U10 Mixed Match Report: Round 1 (6th April 2024) – Hahndorf SC vs Stirling FC White

Our first game for the season was highly anticipated and the newly formed teams could not have asked for better weather conditions with sunshine all around. The team's enthusiasm was vibrating across the pitch as Hahndorf took the kick off on their home ground. Stirling showed confidence right from the start as they put on pressure and challenges for our defensive team consisting of Edward Hung, Michael Griggs and Eric Jager. Throughout the game Griggs stopped many attacks with formidable skills and effectively returned the ball to midfield. Hung consistently demonstrated his ability to successfully clear the ball from the goal when defending and was a key player in the attack as well.

Kealan Atkinson was invaluable in the midfield and intercepted successfully by quickly clearing two attacks in close succession. Charlie Roeszler was outstanding in his performance as goalie and saved numerous shots both from short and long distances. He confidently came forward and caught the ball before Stirling had the chance to follow through. Harry Ramsey played brilliantly in converting Stirling's attack into Hahndorf's advantage passing the ball swiftly towards Will Neelawala or Ollie Drake who were crucial in centre forward by keeping ball possessions.

Since Hahndorf had keen players waiting on the side, Jager willingly joined Stirling's team in the second half to give more players the chance to play. Jager showed great sportsmanship in supporting The Beautiful Game by connecting with Stirling's players. With more time on the field, Hahndorf’s players gained in confidence and saw more opportunities to stay in Stirling's half. One such opportunity saw Harris Parkyn sending a well-aimed pass towards Neelawala, who was able in two quick successions to outplay his opponents and served the ball to Felix Breitweg. This was rewarded with Breitweg sinking the ball into the goal's top long corner and claiming the team's first goal for the season.

Parkyn dominated with his all-in attitude and was unstoppable through his incredible speed that put him into prime position to lock in another goal for the season. The match was a great starter for the new season ahead and we look forward to the team's enthusiasm, energy and enjoyment in 2024. Go U10 Magpies!
