The game started at a lively pace with both possession and territory swapping quickly, but it was Hahndorf to score first from broken play following a goal kick after five minutes. Stirling countered with a return goal after another ten minutes. The teams continued to duel in a battle for midfield control, and despite some good attacks by Stirling, Hahndorf took back the lead and held it to half time 2-1 up.

The second half offered more of the same with two closely matched teams striving for ascendency. Hahndorf looked to have gained the upper hand running in a third at the 42-minute mark, but Stirling again countered to bring the difference back to one. Hahndorf scored a fourth, but Stirling countered again! Despite some good forays by Stirling in the last minutes they were unable to close the gap and Hahndorf took the game 4-3 at full time in a very entertaining match.
