U8 - Round 2- 6/5/2023

Woodside Warriors Red Vs Strathalbyn

Woodside – 9:00am

Saturday marked our first home game of the season.  With an impressive crowd on the sidelines ready to support our young champions, all the players were eager to start the game and to show the opposition just how much we enjoy playing on our home turf.

This week, we elected to play a 9-a-side contest as both teams had large (and very energetic squads) raring to get a run.  Despite having a few extra players on the field, we found the space, scored early and nothing could stop us.  Eddie, Nathaniel, Mitchell and Owen, who made up our defence, stood tall and kept their positions well. They rarely allowed the ball to reach our defensive half.  Jesse and Scott's first games of the year were all quality and their inclusion in the team improved our play all over the field.

In the second half, the team unleashed a flurry of shots that resulted in goals from Scott, Mitchell, Archer and Daniel.  Our two little rockets, Freddie and Luca, displayed some impressive skills as they weaved through the midfield, creating multiple opportunities for the team.

The strength of the defence in our midfield resulted in another quiet game for those championing our goalie position this week, however both Luca (in the first half) and Jesse (in the second) held focus well and gave the opposition no chance to score.

Overall, confidence and skills remain at a high level and the entire squad has a great sense of teamwork, which is so great to see.  The boys are hard at work learning how to read each other’s play and how they can best support the team moving forward and we are already seeing improvements beyond week 1.  Boys, keep up the good work!
