2020 U12 | 22nd August 9:00am | League Round 9 | WWSC Main Pitch 1 |
Woodside Warriors U12 Blue played at home against Murray Bridge United U12 Blue. Pitch was wet and muddy under foot but both teams were still eager to play. Warriors gained control of the ball early in the game and let Murray Bridge know they weren’t there to muck around. After a couple attempts at goal Warriors quickly worked out the ball wasn’t going to move well on a wet/muddy pitch and adapted accordingly by making more passes to get closer to goals. One of the passing combinations saw Domenico Silvestri pass to Sidney Cotton who then passed to Mack Olsson who then scored the first goal for the game. Warriors defense Morgan Burroughes, Oliver Boerth, Max Davis and James Lunnon formed a strong line across the pitch and made it difficult for Murray Bridge to get through. When they did get through Warriors chased, applied pressure and most times managed to turn it over or get the ball out. Barnaby Beven the Warriors goalie always had his eyes on the ball and stopped all attempts at goal. Warriors players warmed up with some hot chocolates at half time and prepared themselves to go back out to play second half in the rain. Warriors Poppy Thomas played strong in the midfield both as defense and attacking, stealing the ball and passing it off to teammates with precision. Barnaby Bevan came out from goals to join Will Limbert, Jesse Mewett and Ryan Sutton in the middle and they continued to push the ball forward towards Warriors goal. The wet pitch made it harder for both teams, but they seemed to like the challenge. Warriors defense stepped it up a level and made it harder for Murray Bridge to get to their goals. The couple attempts they had Mack Olsson blocked and kicked it back toward midfield. Warriors played exceptionally well as a team. Passing between teammates and talking to each other which is what helped them kick 4 goals in the fist half and 5 goals in the second. Players were cold, wet and muddy at the end of the game but happy with their win 9-0. Warriors goal kickers were Mack Olsson (1) Ryan Sutton (3) Domenico Silvestri (3) Sidney Cotton (1) and Max Davis (1)
