Match report

Morning showers were only just starting to clear for the 12 noon kick off of round 1 for Stirling United and Rangers U17 teams. In 2020, the games between both sides were tight affairs with Stirling managing to take the points on both occasions.

A scrappy start to the game saw Stirling on the back foot, with a number of promising chances for Rangers requiring stand in keeper Henry Monaghan to be on high alert. Rangers were taking advantage of the downslope and Stirling were fortunate not to have gone behind during this period.

Stirling started to settle into the game, and one of their best chances of the first half saw Tom Harris fire a powerful shot drawing a great save from the keeper, and then Ky Henry’s follow up was also well defended.

With the score at 0-0 at half time, it was Henry Monaghan who finally broke the deadlock. Monaghan found himself with space on the left hand side, turned inside onto his favoured right, before going back on to his left and then firing a shot under the diving keeper to put Stirling in front.

The game remained tight, and a goal mouth skirmish at the other end saw Rangers level things up at 1-1, with the score remaining tied through to the final whistle.
