Match report
It was the highly anticipated showdown between the 2 Woodside Under 15 teams, played at Woodside - both teams home pitch, where it was cloudy but sunny at times, with an artic breeze and a few showers, just to keep the spectators on their toes. With Woodside Blue on top of the ladder and Woodside Red a bit further down the ladder, it was a great way to end the season with the club mates to verse each other. As soon as the whistle blew the determination from both teams was evident. Blue having an early attempt at goal which was stopped in it’s tracks by Red’s goalie, James, a pattern which emerged throughout the match. Within the first 2 minutes Reds had a corner kick opportunity which had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Harry almost kicked a spectacular goal from the corner, it was so close with the ball hitting the post. Blue made multiple attacks but the quick foot work of Red defenders made it difficult for them to score. Not much getting past Josh (AKA Bob), as he put pressure on the Blue players. George showed off his skill throughout the match, playing well in any position the coach put him in. The Red midfielders Lysiane, Maya, Ruby, Bradley and Banjo, worked hard as the match progressed, being the first line of defence and also bringing the ball forward into attack. By the end of the first half, with the score nil all, every Reds player had worked hard to keep Blue scoreless, and the Red goalie, James had managed to stop every shot on goal. The second half of the game saw the competition continue for the 2 Warrior teams. Early on, Blue was given a penalty shot, which resulted in an undefendable goal. The Reds attackers Harry, Ryan, Cooper and Riley fought hard, resulting in Reds having a couple of goal opportunities but unfortunately, we were unable to score. The Red defenders Flynn, Maya, Sam and Bob kept the Blue attackers at bay for most of the game. However, Blue was able to slip in one more goal in the second half, despite this strong defence. It was great to see Reds player Cohenn, with his arm in a sling from his recent collar bone injury, supporting his team on the sidelines. During the match, the Red Warriors showed just how much they have developed as a team since the last game against the strong Blue opposition, a testament to Red’s persistence and dedication throughout the season. The final score was 2-0 Blue’s way. The game was quite an even contest and well played by both teams. A great end to the 2021 season!
