner and Paddy Coffey also showed great support work running the ball back into the Hahndorf forward line.

The 2nd half saw the Hahndorf Magpies remain positive, with Gardner defending the goals.
Stirling dominating the midfield opening up multiple opportunities for strikes at goal.

Our mighty pint sized athletes gave it their all today, noting some Olympic inspiration to keep them going to the final whistle.

Both teams played with great spirit, fun and teamwork.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

What a wonderful game for our U8's on Saturday!  Being able to return to play after the short break saw lots of smiles and excitement on the pitch.  The weather was overcast and cool, but a good day for playing a winter sport.

Both teams had a lot of fun. Thank you to coaches, managers and parents on both sides for supporting them out there!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red

There was excitement in the air for the u9s round 16 clash between Hahndorf and Strathalbyn Red at Strathalbyn! Everyone was happy to be back and playing soccer!

Hahndorf were quick off the mark with the ball being pushed into their forward half. Rowan Gilroy showed precision passing early on, which led to a Hahndorf corner early on. Owen Hoyle also showed some magnificent passing which led to Hahndorf's first goal from Thomas Gould. Hahndorf continued the attack with another shot on goal from Soren Mickan. Hahndorf persisted and found the back of the net again through Gould. Strathalbyn fought hard but Gilroy was strong in defence for Hahndorf, as was Hugo Curtis as Goalkeeper. Levi Neumann was fired up and ended the first half with two quick goals in succession.

In the second half, Hahndorf maintained pressure in the forward half, with Mason Saywell and Oliver Knight strong in the midfield. Great teamwork and passing led to Gilroy scoring a great goal for Hahndorf. Strathalbyn were strong in defence with plenty of shots on goal from Hahndorf from Curtis, Mickan and Knight. Hahndorf showed some great passing and skills which led to their final goal from Neumann just before the end of the game. It was a great team effort from both sides today!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

Welcome back to Saturday soccer! It was great to be back and the kids were excited to be playing again.
The first half of the game was dominated by the Woodside team with some great plays by Bastian French, Quinn Klein and Josiah Ambrose. In the second half Mount Barker found form and came back with enthusiasm. Elliot Stewart, Justin Smith and Samuel Clifford got involved and kept the team organised to fight until the end. An even game by both teams with an even result.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Stirling United Soccer Club

Stirling United U9 versus Woodside Warriors U9 Blue

After an unplanned but mostly welcome mid-winter break Woodside U9 Blue were back in action this weekend and, due to a waterlogged pitch at Aldgate, welcomed Stirling United to the Woodside Rec grounds. In northern Europe some of the more monied clubs spend their winter break in Dubai, enjoying the heat and getting back to match fitness. In stark contrast to this Woodside’s training over the last couple of weeks has ranged from soggy to absolutely soaking, so having a dry and almost warm day for football this Saturday was very welcome.

This was a match that the Warriors were looking forward to, having controlled the game in their previous outing against United. United won the toss and kicked-off but the first half was Woodside’s from the whistle, with the team pushing upfield and creating chances almost straightaway. It didn’t take too long before the pressure began to pay-off, with forward Austin Levy’s well-struck shot finding the net after taking a deflection. Woodside kept pushing and soon had the United keeper beaten by a brace of goals from a rampant Calum Magee. One of those came from lovely bit of team play from Woodside, building from the back then attacking down the left wing before crossing the ball into a dangerous position. The end of the first half seemed to come quickly and Woodside went into the (metaphorical) dressing room with heads held high and a clean sheet for keeper Theo Nicholson.

In preparation for the U10s next year, where coaches are not allowed on the pitch with the kids, Woodside’s coach decided to guide the team from the sidelines for the second half. After the break the Blues continued pushing deep into the Stirling half and managed to get into some great positions but were unlucky with their final ball. As Woodside tired, Stirling began to probe but Woodside defended doggedly, marking their opponents at attacking throw-ins and shutting out everything United could conjure up. This week’s Captain Tommy Garden let almost nothing get past him in defence with some great blocks, and second-half keeper Jock Mills capped-off his clean sheet with a commanding save late in the game.

The Warriors can be proud of their performance in all areas of the pitch this week. The development in the team this season was very much on show with their passing and positioning significantly improved from earlier games and we will be looking for this improvement to continue, even if our talks with unexpected free-agent Leo Messi somehow come off.

U12

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (1) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (0)

The atmosphere at the Warrior’s Fortress early on Saturday morning was a strange one – thick with anticipation for this top of the table clash – but melded with a hint of the surreal, as players and fans emerged from a two week Covid restriction-induced hiatus. Strange it was to look upon a crowd of socially distanced, mask-wearing fanatics. But these thin cloth coverings, designed to withstand viral invasion, were unable to muffle the voices of eager fans who hailed their teams with vigour and vim.

Stirling kicked off proceedings and were quick to demonstrate the prowess that has seen their season flushed with success. They attacked down the wings, wanting to cross into the area to create their chances. But each electrifying run was met with stoic, disciplined defense from the often diminutive, but ever-effective Woodside backs. The poise and courage of the Woodside back four, aided and abetted by their hard-running mates in the midfield was beholdable and immaculate in its effectiveness at keeping the talent of Stirling at bay. And when the Blue and Red appropriated possession of the ball, they valued it – always looking for a teammate to transition the ball forward and maintain possession. Where Stirling were using the flanks to find passage, Woodside were coming wide out of defense before centering the ball as they crossed the halfway. The wing forwards were dynamic, sending their striker through at the woodwork and running-on to provide support. And before long, each of the front three was afforded a genuine chance to stretch the net. These shots sailed just wide or were saved by a keeper in a golden shirt, who’s golden day would become something of an epic. Like Woodside, the White and Blue were also a force in defense. Although Woodside were getting several shots at the onion bag, most raids were being snuffed out by a never-say-die mentality before the Stirling gates. By half-time, Woodside had created more real chances, but the scorers nib was still yet to be dipped in ink.

The status quo remained after the break as both sides fought to gain the ascendancy. Again, Woodside were perhaps edging their opponents on a split decision, but a single strike from either side had the potential to deliver the knockout blow. And after 12 minutes of the second half, the blow came from Woodside. After saving every clean shot on target – there were 11 in total, including a flurry of three in the space of 0.6 seconds – a chipped ball looped tantalisingly out of reach of the full-stretch jump of Stirling’s gloveman. His effort was immense, his execution precise, but he couldn’t force his legs to grow the extra foot that would have been required to save this one. Woodside were up by a goal, but with 18 minutes left on the clock Stirling were backing themselves to come from behind… They’d done it before! Despite being up by a goal, the Warriors continued to attack, searching for a 2 goal buffer. But Stirling Would. Not. Yield! The White and Blue wall redoubled its efforts, while their forwards lifted in intensity to create a frenetic final fifteen minutes. With five to go, Woodside found themselves under unbearable pressure to defend their nest. It was relentless. As Red and Blue clad bodies pushed back to block up the danger zone, they were left without a viable option to clear to, and so Stirling were able to set camp in front of goal and repeatedly send the ball into the penalty area. Time and again Woodside hacked it clear. Time and again it came back with interest. Would Stirling find a gap… Would the ref find an infringement. With two minutes to go, a Stirling win looked off the cards, but a draw was looking more and more likely. Another surge… another clearance… And finally, with one telling kick, another Woodside defender sent the ball into touch and the ref blew his whistle to draw the curtain on proceedings. This final strike on the ball demonstrated with poetic effect that a game of football is decided by each and every member of the team – at both ends of the pitch!

Hahndorf VS Strathalbyn Under 13 match report 7 August 2021

A grey sky minus rain set the mood as Strathalbyn U13s kicked off against Hahndorf’s U13 white team at 12.35pm on Saturday 7th August, 2021 at Hahndorf’s home ground.

Forwards Levi Beesly, Hayden Lien, and Cooper Liddle pushing uphill, launched hard at the opposition resulting in Hahndorf maintaining early control of the ball.  Emlyn Gilroy and Beesley attacked hard and often, allowing Lien to score his first goal 5 minutes after kick off.  Lien followed up with a second goal after a further 4 minutes.

Two minutes later at 12.46 midfielder Lien aided by Will, Whiting and Patrick Hinze punched a goal through to make it 3 goals for Hahndorf.

When Strathalbyn pushed beyond the centre line, defenders Daniel Peters, Lawson Shotton, Ryder Hill, and Chris Haynes worked hard, helping block balls reaching Harry Gould in goals for Hahndorf.

Subs were called at 12.50 with Haynes, Gilroy, Hinze and Whiting being replaced with fresh players, Jacob Gardner, Dante Man, Oli Aylen, and Ben Romaldi.

At one point Hahndorf goalkeeper Gould ran wide to retrieve the ball beyond the goal square; sending it back into play.  Moments later an opportunistic shot at goals by Strathalbyn, saw Gould’s speed and ability tested with a slide-kick that blocked a sure goal for Strathalbyn.

After the half time break, Lien kicked off.   Man was in goals with Gould taking the centre mid position.   With Hahndorf playing downhill they used every opportunity to score.  Fiveteen minutes later Beesley ran the ball in, passing to Gould who gave Hahndorf its 4th goal.   Five minutes further on, Gould drove another goal home.  Within a couple of minutes Gilroy, aided by a great cross from Gould, placed goal 6 home for Hahndorf..

Although not as tall as some goal keepers, Man determinedly deflected and retrieved balls and none slipped through.  Midfielders and defenders, Whiting, Hinze, Shotton,  Peters, Aylen, Romaldi and other supporting team mates went in hard and positioned the ball to the advantage of their team.

At 1.40 Hill positioned himself well and drove goal 7 home for Hahndorf.

A feature of the last half spectators will likely remember, saw Gilroy pass back to Liddle over the heads of the opposition.  Liddle then forwarded the ball to Gould who shot his 3rd goal, giving Hahndorf’s its 8th and final for the match that saw it take out the win.

U13 Div 1

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (5) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club (3)

The players were pleased to get into the game after the hiatus of school holidays and the lockdown restrictions.  Both teams took a few minutes to settle and lift to the pace of the game.

Hahndorf settled first with a great goal in the opening minutes.  Hahndorf controlled it out of defense, then a perfect run-down right wing by Joash Ng, with a precision cross to Jacob Neumann who scored a cracking header for the first team goal.

Stirling United pushed Hahndorf in the first half, and scored one goal, but there were some impressive saves by both goalies.

J Neumann played an exceptional first half scoring four goals in total, the third was his hardest weaving and threading the ball round the Stirling defense.  The youngest of the Neumann boys, Ryley Neumann also scored a strong goal and the scores were 5:1 at half time.

Stirling United came out firing in the second half.  Hahndorf’s defense of Luca Cannavo, Angus Mifsud, Liam Sickerdick, Blane Balcom and Pepe Zahra were put to the test with goalie Diesel Aho making some critical saves under pressure.

Hahndorf’s forwards continued to work hard in the second half, J Ng played a great game running down the wing time and time again. Jet Zahra also dominated this half, hungry to get the ball and creating space.

A highlight for Hahndorf in the second half was a great corner by J Neumann where Henri Bjordal almost scored a header goal, just hitting the cross bar and got the crowd going.

Hahndorf midfield of Oliver Dahmke, Toby Perkins, Logan Maxwell, P Zahra and Bjordal kept working hard for their team all game.

Stirling finished strong winning the second half with two goals, but Hahndorf ran out winners in a tight fought game 5:3.

U15

Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (6) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (2)

Blackwood Forest hosted the Round 16 U15 match vs Mount Barker at their home ground of Springbank Secondary College with kick off at 10am.

Mount Barker presented an organised team who went straight on the offense. They picked a hole in Blackwood’s defence and scored their first goal 10 minutes into the match. The goal against them rustled Blackwood into gear, however the 11 Blackwood shots on goal for the remainder of the first half were either off-target or deftly dealt with by the Mount Barker keeper. Mount Barker’s further attempts were fended off by the Blackwood side, seeing the score line Blackwood nil – Mount Barker 1 at the half time whistle.

The Blackwood team had an early scoring attempt a few minutes into the second half that went wide. The goal kick from Mount Barker was delivered well and the team skilfully ran the ball into their attacking half and past the Blackwood keeper to bring the score 0 – 2. The clouds rolled in bringing with them a drizzle of rain. The change in weather seemed to bring a change in luck for the Blackwood team and their first goal for the match was scored by Elisha S from a corner kick. Mount Barker looked to make it 1 - 3 a minute later however Blackwood keeper, Angus D, made a successful save. Blackwood answered straight back, with Elisha S’s next attempt hitting the post. Within the minute he was on the attack again and his second goal brought the score to 2 all.

The energy of the game lifted at this point and Blackwood’s Austin N scored a further goal for the home team. Possession shifted between the teams for the next 10 minutes, before Mount Barker took control once again. They had 2 further attempts landing wide and high before Blackwood’s on-pitch communication properly switched on and they passed the ball effectively to Liam D who scored the team’s 4th for the match. Mount Barker stepped up again, however their shot on goal was denied by the Blackwood keeper. Blackwood continued to talk to each other and asserted themselves on pitch. With minutes to go Elisha S scored his third for the match and Blackwood’s 5th. This was followed quickly by an attempt from Blackwood’s Ethan V that was deflected by the Mount Barker keeper and finished off by Austin N for the final goal of the match. The final score line: Blackwood 6 – Mount Barker 2

The match was played cleanly and fairly with both teams displaying great sportsmanship.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (3) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (9)

Overview: Both teams evenly spread in both halves of the pitch in the first half, with MT dominant in attack and WW strong in defence. WW-2 / MT-4 at half time. Second half most of the game was played in the WW half pitch which saw MT gain another 5 goals. James, Ryan and Harry work very well up front, Maya strong in the middle, but it wasn't enough today.

Game: First half James was goalkeeper and came out to meet an opposition player with only Ruby hot on his heels, and blocked the shot. He made 3 saves in the first 10 minutes. Maya showed great initiative with accurate and measured control in defence. MT scored in the 12th minute. James appeared well outside of his box to block and clear, but an unmarked opposition scored the second in the 16th minute. Harry 'harried' MT with great tackling while they went wide with multiple shots towards goal. At one point after a long run Maya did a soft back pass to goalie not realising there was opposition directly behind. He tackled but Maya quickly recovered, regained the ball and cleared. Ryan hit a blinder goal in the 37th minute. And another in the 40th. James was faced with a 1-1 and dived to his right to stop a strike on goal, it rebounded and dived to his left to save another kick on goal. Great goalkeeping. He vented some frustration with WW defence and it wasn't a surprise to see him out in the second half.

James was hungry in the second half, and it showed with skilfull tackling and passing. He delivered an accurate pass to Harry from the goal side, who sent it home in the 51st minute. Harry put in a great run only to be tackled by their goalie, who took big risks way off his box that paid off. George and Ruby showed strength and resilience in defence. Banjo in goal was faced with a penalty in the 63rd, he read it right and saved the shot. He went on to save others in the 81st, 82nd and 83rd minutes. However, with most of the game now played in the WW half the pressure was on, and MT scored 5 more goals. Great effort from all.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (8*) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc (2)

A great winter's day welcomed the Warriors U15's back to their home pitch to take on Strathalbyn.  After the break due to Covid, players, coach, manager and parents were happy to be back on the pitch.

Woodside started a little slow, taking their time to find their team play again, but once they found their groove they played well.

Too strong for Strathalbyn today, the Warriors finished with the win.  Well done to all on a game well played from both teams.

U17

Stirling United Soccer Club (4) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (0)

For the final game, Stirling United and Rangers met for the third time this season. Traditionally these games have been tight affairs, with tenacious defence from Rangers providing stiff resistance to Stirling United’s open style of play. In the previous match, it was Rangers who came away with the points, so Stirling were keen to turn the tables this time around.

Stirling started the better, and attacked from the outset. The firmer surface and dry conditions suited their style and allowed them to string passes together and keep control of the play. Rangers remained a danger on the counter attack when they got an opportunity ensuring Stirling’s back line needed to remain alert.

Ky Henry opened the scoring inside ten minutes with a perfectly timed run through the defence and his powerful shot found the back of the net to give Stirling confidence. Rangers repelled attack after attack, and despite a number of corners and shots being taken, Stirling could not extend the lead.

When Rangers had a corner of their own, they threatened to tie up the game but a great save from keeper Lachlan Stein held them out.

In the second half, with Stirling now having the slight downhill advantage, the play was predominantly in their attack. Captain Toby Leigh finished off a lovely play to extend the lead to 2, and when Araby Phelan controlled the ball superbly and cut back onto his trusty left foot to find the goals again just three minutes later Stirling had the game in their keeping. A fourth and final goal from the boot of Henry Monaghan saw Stirling finish the season on a high.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (5) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club (4)

A couple of weeks off the pitch had seemingly minimal impact to the Woodside Warriors. Nor did it seem to make any difference to the Hahndorf team either. This was evident in their confrontation on Saturday 7th August in the 16th round of the AHJFA U17 League.

For both teams there had been no games played since Round 12. Round 13 had been postponed due to wet weather, so July 3rd was the last time results had been entered when Woodside played Rangers. For Hahndorf it goes back even further with a 2-4 loss to Murray Bridge on the 19th of June.

The two teams were bound to be rusty, but there was a whole lot of power under the hood in the two lead engines in this age group. Both had the tank to complete the 80 minute drive and both were aware that their opponents could beat them to the finish line should they relax.

Interestingly they had seen each other twice previously this season. Their first game was the first of the season and was victory for Woodside. It was unfortunate for Hahndorf as the win boosted Woodside for the season ahead. The next time they saw each other was at Woodside, where Hahndorf went home victorious. In both games neither team were ever more than a goal in the lead. The chances of it happening again were low, but would surprise no one should that style of game be repeated.

The football pitch itself was expected to be slow. Weeks of rain made sure everything was soaked. A couple of weeks off certainly helped preserve the pitch. Three quarters of it was playable, however the last quarter, particularly the northern end, was soft. The boys would soon work out the flaws and deal with it accordingly.

The game was managed under the watchful eye of experienced referee Will Tinkler. Traditionally the local referee branch (AHRB) would supply a couple of assistant referees to run the lines for a 1st vs 2nd game. They might also supply a fourth official to oversee any issues. Unfortunately referees were in high demand in this round and all assigned elsewhere.

The game kicked off at 12pm.

From kick off and for the first few minutes of play anyone would have put their bets on the away team scoring first. Hahndorf’s strikers were relentless in their attacks and they were unlucky not to open the scoreline for their team first. Instead Woodside’s forwards scored on the 8th minute. A cross from LACHLAN MOWBRAY to JETT TONKIN at the top of goal square managed to clear the reach of Hahndorf’s keeper, Edward Hardingham, who is possibly the tallest person in the association.

It wasn’t long before Hahndorf equalized as is standard of games between these two teams. A long high ball towards Woodside’s end skimmed the head of one of the defenders and into the path of Hahndorf’s Kyle Fenlon, who was unchallenged in completing the play.

By half time both Hahndorf and Woodside each received a penalty. Both were equally dubious in nature and both resulted in a goal, sending the two teams into the half time break two goals a piece.

After a switch of ends, a couple of light substitutions and a goal keeper replacement for the away team, the second half kicked off with both teams keen to finish the game in their favour.

Hahndorf owned the first goal and took the lead early. Not long after, on the 55th minute, Woodside’s Mowbray adding a second to his tally, a tricky header that impressed all spectators and leveled the scoreline.

Again, Hahndorf took the lead, adding their fourth, an impressive long range goal, well outside of the 18-yard box, clearing Woodside’s keeper. Numerous additional attempts at scoring were quickly shut down by Woodside’s strong defensive line who’s approach was to simply stand in the way of strikes. CASEY GODFREY, IZEYAH RAYMOND, ASHER HAMMAT and JOSH VASSOS were instrumental in preventing goals, often reflecting strikes into the favour of their own team.

By 60th minute, with 20 minutes of play remaining, Tonkin added his second in similar fashion to his first. Someone threaded the gap and he simply added the exclamation mark in the team’s play.

For the next ten minutes it was a head-to-head race for the finish line. Unfortunately for the away team, despite numerous suggestions from both players and supporters of the away team to not leave Mowbray to his own devices, he completed an impressive long range pass from TOBY VINCENT finished it off his head, his second header for the game.

Assistant Coach MATTHEW THODAY made the wise decision to change from a 4-3-3 formation to a 5-3-2 and moved EDDIE HERMAN back into the defensive line to see out the remainder of the game.

As such little happened in the dying minutes and allowed Woodside to end the battle, 5-4 in their favour. Some colourful language by one of the two teams and a yellow handed to a player on the other team were the only two dampeners of the spirited game.

“Woodside have had an unexpectedly successful season thus far”, said Coach BRUCE TONKIN. “With Hahndorf on the back end of their own successful 2020 season it’s great to be able to be a challenge instead of being tucked away in the lower half of the ladder. We’re a concern instead of an easy win.”

LACHLAN MOWBRAY was determined to be best and fairest, whilst JAMES RENSHAW and ISAIAH HAMMAT played a solid game.

Both Woodside and Hahndorf will now travel to Summit Sport & Recreation Park on Friday 13th which is bound to be unlucky for one of them. The following day should see Round 17 where Woodside will host Rangers and Hahndorf will host Strathalbyn, who just managed to outplay Murray Bridge 2-1.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (4) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (5)

The 2021 season has been challenging for all involved in Hills Soccer, so it was good to get back on the park after a Covid enforced hiatus. The Hahndorf team is very appreciative of Coach James Kerr showing his commitment to the team at the time of a family bereavement. We extend our condolences to James, Anita and the Kerr family.

Hahndorf v Woodside had produced two very exciting close games in the season to date with the ledger square at one a piece. Hahndorf, after a loss to Murray Bridge, were needing a win to keep their title hopes alive for the year, so tension was high amongst the players and their supporters.

Unsurprisingly with a lot at stake, the game started as a physical affair with both teams keen to test each other out. Whilst Woodside were able to score a goal within the first ten minutes, neither team had any great ascendancy with the play ebbing and flowing from end of the ground to the other, mid-way through the half, Kyle Fenlon was able to slot home an equaliser from a good team build up.

A 35th minute penalty to Hahndorf saw Xavier Kell give Hahndorf the lead and what would have thought to be a half time lead, only to see Woodside also be given a penalty in the 40th minute, which despite goalie, Eddie Hardingham, getting a hand to it, it wasn’t enough to stop the goal and a 2-2 halftime score line.

The second half mirrored the first half with both teams sharing an equal amount of possession. A free kick to Hahndorf just outside of the box, saw Kane Gibbs slot the ball into the top corner of the net from what was a sublime strike to see Hahndorf go ahead once more.

Despite some outstanding defensive efforts from Josh Rayner, David Nielsen, Tyler Weyland and Oliver Thorpe (in his first game back since breaking his arm in the opening round) mid-way through the half, Woodside was able to grab two goals in quick succession, with due credit to the heading skills of the Woodside team.

With an ominous looking score line, Hahndorf were going to need something special to stay in the game, and so it was that within minutes of Woodside taking the lead, Gibbs, perhaps with Jurasalem bells ringing in his head, slotted home his second goal from long range. A better goal at any level of soccer would be hard to find, quite brilliant.

Coach Kerr had the luxury of four substitute players for the game and the injection of Stefan Panich, Alexander Romaldi, Damon Martin and Elwin Aylen at different times in the game mixed things up nicely creating a number of chances and the commitment of these younger players was outstanding taking on boys older and considerably bigger.

The ever-reliable Toby Boekel and Jye Martin tested the Woodside fringes creating some terrific go forward and were equally desperate in defence along with Dan McArthur, who as always played a solid mid-field role before donning the goalie top for the second half.

As the clock ticked over into the last 7 minutes of the game, the score line was even, Hahndorf looked to be absorbing the attacking forays but unfortunately another superb header effort saw Woodside go ahead and unfortunately Hahndorf was not able to find an equaliser.

Whilst bitterly disappointed, the Hahndorf boys should be proud of their effort. The ground was heavy and wet making it all the more difficult, but the skill and determination shown was fantastic. With six

more games for the year to come, the team has the opportunity to show what they are made of and enjoy the rest of the season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (0) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6)

Match Report

07/08/2021

Hahndorf Under 14 Girls – Torrens Valley Under 14 Girls

It was a cloudy and dry afternoon when the Hahndorf U14G met with Torrens Valley U14G.

Torrens Valley started the game and from the first whistle Hahndorf put on a solid effort. Charlie Fairley started the game as goalkeeper and saved numerous opportunities created by Torrens Valley.

A great long distance shot from Emily Tziros hit the back of the net and gave Torrens Valley a 0 – 1 advantage that our team tried effortlessly to tie with a few fast counter attacks where our midfield players Esther Van de Gaer, Lucy Tinsley-Smith and Amiel Kerber launched our attackers Eloise Cutting and Ruby Tully perfectly, resulting in a pair of corners. On 1 of these corners Eloise had the chance to equal but unfortunately her shot missed power and fell short.

Our defence team of Amber Klose, Jemma Langford, Zara Tinsley-Smith and Alex Czukli kept Torrens Valley from scoring their second goal with Amber chasing down every counter attack.

The second half started great for Torrens Valley as they scored their second goal just after the whistle. Clare Levy outrun everybody and with a great shot she gave Jemma, who started as goalie no chance.

Hahndorf tried and had a few opportunities but none of them resulted in a goal. Clare Levy repeated her earlier effort a few times resulting in a 0 – 6 win for Torrens Valley.

Both teams showed an excellent effort with great skill. It was a great game and we would like to thank Torrens Valley for an enjoyable game.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (2) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (0)

The U17 girls lined up for the last game of the day on what had been a busy day at the Woodside home ground.  Unfortunately the Murray Bridge girls had a few unavailable to play this week, but two of the Woodside girls put their hand up to fill their spots and ensure a competitive match for both teams.

After a couple of weeks break the start was slow, but everyone was pleased to be back.  The game was very evenly matched. Some great passing across the pitch saw the ball moving from end to end and all players working hard for the break-through.  Finally, halfway through the first half Woodside managed to get a long ball forward of the defenders, ready for the Woodside striker who ran it forward and in for the first goal of the match.

The game continued in this competitive spirit, with opportunities on both sides and some great saves from keepers at each end. The final score came late in the game, again for Woodside, who caught the Bridge keeper out of position.  As the sun went down on the pitch, the whistle blew and Woodside had finally found their first win for the season 2-0!  Well done to all the girls from both teams!
