Match report
This Woodside Warriors U12’s Blue team had not encountered a team from Hahndorf since 2018, so this match was always going to be interesting. Hahndorf started the game attacking but were evenly matched by the Warriors defence with J.Lunnon clearing to the wings for M. Davis and R.Sutton to tear down the wing, R. Sutton then flicked the ball across the goal ready for S.Cotton to fire the first goal home 2 minutes in. Within minutes the same combination of players nearly had the same result but this time S.Cotton fired over the crossbar. It was becoming evident that S.Cotton working on the wing was hungry for another crack at goal and within 6 minutes that came true. With great teamwork through the centre of the field by P.Thomas and B.Bevan, a long ball down the wing was set up for S.Cotton, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect as  S.Cotton slipped the defender and smashed one in from the edge of the box grazing the fingertips of the Hahndorf keeper. Hahndorf kicked off and went on the attack straight away catching the Warriors off guard, with a Hahndorf player clear for a shot J.Lunnon came from nowhere and managed to tackle the player for a Hahndorf corner.  The strong back four of W. Limbert, O.Boerth, M.Burroughes and J.Lunnon were talking and organising their defence well, not much was getting past this defence, the clearing rate to the midfield was exemplary from all defenders, allowing constant attacks down the wing and slotting balls in to the centre midfielders. Before long D.Silvestri managed to get himself on the scoresheet cracking a ball in from the edge of the penalty box, low and hard into the bottom right of the goal. Hahndorf still kept on attacking through the centre but were readily matched with M.Burroughes tackling prowess and J.Lunnons offloads up the middle, this time B.Bevan got hold of the ball and with some wonderful 1-2’s with S.Cotton, R.Sutton managed to make space and slot home Woodsides fourth on the half hour. Straight away after the kick-off Woodside got a scare with Hahndorf getting clear in Woodside box a goal mouth scramble occurred with a bit of goalmouth “pinball”, luckily for Woodside M.Olsson, goalkeeping for the half, grabbed and shielded the ball inches from woodside goalmouth. With the ball kicked quickly away Woodside yet again went on the attack, S.Cotton set up a lovely ball for B.Bevan, and on a tight angle from the left, managed to squeeze it past the Hahndorf keeper for Woodside fifth for the half.  The second half started with as much energy as the first with Hahndorf pressing ever closer for a goal and again the defence managed to clear for the Warriors to counterattack, the Hahndorf keeper was more than a match for several of the strikes from the Woodside Warriors but after 4 or 5 great saves D.Silvestri found a gap and managed to slot one past the keeper. Hahndorf had started to find gaps in the Warriors midfield and were now having a few shots towards goal, but these were getting picked up and taken wide down the wings by the boot of W.Limbert. Warriors were now on the attack at every opportunity they could find, S.Cotton again utilising the wing and slotting in his third for the match. Hahndorf were very unlucky half way through the second half where they opened up a now sluggish Warriors defence perfectly, shooting past B.Bevan and hitting the crossbar with a great shot from one of their strikers, but with yet another quick clearance down the middle D.Silvestri knocked one in to the bottom right again past the Hahndorf keeper for Woodsides 8th. Hahndorf’s defence were trying very valiantly to move up towards the Woodside goal but another couple of counters in the late half of the second half saw D.Silvestri grab another 2 goals both from outside the area, giving him 5 for the day. The final score, 10-0 great teamwork all round and great communication Warriors.
