U14 Girls, Strath White (5) d Handorf (1)

Sat 10th April, 130pm, Strath Soccer Grounds.

A fast and furious game between Hahndorf Magpies and Strath Strikers at the Strathalbyn grounds today. The first half started to look like a walkover by Strikers with 4 goals scored, but the dynamic changed after half time break, powerful words by coach Georgia Vogelsang with Hahndorf redeeming with stronger defence.

First half saw Strath White with the ball constantly in their attacking goal but Hahndorf’s keeper, Charlotte Fairley worked hard to save many a goal. Hahndorf managed an attempt at goal at 13 minute mark but skimmed the front of the goal crossbar and bounced out.  Strath were quick to turn the ball around, get it to their goal and Layla Frahn scored the first of her 3 goals.  Hahndorf’s Ruby Tully worked hard to get to get the ball to her goal but failed to score this time, Amiel Kerber collecting her rebound, also attempting to score and missing. Strath got the ball into their attack and in a short time, Frahn scoring her second goal at the 20 minute mark, with Hahndorf learning to not kick across their goal.  Hahndorf’s Ruby Tully received the ball quickly from the centre, pushing all the way to her goal with another attempt, thwarted by Strath goalie, Gemma Hansen.  It took Hahndorf just a minute to have another goal attempt, again by Ruby Tully, again with no luck. Strath turned the ball down to their end with a goal attempt by Layla Frahn, but hitting the crossbar and bouncing out.  4 minutes later, Layla Frahn had more success at goal, pushing through 3 Hahndorf players, scoring her 3rd goal. From the centre pass, Hahndorf, once again, controlled the ball into their attack, Ruby Tully still pushing forward to goal, this time with well deserved success, finding the back of the net. With 2 minutes left of the half, Strath’s aggressive play, pushed the ball into their goal line once again, and with Layla Frahn taking a turn on the bench, Brooklyn Rigney took the scoring role with an almighty goal before the half time whistle.

Hahndorf’s half time coaching direction must’ve been successful as their defence cranked up to the next level .  It took 6 minutes for Strath to score again with Bonnie Clothier assisting with a pass to Brooklyn Rigney. And although Hahndorf’s goalie, Charlotte Fairley got a hand to it, she was disadvantaged by height and the ball found the top of the back of the net.  Rigney scoring her second goal and final goal of the match.  29 minutes left of play saw both teams working hard both defensively and attaching but neither team scoring again. Final score, just before rain and wind made the day really uncomfortable, of Strath 5 d Hahndorf 1.
