Match report

Torrens Valley U17 girls were to travel to Bradwood Park to meet Stirling Districts, but due to the wet weather the venue was changed to Strathalbyn’s grounds. The weather was wet and cold but the pitch was still in good condition for the U17 girls teams to play.

Stirling Districts came out strong from the first whistle and took a couple of opportunities at the goals. They kept the attack up but the Torrens Valley defence and goalkeeper were holding them off from scoring. Finally the ball broke through the Torrens Valley defence line and a strong run from a Stirling Districts forward neatly placed the ball in the back of the net. Torrens Valley then attempted to turn the game around and had two strong strikes on goal but neither got past the Stirling Districts goalkeeper. The game slowed down a bit while a light shower of rain came over. Torrens Valley were keen to even the score and kept the ball in front of the goal but missed an opportunity to score from a corner. Finally a ball was placed perfectly in front of a Torrens Valley midfielder who, with a brilliant strike just outside the penalty area, found the top corner pocket.

Both teams went into the second half wanting to break the tie for their teams. With the sound of a crackle of cockatoos in the background the teams kept each other at bay in a very evenly matched second half. A corner was granted to Stirling Districts who took it beautifully but the Torrens Valley goalkeeper was able to get to it and keep it safe in their arms. Another corner for Stirling Districts saw a strike at goal just go over the crossbar. Stirling Districts appeared to pick up the pace once again keeping the Torrens Valley goalkeeper busy. Another long ball forward for Torrens Valley saw the Stirling Districts keeper come out of the box to intercept the ball, the Torrens Valley forward came in quick to beat the keeper and score. Stirling Districts were quick to reply with some great passing through midfield to get the ball forward and found the back of the net. The Torrens Valley players were finding it hard to get through the midfield but when they did the Torrens Valley forward pounced and took a good strike at goal that went wide. Another opportunity for Torrens Valley came from a corner with the goalkeeper scrambling between the players to get a hold of the ball. Some more strong skills and play in the Stirling Districts midfield got the ball through with a strong strike into the goals getting them ahead. A late goal from Stirling Districts who managed to beat a fast Torrens Valley defence cemented their win.
