Match report

Woodside U12 Red hosted Ranges fixture this week with a 9am crisp start. Woodside started the game slowly and it was apparent that the early start and perhaps the second week of holidays had it made it a challenge to tempo the momentum of the game as we grinded through the first 5 minutes.

Elliot Klein opened the scoring in the 7 minute mark and it was the trigger point for the Reds to kick back into gear. In the blink of an eye Elliot had notched up his second goal and this sparked goals for the usual suspects Rojo Nambia and Josh Constable who also opened up their accounts for the day.

Finn Cradock fresh from holidays spent the first half in unfamiliar striker territory and assisted with constant forward presses for the first half. Of the few times that the opposition found their way into our defensive territory were expertly negated by Finn Randell who, each week is going from strength to strength. As Woodside settled and started to control the game, Nate Dealtry the defensive general, was convinced to wander forward beyond the sacred half way line territory and found himself deep into the forward line. Looking a little nervously back to the half way line, Nate took a deep breath and took the plunge and ran at the ball just outside the box and registered his first assist by setting up the 4th goal for the half.

In the second half Gracie Lloyd had convinced the coach that she was keen to get on the score sheet so, a shuffle was made and Gracie slotted into the left striker position. It wasn’t long before Gracie was leading into dangerous forward spaces and was unlucky not to score her first goal for the year.

Jamie Spooner worked hard on the right wing all day and prevented the opposition from getting the ball out of their defensive half on many occasions. Jordan Virgara was everywhere as usual and provided good run out of the midfield and provided plenty of opportunities for Josh Constable who worked hard and peppered the goals with many near goal scoring opportunities. Rojo’s usual relentless attack on the ball led to a well deserved first goal for the second half. Elliot worked tirelessly all day often dropping back to sweep up in defense as the Rangers regrouped and put pressure on Woodside’s defense. As Elliot pressed forward again he was well rewarded with another goal which notched up a well deserved hattrick. In the last 15 minutes of the game, Woodside were playing more in their defensive half and  Axel Vassos appreciated the defensive stubbornness and wasn’t required to make any saves for the day. Thomas Honner and Deagen Arnold linked up well in defense making it difficult for the Ranges attackers to find any space and all shots on goal were well wide of the goals. Full time score was 6-0.
