Under 8  – Hahndorf White vs Hahndorf Black

The long anticipated Hahndorf Under 8 Showdown dawned on a gloriously wintry Adelaide Hills Day. Emerging from the mist like baseball players from a cornfield, the Hahndorf White team pledged to play a fair and fierce match, under the captaincy of Teddy Gilligan.
Like a chess game, White moved first and spent a lot of time in their attacking end. Noah Williams and Carter Karamanov combined well, whilst Charlie Kilpatrick provided a solid wall of defence as goalkeeper. Kamaranov took a free kick whilst teammates Linus Doyle and Magnus Palmer provided good support , keeping the pressure on the Hahndorf Black team. Zeek Neelawala displayed some of his distinctive fancy footwork and Angus Bretag put his body on the line in the name of his team. A free kick to Hahndorf Black was not converted and the Hahndorf White team continued to display excellent teamwork with their attempts to score.
At half time, coach Brendan thawed his players and provided sustenance, reminding the players to stay in their positions and keep moving to avoid frostbite.
The second half saw new goalie Karamanov under pressure from the outset, with him capably taking on the challenge. His impressive slide to save a goal was a highlight of the game. Williams applied his trademark power kicks and Neelawala had some good breakout runs, however the second half belonged to Hahndorf Black. Karamanov saved another two attempts at goals, but it was only a matter of time before Hahndorf Black converted. Patrick Griggs kicked out strongly in defence, but this unfortunately resulted in another scoring shot and conversion for Hahndorf Black.
Hahndorf White salute their worthy Hahndorf Black friends. Kudos to all supporters for braving the weather to support the team.
