Match report
On a typical Autumn day, it was Hahndorf who hosted the game against Murray Bridge. In front of a large and welcoming crowd, it was Hahndorf who took the lead with 2 goals in the first 90 seconds thanks to some great finishing from Lance Pope. Murray Bridge players Anyiwei Anyiwei, Bior Bior, Anyieth Chol and Luka Cima all stepped up to slow down the scoring, but were then countered by Hahndorf’s workrate. This seemed to set the pace for the first half, with Hahndorf scoring multiple goals thanks to their efficient ball use and constantly denying Murray Bridge possession when it counted. Goals to Jesse Powell and Xander Romaldi brought the first half to an end, even though Murray Bridge players Michael Cima, Tristyn Fegen, Jesse Koch and Mayen Nai all tried valiantly to stem the flow of Hahndorf goals. The second half saw a re-invigorated Murray Bridge apply consistant pressure to the Hahndorf defence, courtesy of Edward Rigney, Harry Rigney, Blaze Rogers and Skye Rose. It was only the great defending of Thomas Boekel, Luca Cannavo, and Liam Sickerdick that prevented a goal for Murray Bridge, assisted by the ever-reliable and dependable Hakim Herriman. More chances for Murray Bridge thanks to play-makers Liam Wegener and Daniel Wulff, unfortunately thwarted by solid performances from Zara Tinsley-Smith, Angus Mifsud and Rhys Davies. Eventually it was Hahndorf who prevailed with four more goals in the second half thanks to some brilliant ball work from Mitchell Stribley and Oscar Johnson, and the final goal of the day by Jensen Norris, who was finally rewarded for his efforts both at training and on game day. A special thanks to Murray Bridge Soccer Club, players and parents included, for displaying the highest level of Good Sportsmanship.
