Hahndorf VS Strathalbyn Under 13 match report 7 August 2021

A grey sky minus rain set the mood as Strathalbyn U13s kicked off against Hahndorf’s U13 white team at 12.35pm on Saturday 7th August, 2021 at Hahndorf’s home ground.

Forwards Levi Beesly, Hayden Lien, and Cooper Liddle pushing uphill, launched hard at the opposition resulting in Hahndorf maintaining early control of the ball.  Emlyn Gilroy and Beesley attacked hard and often, allowing Lien to score his first goal 5 minutes after kick off.  Lien followed up with a second goal after a further 4 minutes.

Two minutes later at 12.46 midfielder Lien aided by Will, Whiting and Patrick Hinze punched a goal through to make it 3 goals for Hahndorf.

When Strathalbyn pushed beyond the centre line, defenders Daniel Peters, Lawson Shotton, Ryder Hill, and Chris Haynes worked hard, helping block balls reaching Harry Gould in goals for Hahndorf.

Subs were called at 12.50 with Haynes, Gilroy, Hinze and Whiting being replaced with fresh players, Jacob Gardner, Dante Man, Oli Aylen, and Ben Romaldi.

At one point Hahndorf goalkeeper Gould ran wide to retrieve the ball beyond the goal square; sending it back into play.  Moments later an opportunistic shot at goals by Strathalbyn, saw Gould’s speed and ability tested with a slide-kick that blocked a sure goal for Strathalbyn.

After the half time break, Lien kicked off.   Man was in goals with Gould taking the centre mid position.   With Hahndorf playing downhill they used every opportunity to score.  Fiveteen minutes later Beesley ran the ball in, passing to Gould who gave Hahndorf its 4th goal.   Five minutes further on, Gould drove another goal home.  Within a couple of minutes Gilroy, aided by a great cross from Gould, placed goal 6 home for Hahndorf..

Although not as tall as some goal keepers, Man determinedly deflected and retrieved balls and none slipped through.  Midfielders and defenders, Whiting, Hinze, Shotton,  Peters, Aylen, Romaldi and other supporting team mates went in hard and positioned the ball to the advantage of their team.

At 1.40 Hill positioned himself well and drove goal 7 home for Hahndorf.

A feature of the last half spectators will likely remember, saw Gilroy pass back to Liddle over the heads of the opposition.  Liddle then forwarded the ball to Gould who shot his 3rd goal, giving Hahndorf’s its 8th and final for the match that saw it take out the win.
