Match report

Yesterday Woodside Reds played another hard fought match, and although the result may suggest we did not play well, the opposite is true. On the sidelines we were impressed by just how much each player has improved over the space of just a few months! Each player is thinking about, and working on, their weaknesses and we can see just how everyone is becoming a stronger player. We will work more on accurate passing and teamwork, but each player is now committing to tackling and focusing on getting the ball. There was a lot less ball watching in the game.

Our defence player a magnificent game, especially considering they spent more than half with just 3 doing the work of five. Sam read the game well, and his kick has come a long way over the last weeks. Ruby slotted into defence and played against a winger twice her size, despite this she attacked and cleared the ball every time. Bob had a strong first half in midfield, before closing down their left wing every time. Lysiane attacked the ball and tackled strongly throughout the game, owning the centre midfield. With Flynn, Banjo and Cohen’s help in midfield we gave them no room to play, with all three showing great determination at not letting Strath take any time with the ball. George is showing some real strength in tackling and thought in passing, now learning how to think like a midfielder.

Our attack showed some real creativity, with Manny and Ryan playing up to their usual tricks, and Manny’s magically placed ball would have sailed past even the best keeper. Riley V pressured the ball in an inside forward position and his passes created several strong plays. Riley T loved the second half in attack with some lovely passes but the first half keeping demonstrated some top quality saves. Banjo served admirably as keeper in second half, but some closely fought tricky kicks made life hard. Despite this he kept his head up and continued to save several hard balls. Cooper again showed us his real potential with some excellent defending in the first half, but more importantly, some great reading of play and positioning in attack in the second half.

Well done Reds. Holding your heads up knowing you have given it your best shot without giving up, and continuing to think about how we can improve our game can only see us playing better. We had several passages of play that began to show that our individual skills are improving, and that our teamwork skills are getting stronger.
