Clear, cool, and relatively still saw the teams facing off in a lively but somewhat scrappy first half. Neither side was able to control the midfield, which leaked in both directions and saw the defence at each end stretched on many occasions. Fortunately, the keepers were alert and up to the job which saw the teams pause at half time nil all.
The second half saw Stirling gather more structure to their game which allowed them to set more positive teams-based attacks. Despite this Strathalbyn defended resolutely and blunted Stirling’s attacks – many in only the last meters from goal but none the less effective and helped by some good keeping. Jess Verryt was too good on one occasion, and despite the attendance of two defenders, fired for the edge of the goal and found the net. Stirling's better midfield control also stemmed Strathalbyn attacks which became fewer in number. Despite quite a number of close chances Stirling were unable to find the net again but ground out a hard-fought win in which two evenly matched teams played in good spirit.
