Match report

The Gold team entered Saturday's match yet to notch a win and were up against the mightly Blue team which had only lost one match so far.

The first five minutes was played in the middle of the pitch with neither team gaining the upper hand. Jo Smith was nullifying any Blue attack on the right while Toby Reichmann on the other side of the pitch was also stopping all incoming balls. His long kicks were hitting their mark as Gold took the ascendancy. After a short sprint Logan Pielago lobbed a beautiful shot over the goalkeeper and Gold had taken a surprise lead.

Zaion Lorefice was passing well in the midfield and again Logan was set free and scored with a low hard shot. Jack Hogan was everywhere, pressuring his opponents into mistakes and intercepting passes in his best game so far. Just before half-time captain-of-the-day Logan scored his first ever hat-trick.which won't be his last.

Surprised at their result at the break, the Gold team didn't let up and continued to run and press. Ashley "I don't like to play in defence" Hendrie was brilliant, reading the play well to turn back the Blue attacks time and again. One of his passes found Stefan Sims who fired a shot past the goalkeeper. Minutes later Stefan could have scored again had it not been for the Blue's goalkeeper Liam making "the save of the century" which brought massive applause from around the ground. Then another pass fell to Toby Smith who, after a long sprint, duly scored.

Finally an exhuberant Gold team had scored a win which for many was their first-ever victory on a soccer pitch.

Special mention to Ryland's mum Sara from the Blues who stepped up to be a great referee and prove the girls can do just as good a job as the boys.
