On this cold and windy Saturday morning, Hahndorf U7s took on Bridgewater Green on a green but bumpy Basket Range pitch in an 8 v 8 modified game. The entire Hahndorf team of 11 were eager to get the Round 7 game started with Chloe Pippos, William Moran, Ryan Glynn, Avery Buchanan, Finn Bond, Asa Bartsch, Alfie McConville, and Axel Pym having his second run in the highly sought-after goalkeeper position.

Soon after the match started, there was a query from Buchanan as to ‘how long until I come off’ – which was met with chuckles from the crowd! Hahndorf started the game with some excellent teamwork between Moran and Bond in the midfield and strikers A. Bartsch and McConville, with all making a number of impressive plays to get the ball towards Hahndorf’s goal. On these occasions though, the Bridgewater defensive line held strong and returned the ball to midfield. Ten minutes into the first half, Hahndorf made some substitutions and we saw Hamish Holmes, Patrick Griggs, and Victor Bartsch take the field. The back and forth in the midfield continued, with both teams gaining ground, then having their opposing defensive line come together to deny the score. Hahndorf’s defensive players Pippos, Glynn, Griggs, and Pym (GK) worked well together to keep the Bridgewater offensive line at bay until half time was called.

With the beginning of the second half, Hahndorf had a change of goalkeeper, with Holmes donning the orange shirt and gloves. Shortly after returning from half time, the Hahndorf offense made a break for goal with Pippos, Moran, Pym, and V. Bartsch creating space and backing up Glynn as he took a successful shot at goal, leading to a massive cheer from the families in the crowd! Bridgewater shortly countered with their own goal – levelling the score. The remainder of the game continued in the same back-and-forth fashion of the first half, with both teams keen to keep the others from scoring. Hahndorf defensive line of Griggs, Buchanan, Moran, and Holmes (GK) saved a number of tries for goal, while the midfield of Pippos, Pym, Glynn and strikers Moran, Pym, Bond, and V. Bartsch did all they could to try to score for Hahndorf, but at the end of the day, neither team could quite make the breakthrough and the scores stood.
