Hahndorf Under 13’s met with Mt Barker White at the Sumit Sports Park, Mt Barker, for the final round of the season. Perfect playing conditions provided the opportunity for a strong match by both sides.
The game got underway with a Mt Barker centre kick that was quickly cleared and pushed into the Mt Barker forward. Hahndorf defence line of Jack Gaskin, Noah Duggan, Caleb Earley and Harry Wood were quick to pounce on the ball, sending it back into their forward. A corner for Hahndorf followed, and despite setting up play in the goals, were unable to convert. This was soon followed by a corner for the home team, but again, defence line was tight, and Hahndorf were quick to push the ball out of the goal box. The first half continued to be hotly contested, with both sides showing strong defensive skills that was preventing either side from putting a score on the board. A clean intercept by Oliver Ramsey moved the ball back to the Hahndorf forward, where both Eli Parkyn and Rigby Barnes attempted shots at goal, but were blocked by the home sides goalie each time. However, Hahndorf found its form late in the first half, with some brilliant play by Sam Griffiths to keep control of the ball up forward, passing to Tom Gould who found the back of the goals, securing the first goal of the match.
The second half saw Hahndorf step up and put the pressure on the Mt Barker defence in the forward line. Despite several corners by Hahndorf, the opposition stood strong, crowding the goal box and preventing another score. Then a skilful piece of play between Parkyn and Gould secured a second goal for Hahndorf. A penalty shot at goal for Parkyn was blocked by the home sides goalie, however consistent pressure by Sonjay Cook and Louis Moran assisted Flynn Menzies to secure Hahndorf’s third goal. A swap in goals saw Caleb Earley don the goalie gloves and Jackson Bidgood move into the forward half. Soon after, Bidgood, with his strong kicking style, had a set shot at goal and expertly pushed the ball passed the goal for Hahndorf’s fourth and final goal of the match.
A brilliant match to watch and a fantastic win for Hahndorf, seeing them finish strong for the 2024 season. Well done to all players with a great show of effort from both teams.
