Match report

Woodside Warriors met Blackwood on their home ground today for what was predicted to be an exciting clash of two great teams. Both teams discovered they had a third opponent in this match being Mother Nature. It was blowing a gale and the wind was there to stay. Both teams took a little time to find their feet in the windy conditions and figured out passes needed to be shorter and the ball needed to be kicked harder to get to its destination. There was a lot of play through the centre of the pitch as players worked out the best way to play in these windy conditions.

Blackwood were that bit stronger and had Woodside defence on the run. Woodside goalie definitely put his game face on and saved a couple goals before Woodside had their first attempt at goal. At the half time break the score was all tied up at nil all.

Second half was just as fierce as the first with both teams trying score their first goal. Woodside goalie continued to show his skill stopping Blackwoods attempts to score. Woodside managed to get the ball to their goals for a few attempts, but Blackwood goalie denied any balls getting past him. Blackwood's persistence paid off with them scoring their first goal with about 10 minutes to go in the game. That put a fire in the bellies of the Woodside players and they put on a final burst with majority of the play being in their forward but Blackwood were not going down without a fight. Woodside made a couple great shots at goal but Blackwood goalie stopped the attempts and kept the score at 1-0 their way. Blackwood walked away with the win this time.

Both teams played extremely well in the conditions. The wind was fierce and made the players on both teams adjust their game constantly. The skill that players on both teams showed in a game played in those conditions was a pleasure to watch.
