Match Report

Stirling District vs Torrens Valley

At the Birdwood Park ground it was indeed a wintery day with the sunshine although still cold but at least the rain stayed away.

It was a slow start for Torrens Valley but Stirling District came out of the blocks running.

Torrens Valley won the kick off and sent the ball into the Stirling District forward line.  Which the goalie (Elaine Miller) directed down to the Torrens Valley forwards however it came back and made the Torrens Valley defence work hard to prevent the  ball going in however Lucinda Trenorden scored the first goal of the game.

The ball then went from the middle into the Stirling District defence and Chantelle Doyle had a try on goal unfortunately missed, then there was a try by Zara Witter but that one missed as well.  The ball then headed up to the Torrens Valley defence and made their structure continue to work hard, with Aimee Hogan showing great skill in being the last line of defence for most of the game.  There was a Stirling District corner which was saved by Mikayla Witter whom directed it down towards the centre line which was intercepted by Stirling District and allowing Yasmin Elliot to score the next goal.  So Stirling District were leading by 2 – 0.  Torrens Valley scored their first goal at the 25 minute mark of the first half by Zara Witter.  Then Torrens Valley keeps pushing forward and the next goal was started by Zara Witter which the goalie deflect however Matilda Feast was close by and managed to kick it into the goal.

So at half time the score was 2-2 and the Torrens Valley team rearranged their team during the break.   Stirling District pressure did not let up and making it hard for Torrens Valley to score but luckily for Torrens Valley they managed to get another 3 before the end of the game.

The Stirling District setup was an interesting strategy with a defensive team structure  It threw the Torrens Valley side out for a while trying to work this strategy which continued throughout the game

Once again it was a great game and whenever these teams meet you know it is going to very strategic and disciplined game.
