Prior to the match commencing, Strathalbyn Strikers didn’t have enough players so Ruby Tully valiantly volunteered to play for the visitors. Stirling Districts FC made a strong start. A free awarded to the opposition saw Polly Harrison, Ev Wilson and Jae Fitch create a wall to help keeper En Ueda defend the Stirling goal. Shortly thereafter Strathalbyn scored the first goal of the match a mere 6 minutes in. In her first ever game for Stirling, Noa Ransom showed both her skill, versatility and connection to her team mates. Zoe York’s return from injury lent leadership and control to the midfield. Layla Preece and Feiya Huang were strong up front with good positioning to receive balls fed through by Zora Huang. Rosalie Taylor had some good runs up front but was unable to convert to goals.
The second half of the game saw Jae Fitch step up from a physically demanding first half to take on the keeper’s position with true grit and determination. Ev Wilson, En Ueda, Em Dalton and Nora Bijlsma provided a coordinated defensive effort. Jess Verryt’s typical dogged determination was admirable although did not bring the results she fought for. In the final four minutes Ruby Tully scored for the second goal for Strathalbyn. Strong attempts by Auriana Healy throughout did not convert to improve Stirling’s score line.
