Match report

Leaving Woodside it was a wet and miserable day. However, the other side of the tunnel had the sun shining and no sight of rain.

After the usual warm up the team still waited for the final two members of the team, but when the whistle sounded all were there and ready to play. Woodside were dominant from the outset and settled into their usual routine of playing good sensible football. They continued to find a way though their opponents defense and get shots on goal. With accurate shooting Woodside were in control and easily in-front. Blackwood worked hard but in the first half didn’t have the answers for the Warriors who found each other in the right space.

When the second half began Blackwood were a different team and Woodside had forgotten what they had achieved in the first half. If you were a spectator you may have forgotten the score as Blackwood dominated in defense and went back to playing the long ball and put pressure on Woodside’s. As the half continued Blackwood closed down their opponents opportunities and were attacking at speed. When Blackwoods centre forward ran on to a ball he only had the keeper to beat but an outstretched hand pushed his shot wide. It was not long before the Blackwood striker had another chance this time putting it home. Woodside lost its shape and were getting frustrated with Blackwoods ball movement. Nothing should be taken away from Blackwoods efforts and determination. They had a goal - win the half - and they were willing to work hard to achieve it. Blackwood managed to score another goal before Woodside scored the last of the morning.

Congratulations to Blackwood in the second half who played as a team and proved that Woodside can be beaten, even if it’s for a half. While Woodside had sealed their victory in the first half Blackwood continues to be the only team that troubles Woodside score sheet scoring 5 of the 9 goals Woodside has conceded so far this season.
