U7

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Hahndorf Soccer Club

A wonderful morning greeted Woodside and Hahndorf for the first game of the U7 2023 Season. Woodside started strongly, pursuing the ball and working together well. After an early goal and a period of dominating possession, Hahndorf began to feel more comfortable on the pitch and started to search for a period of possession of their own. Woodside continued to push forward and continually put Hahndorf under pressure, resultng in another excellent team goal. Half time was a welcome relief for all players and after a number of substitutions, Woodside were again on the front foot in the second half. An excellent counter attacking run showed Hahndorf's potential as they began to work together and seek out passes. This inspired Woodside to lift as a team and they continued to pressure the Hahndorf box, resulting in a number of goals and a convincing win.

Congratulations to all players for a well played first game of the season!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Bridgewater Soccer Club Blue

On Saturday, the Hahndorf Under 7’s put on a good effort for a cold and misty season opener against Woodside at the Woodside Recreation Ground. Hahndorf’s game captain - Hamish Holmes – represented Hahndorf in the coin toss in front of a crowd of approximately 50 eagerly awaiting parents, siblings, family, and friends.

From the opening whistle, Hahndorf players Ryan Glynn, Patrick Griggs, Hamish Holmes, Alfie McConville, William Moran, Chloe Pippos, and Axel Pym (GK) provided a strong defense, with goalkeeper Axel Pym saving a number of early tries for goal. During the first quarter, Chloe made a break for goal, but unfortunately it just missed the mark. Players were substituted around the 10-minute mark, allowing the fresh legs of Avery Buchanan, Asa Bartsch, Victor Bartsch, and Finn Bond a run around the pitch.

Half time saw a change in goalkeeper to Patrick, and a renewed energy from the Hahndorf side. Unfortunately, there were a couple of injuries, with Axel taking a hard knock by the ball to his stomach, and William receiving a wayward knee to the back. Both boys were recovered by the end of the match. The second half remained consistent, a sure sign of growing confidence in what is a very young team. The Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank the Woodside team and officials for a great season opener!

U8 - Round 1 - 29/4/2023

Mt Barker United Red Vs Woodside Warriors Red

Summit Recreation Park – 8:30am

Welcome to the 2023 season, which will begin at the Summit Recreation Park against Mount Barker United Red. The lads on our new team were quite excited to start the season this morning. It was fantastic that the season had finally started, with the sun beaming and the sound of laughter as they warmed up.

Soon after the game began, Woodside put a goal on the board thanks to a breakaway strike by Archer. Nathaniel, Luca, and Owen then made several strong runs through the midfield, which allowed us to keep the game open and fast-moving. Enabling Mitchell and Daniel to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

We scarcely allowed a shot on goal as our defenders, Freddie & Eddie closing down any forward attempts that Mt Barker might generate. Despite having a slow day, our goalkeepers (Eddie in the first half and Nathaniel in the second) stayed alert to make sure nothing could slip by them.

The Second Half continued the first half's narrative, with Woodside passing and distributing the ball with the appearance of a seasoned team. One thing that was obvious as the players' nerves settled & confidence grew was the enormous smiles on every player's face. Excellent start to the season, Well Done Warriors!!!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club

We kicked off our 2023 season at Birdwood against Torrens Valley.

We arrived to find Torrens Valley were unable to fill a team but eventually scraped enough players for us to play a 5-a-side game. This was challenging for our boys as it meant a lot of extra leg work but it provided a great learning opportunity to get them working together.

Despite fewer numbers on the field we had several attempts at goal before Eddie put a goal on the board.

The second half saw some weary legs but Oliver snuck in another before a deserving substitution.

Our goalkeepers, Patrick and Leon, were kept on their toes and both made sure nothing got by them.

All players went in confidently and should be proud of a great start to the season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

The Hahndorf U8s had a very strong performance against Mt Barker United for their first game for the season (and for many of the team, their first ever game!).

After a couple of solid efforts at training Kealan Atkinson was named our captain for the week.

Hahndorf got off to a very strong start with Will Neelawala having a great run through the midfield and finishing with a terrific shot on goal. Unfortunately his shot  was inside the box so the goal was disallowed (only the goalkeeper is allowed inside the six yard box in this age bracket. To keep goalies safe while kids work out their skills!).

Charles Kilpatrick and Will were looking like a real attacking threat in the first half with our defensive line of Eric Jager and Art Neville providing great tackles and clearing the ball to put a stop to any offensive efforts from Mt Barker.

Great passing from Kealan and our goalkeeper for the half, Brooklyn Karamanov (some wonderful big kicks from the keeper) was proof the great work of coach Brendan Kilpatrick has been doing with team in training has been paying dividends.

Hahndorf finished the first half with a wonderful shot from our striker Carter Karamanov going inches wide of the post.

The second half saw a change in positions for all Hahndorf players. Will moved to striker and started strong. Having two attacking runs and shots go just past either post only minutes apart.

Strong link up play between second half goalkeeper Art and Kealan at the back set Hahndorf up well for many attacking moves forward.

Brilliant defensive pressure from Brooklyn, now in the outfield as a defender, released Charlie as a striker whose attacking run was finished with a wonderful shot into the bottom left corner. Only his celebration (shirt over the head sliding on his knees back over the halfway line) outshone the attacking move.

The new defensive line of Art and Carter and Kealan was proving effective. Some great saves from Art backed up by wonderful tackling from the two defenders kept a strong Mt Barker side at bay.

Wonderful passing from Eric Jager in the midfield to the frontline of Will and Charlie meant Hahndorf was a constant attacking threat.

The game finished with a bit of flair with a creative back heel from Carter Karamanov showing his parents that his YouTube habits were having an effect. The final whistle blew to the sound of applause from the sidelines. A wonderful effort from both teams and a great start to the season!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

Excitement filled the air as Woodside Gold arrived to play Nairne at the Nairne Primary School on Saturday. Six of the 10 Gold players were either new to the game or the club and it was quickly evident a few had arrived with trepidation. Nairne had only 6 players so it was agreed that Gold would lend them a player. Ashley Hendrie was quick to offer as he new his opponents who are fellow school buddies. Gold dominated the first half and when the ball entered Nairne's half, "captain of the day" Charlie Dvorak sent it back with force. In a brilliant back and forth passing sequence by twins Toby and Jo Smith which bewildered the defence, the final pass went to Stefan Sims who slammed the ball into the net. Zaion Lorefice and Toby Riemann were also contributing well to push the ball forward as the half ended with Gold surprised they had the upper hand. With players reluctant to join Nairne for the second half, Jo Smith was sent over and with his twin as goalkeeper Gold had their two most experienced players out of the field of play. Nairne began to take control of the game despite the exhuberance of Logan Pielago while Jack Hogan did some good throw-ins down the line. About five different Gold players had a clear shot on goal in the second half only to lose control at the last second or see their shot go just wide. It was a better-than-expected start to the season and was a promising indication that the Gold team will be competitive against some of the other teams.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

It was a fresh but sunny day in Hahndorf today as the under 9s Girls team prepared for their first game together and the first soccer game ever for many of the players in the team. The atmosphere was one of excitement and nerves as the whistle blew.

Mt Barker red started strong with a confident forward line making our defenders work hard. Anu Duggin and Amelie Rymer showed that they had what it took to keep the ball out of the goal, with Kaylee Sheremetjev stopping multiple shots at goal.

Eden Stell moved well through midfield after a great clearing kick by A. Rymer to turn the play around. Mt Barker continued to push forwards, securing the first goal despite excellent defensive work by Charlotte Rymer and Stell.

A. Rymer ran hard to support her teammates, while Holly Pippos put her body on the line to take possession of the ball.

Mt Barker continued to score, but Hahndorf were not going to give up. Scout Ramsey and Sheremetjev made a run up the field but were stopped before they made it to goal and half time was called.

The second half saw Ramsey in goal with glue on her gloves. Hahndorf found their rhythm with the ball spending more time in their attacking half.

Ruby Baryczka came on in midfield showing great promise but took a hard hit by the ball and needed to go off shortly afterwards.

Ramsey made some excellent saves and was well supported in defence by Duggin, A. Rymer, C. Rymer, Pippos and Willow Duggan, who turned the ball around again and again. But Mt Barker worked tirelessly and continued to score.

The game ended with huge smiles all round. What a wonderful start to the season.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club

The first game of the season was a cool and wet one at Home in Woodside. The U9 Blues, a mix of old and returning players, saw themselves finding and establishing postions naturally within the team which was excellent to see for their first time out together. Couch Shaun returning for his second year with the Blues, looking forward to implementing more structured positions this year.

Brand new comer to the Club Gage Erdmann was a standout in his very first game. Scoring his first goal from the very first centre pass of the game, to Goalie in the second half with no balls making it through. Well done Gage!

Another standout first timer Quinn Scott, scored 2 goals for the team. He slotted right in with natural forwards Liam and Adam as the trio worked together making multiple gains and shots at goal. Welcome Quinn!

Adam Masters moved up from playing 7's last year and proved that size is no barrier to great performance! He stole the show with his 3rd goal for the game, covering a half length of the field to score. From the noise made on the sidelines it appears we have an excellent cheering squad for the team this season.

Liam Harding also moved up from U7's and with multiple attempts as goal, showed he is one to watch as a striker.

Will Highson coming accross from playing U8 Whites last year showing he will be a great asset for the Blues in defence.

Ryalnd McDonough and Kaleb Ryan worked solidly together in the midfield as they did for the blues last season.

Daniel Ebdell, a natural defender performed exceptionally well as Goalie in the first half, with multiple attempts not getting past him.

U9 Blues appear to have a well balanced team of players, here's to them developing their skills and teamwork over the coming season!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

The first match of the season saw some nerves and excitement from the team. The weather was good with the sun shining, though some dark clouds lurked in the distance.

The kids tried really hard this week as they became more confident of where they needed to be on the pitch and their role within the team. There were many attempts at goals and they showed great attack by spending most of the game near the oppositions goals. The team were successful in getting some balls into the goals which gave them a confidence boost.

Overall, the first game was a great success and they are all excited for next week's game. Fingers crossed the weather plays nicely again.

U10 Mixed Match Report: Round 1 (6th April 2024) – Hahndorf SC vs Stirling FC White

Our first game for the season was highly anticipated and the newly formed teams could not have asked for better weather conditions with sunshine all around. The team's enthusiasm was vibrating across the pitch as Hahndorf took the kick off on their home ground. Stirling showed confidence right from the start as they put on pressure and challenges for our defensive team consisting of Edward Hung, Michael Griggs and Eric Jager. Throughout the game Griggs stopped many attacks with formidable skills and effectively returned the ball to midfield. Hung consistently demonstrated his ability to successfully clear the ball from the goal when defending and was a key player in the attack as well.

Kealan Atkinson was invaluable in the midfield and intercepted successfully by quickly clearing two attacks in close succession. Charlie Roeszler was outstanding in his performance as goalie and saved numerous shots both from short and long distances. He confidently came forward and caught the ball before Stirling had the chance to follow through. Harry Ramsey played brilliantly in converting Stirling's attack into Hahndorf's advantage passing the ball swiftly towards Will Neelawala or Ollie Drake who were crucial in centre forward by keeping ball possessions.

Since Hahndorf had keen players waiting on the side, Jager willingly joined Stirling's team in the second half to give more players the chance to play. Jager showed great sportsmanship in supporting The Beautiful Game by connecting with Stirling's players. With more time on the field, Hahndorf’s players gained in confidence and saw more opportunities to stay in Stirling's half. One such opportunity saw Harris Parkyn sending a well-aimed pass towards Neelawala, who was able in two quick successions to outplay his opponents and served the ball to Felix Breitweg. This was rewarded with Breitweg sinking the ball into the goal's top long corner and claiming the team's first goal for the season.

Parkyn dominated with his all-in attitude and was unstoppable through his incredible speed that put him into prime position to lock in another goal for the season. The match was a great starter for the new season ahead and we look forward to the team's enthusiasm, energy and enjoyment in 2024. Go U10 Magpies!

U11

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

With the beautiful autumn weather on our side, we were lucky to host round one on our own pitch in Hahndorf.

With round one underway and our athletes playing their first game together this season, they came out strong moving the ball around keeping the pressure on at both ends.

Pearl Beasley, Thomas Gould and Niko Moran were right amongst all the action showing great team work, passing the ball around and dominating the forward line. Defence was intense with Josh Blain, Archie Greene and Mason Saywell continually applying pressure to Mt Barker, with Ollie Ramsey displaying his talents ensuring the oppositions goal score was limited with his great keeping work. Jasper Christou, Dani Morgan and Harry Whitehead were essential in the middle, continuing calling for and retrieving the ball from the opposing team. Gould was on fire with a magnificent goal levelling the scores at half time.

The second half saw the pressure from both teams continue, Mt Barker with a quick lucky goal to set off there confidence. Arichie Keogh made Mt Barkers goalie work hard with a great shot at goal narrowly missing. Yit Xuan Chok, Henley Crook and Noah Duggan weren’t letting the pressure get to them with a solid performance and team sportsmanship.

The final score didn’t reflect the consistent back and forward of the ball down the pitch, and was a good game enjoyed by all players and spectators for the start of the season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (7) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc White (1)

The Hahndorf Under 13s put on an excellent effort to win against Strathalbyn 7-1 in sunny conditions at the Hahndorf home ground, Rob Kilpatrick Park.

Hahndorf played an attacking first half with a successful penalty shot on goal by Louis Moran. A solid corner kicked by Emlyn Gilroy was converted to a goal by Lawson Shotton with a third Hahndorf goal by Shotton soon after. Hahndorf’s goalie Jackson Bidgood also stopped a shot on goal by Strathalbyn with an impressive leap in the air. Rowan Gilroy used the spaces down the right to bring the ball down and cross into the middle. Hahndorf’s defence was also strong with Christopher Haynes and Jack Gaskin successfully turning the ball over throughout the half.

The second half saw Hahndorf play more defensively with Caleb Earley saving a couple of Strathalbyn shots on goals. Pearl Beesley and Nico Moran used the wide spaces to bring the ball forward from defence with Sonjae Cook and Coco Whinfield playing well through the middle. Hahndorf maintained an impressive lead, with a goal from Thomas Gould, another goal by Shotton to get a hattrick and 2 goals from Emlyn Gilroy sealing the game.

U15

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (6)

Game One of the 2023 AHJFA U15 season saw Woodside host Stirling Districts Blue. It was Woodside’s first game in under 15, with the squad a combination of U13s and 12s from last year. Stirling are in their second season of U15 - a battle-hardened unit that drips with talent and is coached by one of the best in the business. Even before a ball had been kicked this loomed as an ominous challenge for the youngsters from Woodside.

From the outset, Stirling dominated. They were bigger, faster and extremely well organised. Within minutes, they had goaled twice, catching the home side out with the speed of the game that they had brought with them. But Woodside soon rose to the challenge, fighting for every possession and holding back the white and blue wave for extended periods. The relentless pressure took its toll however, with Stirling scoring heavily and taking a commanding lead into the break.

The second half was now a question of character for the home side. A win was out of the question, but they did have a choice – fight or crumble. They chose to fight! And why not, you can only control your own actions on the football pitch, the rest is out of your hands. With every wave that Stirling heaped forward, the Red and Blue of Woodside fought for their lives. They jockeyed to delay their opponents, they covered their mates, they fought for the ball. And when they won it, they demonstrated their potential going forward. None of this would win them the game, but it certainly won them the respect of their coaches, parents and the assembled crowd. They also scored perhaps the goal of the day, with a beautiful strike from the left wing finding the back post and ricocheting into the net. Ultimately, the linesman denied the goal, but it was certainly one for the memory bank.

Credit must be given to both groups on their character. Most of the Stirling players demonstrated great humility in a one sided contest, while the Woodside chargers epitomised the essence of courage under fire and never backing down.

Bring on next week and some more Hills Junior Football!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Rams (3) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (2)

The first game of the season between these two teams was played at Strathalbyn on a cool, sunny day. There was a gentle breeze and a small crowd of spectators had gathered along the pitch or were watching from their cars.

The game started and both teams took a while to settle and get into their rhythm. It was obvious that players were rusty and adjusting to new team structures. The Woodside Rams were the first to really pressure Mt Barker's defence and scored through Grace Quane after the 7th minute of play. Mt Barker were quick to respond though, getting behind Woodside's defence several times. A fast break in the 9th minute saw them level the scores at 1-1 and then they drew ahead when an excellent long shot deflected off of the cross bar and was tapped in by a Mt Barker player who had made good position in the 11th minute.

The game settled into an arm wrestle with both teams creating some good chances. It wasn't until the 32nd minute that Woodside Rams were able to score through a strong strike from Louise Isitt. Woodside Rams and Mt Barker were into their rhythm now and working hard. The forwards were making good ground but the defensive lines of both teams were working hard to regain control of the ball and suppress attacking options. Half time came with no further score from either team and the score at 3-2 in Woodside Rams' favour.

The second half started as the first half had ended with both teams creating opportunities but neither able to score. A tense game unfolded- mids intercepted, forwards created opportunities and made their shots, goal keepers and backs defended and repelled. Woodside Rams were able to control the last few minutes of the game with a numbers of attacking moves and shots on goal, but Mt Barker were able to keep the ball out at every turn. The second half ended with neither team able to find the net and the scores remained at 3-2 with Woodside Rams able to grind out a narrow victory over Mt Barker.

Players from both teams should be proud of their first effort for the season and giving us a taste of an exciting competition to come.

Round 1  29/4/2023

Woodside Rams  (blues) VS Mount Barker  u17 Girls

The  game was at Strathalbyn on a cold but sunny winters day. The girls were keen to finally get to play after a long preseason almost a full squad present and excitement in the air.

Captains were presented and expectations of crowd, coaches, managers and players were high, with a bunch of girls in their first ever game and the Woodside and Mount Torrens still finding their feet as an amalgamated team Woodside Rams.

The game started and it was expected to be a tight encounter as history has shown this.

And the game did not disappoint. Woodside Rams took the lead early, with a beautiful run from our forwards making a brake and converting. Mount Barker replied quickly and pushed back into the lead after some loose balls got pounced on and pushed into the net.

Half time was drawing close and the blues pushed into the lead, leaving a 1 goal lead at the half time brake.

Some important pep talk, strategy was had, some position changes made and of course lollies eaten and the team took to the field again.

The tightness of the game increased with both teams working out what was needed to hold back the other team from scoring. There was some close opportunities where the goal post were hit or the ball past by its near side.  Even a face saving a goal, talk about putting your body on the line.

Tension were high and so was my heart rate just watching, I can’t imagine how stressed the girls would have been playing. The clock seemed to be on slow motion, but eventually the whistle blew and the game was done. Well done to both teams as it could have gone either way at any point. What a great way to start the season.

Congratulations to all the girls that played there first ever game today and I hope it is the beginning of many more as we look forward to the season ahead.

Coach Kevin Colla

Stirling Districts Soccer Club (4) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc (0)

Good conditions ushered in the new season with Stirling Districts and Strathalbyn facing off for game one bragging rights. Both sides seemed to be clearing cobwebs with a slow start but Stirling, running with a reasonable breeze, had the better of it.  Stirling threatened Strathalbyn’s goal area many times but never seemed to penetrate beyond the 18-yard box as Strath’s typically resolute defence and numbers behind the ball blocked both players and shots. In midfield Hannah Noonan did a power of work to control possession and keep Stirling in attack.  In reply Strathalbyn made a number of forays into Stirling’s half but were unable to apply any real pressure on Stirling’s goal. Then, in one of the increasingly frequent entries into Strath’s penalty area, Stirling were able to pass across the face of goal atop of the 6-yard box to Jess Verryt who, with one touch, netted the ball. The game continued in a similar fashion with Stirling threatening and Strathalbyn defending resolutely until Zora Huang weaved her way to clear air and Stirling’s second goal only minutes before half time.

With the cobwebs gone the second half was a much more robust contest, and with the wind advantage Strathalbyn were quickly into attack. The Stirling defence were proving up to the challenge. In goals Izzy Bailes made some great saves under pressure while Stirling’s back four of Nora Bijlsma, Ev Wilson, Ruby Tully and Aubrey Adams defused most attacks and then distributed back into the Stirling midfield. In possession Stirling mounted multiple attacks through both wings and the centre corridor but again Strathalbyn’s defence was proving stubborn and where good shots were taken Strath’s goalkeeper made some great saves. Persistence paid off when Rosalie Taylor, in yet another high pace entry from the left wing, edged past the defence and netted Stirling’s third. Multiple attacks featuring Jasmijn Weits, Polly Harrison, Feiya Huang and En Ueda were all blunted by Strathalbyn, but it was Zora Huang who again found a way and with less than ten minutes remaining slotted her second and Stirling’s fourth to put the game beyond doubt.
