U8 - Round 7- 17/6/2023
Bridgewater Blue Vs Woodside Warriors Red
Basket Range – 10:00am
The wind was roaring and we were racing the rain when we played Bridgewater Blue today at Basket Range. All of the supporters were rugged up and getting ready for the bad weather. The boys didn't seem phased & were just keen to play some football. Fortunately, the game was over before the bad weather arrived.
The first half started off well. Against a team who could clearly move the ball well among themselves, our defenders held solid from the beginning. Eddie and Freddie took charge of the defensive, ensuring that our back half was always protected. Both teams didn't give up many chances to score throughout the entire half, making it a competitive game all over the field. Bridgewater managed to make a breakthrough late in the first half and hold the lead at the the break. This seemed to inspire our boys, who were all eager to even things up.
The second half started similar to the first, with an even battle fought out mostly in the midfield. Jesse was able to set up some aggressive manoeuvres for the warriors, working well in the midfield. There were a few more scoring opportunities as some tiredness set in. Then Bridgewater found some room once more, and a good shot from wide saw them score a second time. Our players, who were still determined, immediately reacted with a quick run down the line, and a centring ball allowed Scott to score. Game on, Here come the Warriors! Together, Archer (covering enormous distance seemed to be gaining possessions all over the pitch) and Luca were able to combine with a shot that the keeper just barely slowed down enough for the ball to stop on the line. Mitch and Owen, who were both playing defensive roles, were able to control the situation and repel any attacks that were directed at them. With a few seconds left, the warriors sent the the ball sailing past the goalkeeper and settle the score. Huge efforts were made by everyone, and the boys really gave it their all to come back and display an incredibly inspiring never-say-die attitude.
