Match report

On a chilly but sunny afternoon Hahndorf played Stirling at Pine Avenue, for their second match of the season.

Hahndorf were undermanned due to illness and injuries, with nil subs available. Stirling took advantage of this, surging forward early on and within 8 minutes Karlijn Voorhoeve for Stirling scored a goal. They kept persisting but Sterre dePree, goal keeper for Hahndorf, saved the next shot at goal.

Hahndorf then started to attack, with Monique Bessen eventually scoring at the 20-minute mark. Stirling counterattacked but Charlotta Nielsen, who was Hahndorf’s captain for the day, defended brilliantly. Charlotte Muffett, new to the game this year for Stirling showed greatly improved skills in the field and Maddie Adams continued to strive towards goal for the Stirling side.

With the scores level at one each at half time, all was set for an exciting 2nd half. Hahndorf attacked immediately, with Kiora Hemmings providing good support to Roberts, who scored quickly. Although tired, the 10 Hahndorf players kept persevering across the field, resulting in another goal by both Roberts and Bessen.

Stirling’s goalie for the second half, Laura Bellido was constantly under attack as the home team used the downhill advantage, but made some great saves, including a brilliant stop against all 3 forwards. This set Stirling into attack but Hahndorf’s defensive line, as well as great goal keeping, made it too difficult for them to score again.

The goal of the game was in the closing 10 minutes, when Hemmings shot a long-range air shot over the Stirling keepers head. Roberts then hit the sealer for Hahndorf, with the final score 6 to 1.
