Match report
It was a 50:50 chance that this game was going to be played with the amount of rain that had fallen over the Adelaide Hills this week. On inspection of the pitch, the referee gave the all clear and in what can only be described as very muddy conditions, we were under way.
Our opponents were out to spoil our undefeated record and in tricky conditions, they fought hard for the ball. It was a tough first half with neither team giving their opponents a chance. With much of the play in Stirling Districts defensive half Woodside were unable to find that elusive first goal, as their opponents scrambled and cleared repeatedly. After one missed opportunity for Woodside, they quickly found themselves on the defence, when a well crossed ball was unable to find a waiting Districts player, Woodside’s defence and keeper scrambled to clear just in time. As the half was drawing to an end Woodside finally had its opportunity with a well waited ball beating an offside trap. Woodside’s striker was one on one with the keeper and taking his time slotted it home for a half time lead. Woodside 1 Stirling Districts Blue 0
The second half again started with Woodside in their attacking third applying pressure to their opponents who continued to defend well. Woodside though were starting to make the ball do the work and find the space and make more opportunities. Within 15 minutes Woodside had added two more to their score through great teamwork. Stirling Districts were not going to give up but again Woodside's defence stood strong, stopping their attacks and remaining calm under pressure. With less than 5 minutes to go, Woodside scored its fourth and just before the final whistle scored its fifth and final through good passages of play and teamwork.
