Today’s match between Hahndorf Black and Murray Bridge Blue was played in Murray Bridge at Beatty Tce. Both teams ran hard all game, with Hahndorf coming away with the win.
All Hahndorf players contributed to the victory. A strong team effort from everyone, and a pleasure to watch. Handorf’s coach switched things up a lot in the second half, giving players a run in some unfamiliar positions.
Best players today for Hahndorf, withh coaches comments:
3 Orland - Four goals, played in every section of the pitch (including goalie) and set up some lovely plays. Had good humour about letting a sneaky goal past as keeper!
2 Gracie - Played a solid first half as right wing, setting up three or four plays with through balls and crosses from out wide. Played two touch give and go soccer very well.
1 Esther - Came all the way to Murray Bridge to watch even though injured!
Today’s game saw the Under 12 Hahndorf White take on the Under 12 Bridgewater Junior Soccer team. Hahndorf had a full team, with Max Oliver back after a few weeks off.
Despite the final score of 4-10, Hahndorf continued to work hard throughout the game.
Julian Hack and Joshua Verryt were able to score several times and had many more shots on goals.
These goals were not possible without the full support and hard work from each team members, Will Whiting, Matthew Knight, Griffin Turnball, Lucas Leske, Charlie Harvey, Oliver Dahmke, Harry Mumford, Rielly Bowden, Zoe York, Logan Maxwell, whose persistence in working the ball from the defense to midfield to the forwards aided in these goals being scored.
Despite yet another loss, Hahndorf Under 12 White continue to train with purpose and each Saturday bring their “never give up” attitude to their games.
Strathalbyn made it quite clear to the visiting team from the start of the game that points at this stage in the competition make a huge difference to their standing on the ladder. Strathalbyn's defense played with energy and commendable commitment and in so doing so gave the midfield the momentum necessary to play their forwards into repeated attacking opportunities.
With complete control over their offensive game and a strong desire to win, Strathalbyn netted the first of many goals thanks to fantastic teamwork by the two strikers.
2 more goals came as a result excellently taken shots by way of a penalty and a free kick against the visitors mid game, and, with every player putting in their maximum effort, the outcome was for a hugely enjoyable well played game and a worthy win for the home team.
Final score:
Strathalbyn 7 - Stirling Districts 0
Ashton oval played host to this round 14 match between Rangers and Stirling United in U14 Division 1. Undefeated Stirling started well, with Toby Leigh scoring a simple tap in after 2 minutes followed by Henry Monaghan scoring to the left of the keeper with a typically clinical finish to extend the lead. Rangers then had a period in their attacking half, with a couple of half chances, with Stirling eventually breaking out of defence thanks to classic Ky Henry end to end run down the right hand side. Shortly after, Charlie Rollings was brought down in the area, with the resultant penalty being taken by Araby Phelan. The rest of the half saw Stirling have the majority of the chances, but a number of strong saves from the Rangers keeper kept them in it at half time.
Almost immediately after the half time break, Stirling had a purple patch where they put on 4 more goals to put the result beyond doubt. First a cross from Leigh was volleyed home by Monaghan, and 2 minutes later, Phelan turned onto his trusty left foot for another. Leigh got his second, and then to finish the scoring, a corner was sent in by Nik Smith, and Calan McCormick headed it home. The last 20 minutes saw no further scoring, but plenty of end to end play, with both team competing hard for an entertaining game which was closer than the scores suggest.
Stirling now prepare themselves for a mid-week semi-final cup clash, while Rangers continue their fight in the league next weekend.
With only three games remaining in the season Woodside's U14 Red team are too far behind ladder leaders Stirling United to catch up. Unfortunately even second placed Mount Barker and third placed Strathalbyn are too short to challenge Stirling United either. With their nine wins from nine games played Stirling United will coast through to victory from here.
Second is the new first. With Mount Barker and Strathalbyn scrambling for the coveted position, both six points clear of Woodside, it'll be an interesting finish to the season.
On Saturday fourth placed Woodside Red took on Mount Barker at Cornerstone College's glorious pitch. Whilst Woodside had beaten Mount Barker during the grading rounds (where the result didn't matter), they had also lost heavily to them post grading with a 1-4 defeat. With nothing to lose and everything to win Woodside took to the ground with their full squad and a bucket load of positivity.
The game kicked off at 11am and it was quickly determined that both teams were on par with each other. Mount Barker's defensive line-up was strong and any time Woodside had a good run they were shut down by numerous players who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Woodside was equally as strong, and, whilst most of the first half the ball was in Woodside's half, neither team was in control. Half time came around quickly with little to show. A couple of unsuccessful strikes at goal. 0-0.
The second half saw both teams refreshed. With 35 minutes remaining both teams thought it was time to ramp things up. Mount Barker were the first to break at the 58th minute. Woodside were too far forward and Mount Barker had an open run, slipping one past keeper JAYDEN STEWARD, who often bears the weight of the rest of the team in those moments, despite his multiple saves.
After their previous loss to Mount Barker Woodside should have been happy with 0-1, but it wasn't to be. Woodside, seemingly teasing the growing crowd, left their run to catch up to the dying moments. AIDEN SUTTON, on the 69th minute and via his usual left side approach stemming from a timely cross from master JAMES WALL, equalised.
With a minute remaining and a usually reserved Woodside Coach screaming at his players to shut everything down and head home with a draw, Woodside Red were ignorant and seized the opportunity to have one last ping. Mount Barker lost the ball to Woodside who saw the feet of numerous players on the way towards Mount Barker's goal, before finally landing on the feet of Woodside Captain JETT TONKIN, who naturally slipped it past their keeper. Woodside players and supporters were ecstatic.
“Even though Woodside’s efforts were strong, by all players, one particular player stood tall in a land of giants”, said Coach BRUCE TONKIN post-game. “JOSH VASSOS played an absolute blinder. It’s reasonably easy to assess opposing team’s strengths and weaknesses and difficult to analyse your own. Mount Barker were strong on all angles, however it was rewarding to hear one of their players comment on how strong our own defence is. One of our key centre-backs was integral in today’s win. With his endless energy and sheer will and determination Josh was an easy pick for man of the match”.
In the next round Woodside will take on ladder leaders Stirling United whilst Mount Barker will see Strathalbyn.
A tough game for Hahndorf Under 16s as they faced ladder leaders Stirling Districts Red. The first half was a good contest with both teams getting plenty of the ball. Stirling kicked 3 goals in the 1st half and the 2nd half was dominated by the Stirling team who controlled the play from the opening whistle. Hahndorf's only goal came from a great run and kick by Will Bailye. Jack Eakins and Tully Probert worked hard in defence and Jack Anderson had plenty of the ball but was unable to score. Hahndorf's keeper, James Bagley was tested many times as Stirling pushed forward relentlessly. Stirling walked away with a comfortable win.
