Match report
Woodside again hosted Strathalbyn but after a number of players competed for association teams over the long weekend, both teams were depleted in numbers with Woodside only having a bare 11 for the first half.

Woodside shuffled its personnel to better balance the team in an effort to try and save their legs for what would be another good contest. Woodside though started the stronger, with a greater commitment to win the ball and put their opponents under pressure. As planned Woodside tried to make the ball do the work and it was not long before they were switching play and getting behind their opponents, putting the Strathalbyn keeper and defence under pressure. For 20 minutes the Strikers held strong but the Woodside winger got free and, through the defensive line, he found the back of the net and opened his account. Woodside continued to amount the pressure and were denying their opponents an easy way out of their defensive third. In a rare opportunity Strathalbyn got past the Woodside defence but leaving his goal line the Woodside keeper stopped any real chance of a goal. Woodside continued to defend strongly and with Strathalbyn having the luxury of substitutes, the back four remained strong. Woodside’s strong throwing midfielder was causing trouble for the Strathalbyn defence clearing them and allowing the Woodside attack to run onto balls and create opportunities. In one instance he managed to get the ball past all
opponents and team mates and land the ball in the back of the net untouched. With 10 minutes to go in the half Woodside were awarded a penalty when a ball ran down a defenders arm in the box leaving the referee no choice but to award a spot kick. Woodside’s central striker took the kick and increased the lead. As the half drew to a close Woodside again scored when the Strathalbyn defense allowed the Woodside winger to score his second for the game. At the half time the score was 3:0.

Woodside managed to increase its numbers in the second half when a determined player arrived on his bike after riding from Mt Torrens, late but ready to play. Also determined was Strathalbyn who knew they were a better team than their first half efforts demonstrated and wanted to make this a closer game. While the Striker’s were more determined this half, the Woodside unit held strong and repelled any attacked the Strathalbyn team offered. Woodside continued to play good football and with its central midfielder taking throw ins like a corner, the strikers remained on their toes. This was a better half for Strathalbyn who defended exceptionally well. With a reserve now, Woodside was able to rotate its forwards giving them a well deserved break. However, Woodside's midfield and defence were tiring. With five minutes left on the clock, Strathalbyn’s forward managed to run onto a ball and as the keeper and defence tried to close him down, he managed to get a shot away and found the back of the net. Woodside though were not out of the contest and in the final minute scored their fourth.
