U17 Girls - Round 4

Woodside Warriors vs Murray Bridge United

18th July 2020

Woodside’s home game

With a cool Winter’s breeze keeping everyone on their toes, Round 4 commenced with Woodside’s kick off. Woodside made a great start by keeping possession and moving the play into their half. Though it didn’t take long for Murray Bridge’s defence to hold the line and clear the ball out. Murray Bridge proceeded to hold possession and moved the play into their half along with a shot on goal. Woodside’s defence and goal keeper were at the ready and cleared it away from goal giving Murray Bridge a corner kick. It was this moment where Woodside kicked into gear and ensured that play would take place in their half for the majority of the game. After a few attempts on goal, Woodside’s forward player and captain of the match Esther proceeded to challenge Murray Bridge’s defence and succeeded in getting the first goal of the game in the 24th minute. Spirits were high for Woodside, as this goal was to be the winning goal of the match along with being the very first goal of the season for Esther. Soon after kick off Esther again had an attempt on goal however Murray Bridge’s sweeper wasn’t going to let that happen and swiftly cleared the ball out of Woodside’s half into Murray Bridge’s half.

Half time saw Woodside up one nil. The game proceeded to continue with Woodside playing a more offence game. Woodside’s newest player Lauren displayed outstanding work playing up front alongside forward runners Esther, Tilly and Bethany. Though Murray Bridge didn’t make it easy and continued to play smart and strong ensuring the ball was cleared out of the box as soon as the ball entered the box.

Awesome work by all players on the pitch today, in particular Murray Bridge who played exceptionally well all round considering they were a few players short. Congratulations to Woodside for their very first win of the season and thank you to all those who came out to support the girls.
