Match report

The Round 4 match between Blackwood Forest Soccer Club and Woodside Warriors (Red) kicked off at 10am at the Blackwood Forest home ground of Springbank Secondary College.

In a fervent first half both teams had plenty of possession and opportunities, and kept the linespeople continually on their toes. Blackwood started off hungry for the ball with Angus D scoring for the team within the opening 5 minutes.  Woodside attacked straight back, and some solid defense by the home team kept them from equalising. With both teams high in energy, posession changed regularly in the midfield before Blackwood again took control of the attack. Within 10 minutes Blackwood earned 2 corner kicks, and had 2 further attempts on goal, one missing the target and another into the safe hands of the Woodside keeper. Once again Woodside went straight into the offensive and had 2 unconverted opportunities of their own. Blackwood answered with another attack, and Angus D scored his second goal of the half. Just minutes later he had a further attempt, hitting the cross-bar. Having scooped up the deflected ball, newcomer to Blackwood, Elisha S, was cruelly deprived of his own goal when the ball hit the underside of the cross-bar and bounced millimeters outside of the goal line. Woodside won possession and flew into the attacking half with Harry W scoring for his team. For the remainder of the first half the two teams showed great speed and determination with both having further unconverted scoring opportunities due to some skilled goalkeeping, and wayward shots under pressure to finish Backwood 2 -  Woodside 1 at half-time.

A cool breeze and intermittent cloud cover at the beginning of the second half provided a little further respite to the players for the remainder of the match. Both coaches made regular interchanges to give players a chance for a rest and hydration, Despite the heat, the play remained up tempo. Blackwood set out strongly once again with a string of shots on goal. A great pass to Loki N in the box, saw the third goal for the home side. Some stellar keeping from Woodside prevented the margin from becoming larger. Blackwood held most of the possession for the following minutes before Angus D tore down the pitch from midfield and through Woodside defence for his third goal, and Blackwood's fourth, for the match. Woodside successfully defended some further attempts from the home team before taking control of the ball and having an opportunity of their own. With five minutes remaining in the match, Blackwood's goalkeeper made a long run up the pitch. Woodside seized their opportunity of vacant space in the Blackwood defence, with Ryan M kicking Woodside's second match goal.

At full time  Blackwood finished victorious at 4 goals to Woodside's 2. Both teams played openly and fairly giving those spectating an exciting match.
