Match report

A chilly morning threatening rain saw Hahndorf take on Woodside at Rob Kilpatrick Park. A real highlight of the first half was the back three for Hahndorf; Charlie Kilpatrick and Art Neville as left and right backs and Carter Karamanov as goalkeeper. Great positioning and tackling from Kilpatrick and Neville denied Woodside many shots on goal. When the Woodside attackers did manage to break through they were met by the tenacious C Karamanov in goal who produced many fine saves to keep Hahndorf in the game.

Hahndorf scored first with Brooklyn Karamanov scoring in the bottom left corner after a fine intercept and attacking run.

Kealan Atkinson was proving a strong defensive presence in the midfield, with some crucial tackles shutting down Woodside’s attacking options.

A strong passing combination from Zeek Neelawala and Kilpatrick put B Karamanov in on the Woodside goal, with his shot fizzing just wide of the post.

Eric Jager held his attacking position with diligence. His presence up the field meant Hahndorf always had a passing option moving forward in attack.

Halftime saw the obligatory oranges and watermelon. Hahndorf captain, Neville put on the gloves and continued C Karamanov form in goal from the first half, making many saves. The courageous performance by both keepers kept Hahndorf in the game.

Will Neelawala showed his great ball control with some attacking runs that heaped pressure on the Woodside midfield and defence. One effort saw a shot go into the side netting having the Hahndorf support thinking they’d pegged a goal back for a brief moment.

B Karamanov second goal saw his second Cristiano Ronaldo celebration and the second cringing reaction from his mum on the sidelines.

Z Neelawala, Kilpatrick and C Karamanov were immense in their defensive effort in the second half. With fluent passing, they were able to make use of the possession gained by their tackling.

The game ended with Woodside the victors but the Hahndorf support delighted to see what might be the strongest team performance of the season so far. Well done boys!
