Match report

The top of the table clash between Hahndorf and Stirling United was expected to be a hotly contested affair after a close contest in the earlier fixture this year. With ongoing showers throughout the week there was a risk the match may be postponed, but fortunately the surface was playable, but certainly heavier than ideal.

From the kick off, Stirling started brightly, but Hahdorf’s first foray forward saw them take the lead with a splendid strike from Angus Mason. An unlucky handball call 4 minutes later saw a penalty and Hahndorf extended the lead. Stirling clawed one back after a corner from Nik Smith allowed Araby Phelan to score with a strong finish. Chances were had at either end, but it was Hahndorf who were able to turn two of those chances into scores and went into the break with a commanding 4-1 lead.

After the break, Stirling United kept fighting, and had some lovely passages, but two long balls down the hill allowed former Stirling United players Kyle Fenlon and then Kane Gibbs to run onto the ball and put away relatively easy chances against their old side, though no chance was easy in the greasy conditions. A consolation goal from Phelan after a nice solo run saw the game finish 6-2 in Hahndorf’s favour leaving them virtually unbeatable for the title this year.
