Match report

The all-girls Hahndorf White team travelled to Woodside to play Woodside Gold on Saturday Aug 26 on a pitch which had recovered well from the rain in recent weeks.

While Woodside fields three teams in this age division not one of them has a female player so for Hahndorf to be able to field a complete team of girls is a credit to their club management. According to the coach all girls are in their first year of playing but it was quickly apparent that there is some exceptional talent among them. The Hahndorf defence held firm for the first five minutes but then Woodside Gold worked the ball around and began peppering the goals. While some shots made the back of the net, the majority of the shots were being saved by Hahndrof's keeper.

Mason Payne was firing off passes through the midfield and Jack Hogan was running everywhere to close off any Hahndorf attacking moves. Gold had control of the match by half time. Every Gold player was contributing while Hahndorf was having to rely on its few key players.

In the second half some promising attacks by Hahndorf were turned back by Ashley Hendrie as Gold denied Hahndorf of any chances. At least one goal was scored each by Toby Smith, Stefan Sims, Logan Pielago, Toby Reimann and Jo Smith, proving the depth of talent Gold now has. But if there was a Best On Ground award it had to go to the Hahndorf goalkeeper who played a fantastic game saving at least 20 shots, some of which slammed into her as fast as a bullet.
