Round 11                                 Mount Barker Gold verse Woodside

It was Mount Barkers home game, but it was being played at Woodside (I’m as confused as you don’t worry)

The sun was out with a balmy 17 degrees forecast, which made for a nice welcome back after the brake over the holidays. Being the last weekend of the holidays some kids were still away on family holidays, so for the first time this season we were needing help from the u8 side.

We placed 8 on the pitch with no subs available and Mount Barker had one in the bank for the tiered legs.  It was going to be a hard fort game it felt with some holiday rust to shake out.

First half was a battle one end to the other constant pressure being applied by the MB team and every time Woodside managed to get possession in the contested ball, we would boot it forward, but no one was there to pass it too so back it would come. Goalie did well to save at least 3 attempts on goal and keep the scores level at half time 0/0 .

Second half a couple of changes of position and some players listening well to their coach and holding position. It came down to an indirect kick out of the box and bang we were 1 up early in the second half, then Woodside got that rush of adrenalin and lifted to a new gear of soccer playing harder and faster. The u8s were turning out to be great little players and really not looking out of place in our team. Forward pressure was firmly in the Barkers nest and that is the way Woodside liked it .

Some great passes were happening and making it very hard for barker to get a clear run, bang Woodside scored again we were now 2 up and looking proud of what we had accomplished.

The game pressed on and minutes fell away with about a minute left in the game barker struck back and it now only had a goal in it. Everyone’s nerves were on there sleeves .

Finally the whistle and Woodside finished victors. 2/1
