The Sun was struggling to break through the fog as the team was warming up for another great match. On the sidelines the Hahndorf Magpies had their very own cheer squad. Edla looked amazing wearing the black & white colours and shaking her pom poms. Lena also cheered the team on with her hand-crafted sign.
Brooklyn Karamanov was back in action for his first game of the season, his captaincy taking the Pies off to a cracker of a start. Edward Hung and Ollie Drake were strong in defense with Kealan Atkinson blocking an early goal attempt by Bridgewater White. Drake put his body on the line deflecting the ball so that Will Neelawala was able charge into attack and pass it to Felix Breitweg with Karamanov assisting.
The ball was back in the defense zone until Michael Griggs used his strength and sent it right back past the midfield line. The game was starting to resemble a pin ball machine because the ball was being dribbled and fought over covering all of the pitch and again nearing the goal box until Hung used his speed to his advantage and prevented Bridgewater from scoring.
Harris Parkyn was subbed back into the match with legs both fresh and dangerous he took the ball straight down to the goals and had a noble attempt to score. The ball was back to the opposition’s forward half of the pitch and goalkeeper Charlie Roeszler’s unbelievable skills were tested, but Roeszler’s eyes were on the ball foiling Bridgewater from scoring. Eric Jager was valuable passing the ball to Neelawala to Breitweg and Parkyn using both his speed and skills to find the back of the net!
Harry Ramsey was back on the pitch and was instrumental in bringing the ball forward so Parkyn was able to have another great attempt. The ball was back and forth once more and Karamanov took a free kick surprising the opposition by passing it Griggs who knocked the mustard with a booming kick.
The breeze was cool and the sun had yet to appear as the team took to the pitch in the second half. Breitweg had a monster attempt at goal clearing it and the fence. Jager propelled the ball forward to Neelawala who used some fancy footwork to keep it in attack and then the ball was heading back when Ramsey intersected the ball to stop Bridgewater’s momentum with a block and a pass to Breitweg who then found the net from the huge distance outside the goal box.
The Pies were on fire in the second half and Neelawala had a cracker shot past their keeper. Atkinson got his boot to the ball passing it to Griggs who ran the ball down the sideline keeping it alive and Roeszler had another amazing save showing his nerves of steel. Drake and Jager were able to keep the pressure on in the midfield giving Neelawala another clean shot at goals.
The ball was being fought over gallantly and Drake had a shot at goals and then it was back at the midfield line when there were a couple of unfortunate collisions on both sides bringing the match to an end. The team did a great job today and are playing so well together as a team, well done!
