On Saturday, the Hahndorf Under 7’s put on a good effort for a cold and misty season opener against Woodside at the Woodside Recreation Ground. Hahndorf’s game captain - Hamish Holmes – represented Hahndorf in the coin toss in front of a crowd of approximately 50 eagerly awaiting parents, siblings, family, and friends.

From the opening whistle, Hahndorf players Ryan Glynn, Patrick Griggs, Hamish Holmes, Alfie McConville, William Moran, Chloe Pippos, and Axel Pym (GK) provided a strong defense, with goalkeeper Axel Pym saving a number of early tries for goal. During the first quarter, Chloe made a break for goal, but unfortunately it just missed the mark. Players were substituted around the 10-minute mark, allowing the fresh legs of Avery Buchanan, Asa Bartsch, Victor Bartsch, and Finn Bond a run around the pitch.

Half time saw a change in goalkeeper to Patrick, and a renewed energy from the Hahndorf side. Unfortunately, there were a couple of injuries, with Axel taking a hard knock by the ball to his stomach, and William receiving a wayward knee to the back. Both boys were recovered by the end of the match. The second half remained consistent, a sure sign of growing confidence in what is a very young team. The Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank the Woodside team and officials for a great season opener!
