Hahndorf Under 10 vs Woodside Warriors Red

10am Summit Sport & Recreation Park

Hahndorf faced up to their respected opponents Woodside Red on a day reminiscent of summertime in Antarctica.  An exhilarating, fast paced game saw the ball bounce from one end to the other, with exceptional teamwork and skills on display.

Will Neelawala, Brooklyn Karamanov and Harris Parkyn applied relentless pressure to Woodside’s defence, with some amazing combinations and shots at goal. The midfielders Harry Ramsey and Eric Jager provided pivotal intercepts and assists, whilst the defensive wall consisting of Michael Griggs, Charlie Roeszler, Felix Breitweg and Kealan Atkinson ensured “none shall pass”. Ollie Drake capably performed as Hahndorf’s last line of defence. A beautiful kick from Breitweg failed to find the net, whilst at the other end Griggs’ big boot sent the ball back into offense. A slide tackle on Parkyn resulted in a free kick which unfortunately could not be converted.

As half time sounded, it was the supporters turn to combine their efforts to gain the referees attention and allow the players a well deserved break. Coach Nic remarked that this was shaping up to be Hahndorf’s best game all year.

As the second half commenced, Drake provided some great saves and Breitweg/Karamanov/Parkyn/Neelawala combinations very nearly resulted in a score on several occasions. The intense pressure applied to the Woodside defence resulted in Hahndorf’s first goal and a rather unlucky bounce for a Woodside defensive player resulted in Hahndorf’s second goal. The midfield kept up the pressure and the defensive shield stopped all Woodside onslaughts. Harris “Cinderella” Parkyn played his best game yet, only stopped by the loss of his shoe on two occasions. Luckily, resident shoe replacer/shoelace tier Coach Nic appeared on-field to save the day.  Woodside found their feet late in the second half, with some excellent combinations and two conversions.

The game was a hard fought, nailbiting event, which thrilled the frostbitten supporters. Congratulations to the Hahndorf team on a spectacular game.
