Under 15 Match Report 30/07/2022 - Hahndorf vs Stirling Districts Blue
Spirits were high as second placed Hahndorf took on the challenging forth placed Stirling Districts Blue in Saturday’s under 15 game. A delayed start didn’t dampen the enthusiasm and both teams came out hard trying to find that elusive first goal. The ball was tightly contested with rapid turn-overs and each team struggling to maintain possession in their attacking half long enough to threaten the scoreboard.
Hahndorf were first to build momentum with the downhill running seeing fast breaks and goal attempts. A solid save by keeper Tom Boekel and goals by Lance Pope in the 19th minute and Jesse Powell in the 23rd minute had Hahndorf dominating the play. To Stirling’s credit, they dug deep tightening their defensive pressure and giving their attacking players more opportunities up front. The Hahndorf defence worked hard to keep Stirling from scoring but some relentless attacking and a penalty late in the half by Kai Bettany put Stirling on the board. Hahndorf held a 2-1 advantage going into the break.
The second half started off well with end to end play and both teams holding good periods of possession. Sound keeping by both Stirling and Hahndorf kept the scoreboard unchanged until a nice run through the middle and conversion in the 52nd minute by Hahndorf’s Oscar Johnson. Tight defence and unrelenting attacking continued to give Hahndorf the run of play late in the game with conversions to Jesse Powell in the 64th minute and Mitchell Stribley in 70th minute.
Hahndorf took a 5-1 win in a tightly contested game that could have easily gone either way.
