Woodside Warriors Red Vs Hahndorf

Woodside Recreation ground – Modified Pitch 1 – 09:00am

The guys were all fired up and eager to demonstrate their new skills after a really great practise session on Wednesday night, during which everyone benefited from understanding the importance of strong passing & running to dangerous positions. The weather was ideal for some fast-paced attacks from all sections of the pitch, despite the fact that the playing surface was a little heavy underfoot.

It was fantastic to watch the ball being passed around by the entire team as the first half got started. The Hahndorf defence remained solid, holding its ground and controlling the Warriors' persistant attacks. After some perseverance and excellent teamwork, Owen was in the perfect position to receive a pass, rush in, and slam the ball past the goalkeeper. Hahndorf continued to play strong defence, and Freddie was able to get a shot off by deflecting the ball off an opponent's knee and past the goal line. Nathaniel quickly followed with a goal of his own after making a spectacular solo breakaway down the middle. 3 first-time goal scorers for the season, was great to see!

Despite having a bit of a quieter day, our goalkeepers Scott and Freddie were actively engaged in the game, controlling player movement all over the field and ensuring that our defenders were in good positions at all times. particularly when Hahndorf took a number of corners in both halves.

After having a chat with the boys at halftime about how effectively we were moving the ball and how many fantastic opportunities the amount of good passing was providing. We were focusing a little more on player movement and positioning to ensure that we had players moving into good positions to receive the passes The fact that some of our attacks put three or four players in the ideal position to receive the ball and have a shot on goal showed that the boys are really understanding where to move & how to create opportunities. Making some breakaways out of defence and pushing through the middle Archer, Eddie, Mitchell, and Luca were the building blocks for many plays. Daniel & Jesse were involved in the action throughout the entire game, producing some well-placed passes to players creating numerous attacking chances.

The boys gave the season's greatest collective effort today, working tirelessly to generate opportunities against a tough defence, making the game really entertaining to watch. The team as a whole is confidently & strategically moving the ball all over the field. If we can keep cooperating like this, the results for the rest of the season will continue to be fantastic. It was really amazing to watch!
