Match report

Hahndorf Under 13’s travelled down the hill, taking on Blackwood at Springbank Secondary College.  With both sides wearing black and white stripes, Hahndorf donned orange vests to eliminate any confusion.

The home side got the game underway with a centre kick, and it was clear from the beginning this would be a tightly contested match.  Blackwood fought to maintain control of the ball early on but were under pressure from the Hahndorf midfield of Flynn Menzies, Rigby Barnes, Eli Parkyn and Louis Moran.  Hahndorf were able to push into their forward half, but Blackwood was quick to take back control with some clever footwork.  Pressure from both sides continued, until Blackwood had a long shot at their goal, with the ball hitting the crossbar and bouncing back into play.  Seizing a break in play, Hahndorf took the opportunity to rotate their bench, bringing fresh legs of Sam Griffiths and Noah Duggan onto the pitch.  Despite this, Blackwood had significant pace, and at the 15-minute mark they found the back of the net to secure the first goal of the match.  Hahndorf regrouped, and after a strong throw-in from Harry Wood, Griffiths was able to set up a perfect shot for Cohen Whinfield who kicked it in to record Hahndorf’s first goal.

Entering the second half at 1-all, the pressure was on both sides to get another score on the board.  Hahndorf defence of Caleb Earley, Jack Gaskin and Oliver Ramsey were kept busy, showing immense skill to defect multiple attempts at goal by the opposition.  Ever reliable Hahndorf goalie Jackson Bidgood was under pressure, making multiple saves.  Having made a long kick out of the goal, Barnes made a perfect header to Parkyn to set up play, but Blackwood was proving too good and soon took back control. Hahndorf’s forwards and midfield kept the pressure on, with Tom Gould showing great skill with multiple shots at goal, but unlucky to get it past the blackwood defence. Parkyn soon had control of the ball, kicking a direct kick over opposition players to find the corner on the net signalling Hahndorf’s second goal.  However, Blackwood soon responded with a goal of their own, leveling the match.  Despite the genuine efforts of both teams, the final score ended at 2 all.

A well-played and coached game with a great show of effort by both teams.
