U8 - Round 11- 22/7/2023

Woodside Warriors Red Vs Stirling Districts White

Summit Sport & Recreation park – 09:00am

Back to the location where our young warriors played their first game together. Playing at the summit is always exciting as there are excellent skills on show and the games are played fast and free flowing. Even though rain was predicted, the sun was shining and, except from the breeze that felt like it was coming directly from the arctic, the lads had ideal playing conditions.

The lads reacted nicely to a few rule adjustments that the league handed along throughout the week. This week, both of our goalies, Luca and Owen, deserve a particular mention. They both made a tonne of outstanding saves while playing between the posts. High fives were given from everyone at halftime and after the game to let them know how well they did.

This week's game got off to a roaring start. Did the boys' high energy levels come from the school holiday break or a few postponed games? There were numerous quick runs and plays from both teams as the ball moved up and down the field. A free-flowing pitch was taken advantage of by Jesse, Freddie, and Nathaniel, who all made runs from defence and deep into the attack. As things began to settle, Scott, who still had plenty of energy left in his legs, was able to make a breakaway and put us on the board, sending us into halftime with a goal each.

When the game resumed after the break, the oranges had already begun to take effect and it was being played at a frantic tempo. Mitchell and Eddie both stopped a powerful Stirling surge, allowing us to develop attacking movements from our defensive half, really showcasing the strength of our defence. Archer was able to evade several defenders and blast one past the goalkeeper following a fantastic set play throw in. With a lot of extremely effective attacking plays, we were able to keep the opposition under pressure. Daniel consistently positioned himself properly at the top of the square as the ball was played in from the wings.

Both teams displayed excellent ball movement and skills throughout the whole game, which ended with things all even on the scoreboard. It's amazing to see everyone running and passing to dangerous places in attack and reading the play well to shut down the opposition in defence. Another terrific game, lads. Everyone really worked well as a team.

What a Team!!!
